Will I be rejected for a work visa because I have a physical disability?

PLEASE HELP. I would appreciate any advice!

I am a junior doctor looking to go to Aus later this year on a work visa. This would typically be no issue I think it is usually the temporary skills shortage visa 482 we get? (although I could be wrong).

The problem is I have Primary Lymphandema which is a physical disability causing swelling of the arms and legs. This wasn't a result of cancer and I don't have any other health conditions. It is well controlled at the moment I don't have much medical input I just wear compression stockings daily which the NHS currently provides and I have a 2x yearly review with a specialist nurse who checks the stockings fit well. I don't know the actual cost of this service but I imagine it would be a couple thousand pounds a year for stockings and review.

On researching visas I am now really worried I wont be able to get a work visa due to physical disability as it seems Aus is quite strict on this? I currently also claim PIP around £100/month it is the lowest amount you can qualify for.

My questions are:

1. How likely is it that I will get a visa? From my research it seems the issue is mainly when applying for permanent residence which I am not interested in, am I right?

2. What are my options to improve my chances? Should I stop claiming PIP (I don't really need the money and I would be so upset if this was the reason I didn't get a visa)

3. I know there is options for health waivers for some visas, I wonder if I need this or weather my disability wouldn't be seen as this severe?

I would be really grateful for any advice/support from anyone who has been through similar.

If you are coming to Australia on a 482, that is an employer-sponsored visa.  The employer will hire a migration agent to deal with their side of the process, and the agent will be able to advise if your condition is an obstacle.  So I'd be honest with the employer and see what they say.

The only time disability is an obstacle is when it's likely to cost the Australian taxpayer a lot of money .  If you're on a temporary visa then that isn't likely to be a concern.

Hi Anna

I am guessing you are seeking an opinion prior to progressing further down the 'migration pathway" and before you engage with potential employers?

What you need to focus on is the significant costs threshold which stands at $51k over 10 years.

Personally, I would suggest you seek some advice from an experienced RMA who will be able to guide you.
