Guest motlyman
Last post on 09th! has no one been out fishing since then? I have been looking at the BOM site and swell is around 1.5 to 1.7, this week, is this why? My boat is off water for 3 months as we dont use it much here in SA in the winter so insurance is heaps cheaper. Not long to go now till sept 01st.:spinny: Colin
Bobj
Had a session on the local dam as the tides were all wrong. The water was freezing, well 20 deg C at the ramp and up to 24 C in the shallows. No barra, but saw 11 barra and 3 of them must have been well over 1 metre. Bow-waves all over the place as the barra were spooked in the shallows. It looks like it's going to be a good time in summer when the water warms up. Cheers, Bobj.
Guest Working to fish
Had the day off work friday and went out ,not much was going on ,the swell was not as big as reported ,we were fishing a out going tide ,got in before sun set and we got a few little ones ,as soon as the sun went down it was as black as the ace of spades with no moon ,not much fun . eddie

Guest motlyman
How far do you guys go out to sea? Here in SA we are in the Gulf of St Vincent. Its a bit calmer than offshore and about 85ks across to the other side. Middle is about 120ft deep but can get rough sometimes and quick. But thats where the big Snapper hang out:sad: We have plenty of reefs here so we dont tend to go out much further than 2ks. I guess there are plenty of reef systems where you are? Do you get many calm days throughout the year? ie 0.5m I have seen the Barra fishing on tv, looks awesome. I would love to cruise in those waters for a big Barra.:swoon: Colin

When it warms up, the barra will be on. Those SA snapper are excellent fish, some good ones from off Tumby Bay. Heard of big kingfish from the Whyalla power station cooling area. Only need to go 5 km off shore (7 islands to fish around) Cheers, Bobj

Guest Pete and Lou
Here is a question: When fishing with 2 rods I hook a small sweetlip & while unhooking it my other rod (that I lovingly rigged, baited, casted, set the bait runner & put in my rod holder & on my boat) suddenly gets a huge bite. As my hands are full I asked my good fishing friend to grab it, which he does & reels in the snapper as I finish unhooking the sweetlip. I grab the landing net, net the snapper, take out the hook & then throw it in my esky to the horror of my mate. Who's fish is it?????? Is there an etticate????? Comments please!!!!!!
