DID YOUR GP CHARGE YOU FOR RECORDS FOR MEDICAL ASSESMENT?

When we were sent the info for our medicals we were asked to get certain medical information from our GP . We paid around £600 for our med examination, and then our GP charged me £200 for the information that we needed to take with us. Is this right? Should my GP have charged us that much for our own records?

GPs generally charge what they like for letters and collection of information. Mine wanted to charge £25 for signing a form and if I needed a letter for a possible whiplash claim it would have been at least £90. It's daylight robbery - as you say the information is about you and technically you own it.

Under the Data Protection Act, there is a maximum anyone can pay to obtain information held about themselves. It depends on what sort of information held but the upper limits are still very low compare to what you have been charged! You have to make a Subject Access Request.. Just Google Data Protection Act and see which bit applies to your particular circumstances. Personally, I would ask the G.P. for a refund and quote the DPA!

I have contacted my GP to get my medical records ready, they want £200 for myself, hubby and 2 young children.....

I too think it is a lot of money for our own records........

If anyone else has been charged, let us know and we can compare the price

cheeky

200 Quid equates to 50 quid each and that, I think, is the maximum they can charge under the DPA. It is outrageous. Interestingly, I did get our dental records which were handed over free of charge but I didn't bother with medical records as our G.P. said it probably isn't worth it. In hindsight, whis was good advice for us but others may have complicated histories that need to be accurately detailed..

Hiya im intrigued to know what info your all paying for? i got my lateset smear results from my GP who didnt charge and even though i have medical history i didnt need anything from GP ,i got a letter off the specialist (again free of charge) outlining my condition ,medication and any tests ive had. When we left for Oz i was told you dont need to bring any records other than kids red books and a prescription (to proove the pills are mine)and the dentist gave me his e-mail as he said everything is done on line but any new dentist should give you the once over ,was i just lucky as some of you seem to have paid extortinate fees?

Cal x
