ACS Skills Assessment Help

Hi Folks,

I have had skills assessment back for a fe wmonths and have lodged a Family Sponsored 176 at end of April.

When the ACS assessment came back i was happy with the out come, but i have since after lodging visa app been doubting what it actually says.

Can someone help clear this up.

ACS skill assessment states.

For the purpose of your application you have as of Feb 08 satisfied requirements of the ACS PIM2, Group A.

it then goes on to say,

Your skills have been assessed to be suitable for migration under 2231-79 of the ASCO code, being the skilled occupation indicated the you intend to nominate in a General Skilled Migraion application.

The assessment is based upon the documents provided. By issuing this letter or otherwise. ACS makes no representation about :

- the authenticity of the documents provided or the veracity of content.

- the suitability of the applicant for migration or employment, each of which is dependant upon additional factors.

Its this second part that is worrying me. Can someone clear up if this is ok? and does mean actually i have a good skills assessment?

Cheers,

Cheel

Hi Cheel

How long did it take to come back from the ACS, as i have finished all my write ups etc and am just waiting for my company to write a ref, which of course will be the hardest thing. What category did you apply for ?

Cheers

i think i was bout 6 weeks. it was a few months ago now.

i cant actually remmeber what i put down on the visa form i think it may have been NEC.

My degrees in Software engineering but job is more a general IT.

From MODL list this is waht worried me as well about skills assessment -

* Important: If you nominate one of the above specialist computing occupations, you will only be awarded MODL points if your skills assessment from the relevant Australian assessing body – the Australian Computer Society (ACS) states you have met the criteria to be recognised in one of the above specialisations. Skills assessments provided to successful applicants will state:

  • the ASCO Code for Computer Professional not elsewhere classified (nec) with the specialisation stated in brackets - for example, 2231-79 (SAP) and
  • the statement: 'Based on the provided certified documentation, it is my opinion that the applicant has 12 months experience in (name of specialisation, for example, SAP)'.

Note: If you have a skills assessment which only states the ASCO Code for 'Computer Professional nec 2231-79', you are not eligible to be awarded MODL points. A new assessment with the above information will be required if you wish to claim MODL points.

What you guys think?

We are just at the begining of applying for my skills to be assessed with the ACS, do you really have to go into so much detail on your Employer References i.e. Computer Languages used, any projects involved in, hardware/software used....I have a HND in computing, but most of my skills in IT has been over the last 7 years, obtaining MCSE, MCSA, CCNA etc....also, do I have to go back 6 years of employment?....I'm really struggling with this, some of the companies I worked for are no longer there/people left the company etc etc.....

I need advice as to what you guys did to get successful replies.

Cheers

Hi

All i know is it appeared to be a mine field. I took advice from other members and contacted a guy called Peter Chiam who specialises in IT people and the ACS forms. I have never done so much writing. I have over 20 years IT experiance and have had to document it all. You really need to think about which MODL section you are going to apply for. I searched all over the web and theres not much help. There is another site called RPLHelp (search it in google) and he has examples of all the write ups you need to do for different MODL sectors. Your case maybe different as i am going off my experience rather than MCSE results. If you need any further info let me know. Which part of Oz are you going to and whats the field that you want to get into ?

I got mine recently. Here's what I did -

Get in touch with my university to get the marks from each module of my Comp Sci degree on official paper with the official stamp.

Wrote a full CV *and* a four page report on my career to date.

Get a full reference from my current employer (3.5 years) including projects, platforms, languages, technologies, etc

Get a partial reference from my last employer stating only dates and job title (they couldn't do more because nobody I worked with was left there)

Get a partial reference from the employer before that, stating only dates and job title (they wouldn't do more due to company policy)

Get personal reference from two of my managers from that job.

Dig out an old payslip and a couple of P60s from that job

Make a statutory declaration in front of a lawyer that the stuff I put in the career report for this job was true (basically wrote it out agian with the required legalese around it)

Get copies of all the above (where multiple originals were not available), and copies of my degree certificate and passport, certified by a solicitor.

And then they came back to me because the reference for my current job wasn't dated...

I don't know if you absolutely need to be that thorough, but I was and it worked. It took a LONG time (several months) to gather all those things.

Good luck!

Have a word with Peter Chiam as he specialises in ACS assessments and IT. We couldn't have done it without him.

Thanks very much for your replies to my questions, one thing I would like to check:

If I have a HND in Computing (Diploma) do I need to apply for RPL or just CBOK with ACS?

I checked with Steve on RPL Help and he said I should check this with a Migration Expert - but just checking if anyone out there know's.

Thanks again

Dean
