Hi folks,

Im currently researching areas to live in Victoria, whilst we will need to live reasonable communting distance to the CBD, Im curious to know where others live and why.

So can you tell me:

1) Where you live in Vic.

2) Why you like it so much

3) What you don't like so much

Also for those who are not aready in Vic, can you tell what areas you are researching???

As for me, at the moment we have no idea.

Thanks, Mandisfam

I am in Eldorado NE Victoria. We are about 3 hours from Melbourne and on the NSW border with all of its ski fields and wineries. Hubby, myself and 4 kids came here because of work and have settled very well over the past 2 1/2 years.

Positive points :

Country Victoria has a lot of facilities and towns that are well serviced and not what people expect from a 'country' location.

Plenty of work.

Great education in small schools cheaper than in the cities.

Cheaper housing.

Good links to Melbourne, Albury/Wodonga, Canberra and Sydney.

Excellent wineries and fantastic countryside.

Very little traffic.

Great community spirit with noone caring in the slightest that you aren't born and bred here.

Bad points:

About 3 hours drive to the sea (no traffic though).

You have to go into the city at times for specialist items.

There can be a narrow world view in some places (you have to just seek out the places where this isn't a problem).

Some professions may struggle at the top end of the career ladder.

Housing can be similar in price to the cities in places.

I don't come on here very often but am more than happy to give info to anyone that is looking at moving up in this direction.

Nicky

hi we are heading for Doncaster in Melbourne, because thats where my other half's work is Audi DONCASTER, HIS APPRENTISE WENT 18MHS AGO, so for time being we will stay there, looked at Templestowe, Geelong and not quite sure the distance for traveling to work , would of ideally liked the coast but the work is more important till we get sorted, any suggestions would be helpfull, we presantly live in the HIGH PEAK a small spa town and everyone knows who you are, kind of looking for the quite life but no too remote, we got two children age 12 and nearly 6.

Hi!

We're in Williamstown which is about 20 mins by train from CBD, about the same by car depending on traffic. It has a lovely beach, lovely parks for the kids, great school etc. Can't really think of any bad points but we've only been here a couple of months and we are absolutely loving it. It is known for being expensive but I think the rentals aren't too bad and we'll just have to see what house prices do in the near future.

Hi, anyone living in Werribee?

We are hopefully coming over sometime soon (b4 October).

And were wondering what Werribee has to offer a young couple and our daughter who will be 8 years old?.

A list of Good schools would be useful, distance to beaches, shopping centres, that kind of thing.

Also if there are any children living in this area who may be interested in getting to know our little girl, that would be really great as she woud love to make friends.

She likes animals, skating, cinema, the usual kind of things.

Hi we found the following web site useful for distances between places

Map Of Australia

at the side you just need to click the distance calculator button

Hope this helps you out.:spinny:

Hi I've posted a link of what i think is a fantastic school its not for free and will cost BUT it wont cost the earth. Kids can start from prep to yr 12 so the friends they make they can stay with.

http://www.westbournegrammar.com/

you have a beach at werribee south its not the best beach in the world but it does have sand!!! Altona has a great family beach real gentle slope so the kids can have a good play, 15 to 25 minutes away, Geelong 40 minutes or St Kilda 40 minutes in the other direction.

Werribee would be the largest suburb in the area so it has the most things in and around the area to do shopping wise. It's a 30 minute ride into the CBD if you want the cinema's (werribee has there own) but its always a better day out to catch the train have lunch watch a movie then go home.

Werribee is not the best place to live as its a suburb with NO WOW FACTOR it has normal working class people doing normal working class things, you may drive past it and keep driving but stop and think, you can live in better places but will you have the money to be able to afford to go out? at least in Werribee you can have a nice house and still afford to do things.

Join some clubs for your daughter, girl guides, netball etc and you'll make loads of friends for her and you, then it wont be long before your having that great Aussie BBQ with mates! also make sure you book her in for swimming lessons 95% of kids in Australia swim well.

All the best

Geoffrey
