But you would be declaring that your child needs 1:1 support in class. They may require you to get a whole battery of psycho-educational assessments to show what level of disability she has.

@Vama from our experience having supporting documents from school that your child can/does  maintain an unsupported mainstream placement seems to be the crucial document (assuming there’s no health or other issues). We didn’t have a health waver option on our visa. but we feel confident enough that because he was in transition to mainstream and had no health issues that we were in a position that we felt we should at least try.

Despite that there was always a plan for mainstream school for our son, we went in knowing there was still the chance of being knocked back because he is autistic (from everything I had read etc). We understood the reasons why immigration are so tight on restrictions (not to say we thought they were fair),  so we just got on with it and did everything we were asked. Being honest and organised was the way we chose to do it.

Hi Vama

I have removed your personal contact details, to be honest its not Quoll you want to be messaging you anyway, she isn't an agent and that is who should seek further advice from.

Good Luck with everything

I've read this thread with interest. I wonder if the stance has softened at all. We are receiving an increase in overseas diagnosis of autism and the students are receiving disability funding. So they're receiving funding, including accessing a specialist autism program and have a visa. I also know a couple of students in Ed Support with an overseas diagnosis. They've proudly told me they are from England!

But what visa are they on? Is it PR or something temporary like a 482?

Hi,

I have recently got an invitation for 190 and when we went for assessment, they have asked for further medical assessment for my 3 years old daughter.

my daughter was born in Australia and due to covid she had very limited social interaction and more screen time. She doesn’t respond to her name and she didn’t speak any word until the day for medical. When they asked for further assessment, we got worried as earlier we thought it’s just speech. After searching over the internet I realised that this could be a reason for visa refusal.

We met with some doctors and started to work on her. In 2 months of time she started to respond to her name 7/10 times. Started to follow short commands like sit, come, eat, jump and punch etc. She has very good eye contact. She speaks 5-6 rhymes now. Started to say I want. She is very playful now as the screen time went to almost zero a day. These are the things which she was not doing 2 months ago at the time of medical.

she is progressing everyday. We had an assessment from our home country and child psychologist said that it is a speech delay and she is having behavioural issues.

In further assessment, they have asked for her history, diagnosis, management plan and social services if required. They have also mentioned that they need a thorough assessment about ASD if applicable and its severity.
We need to go for further assessment. Any help will be appreciated as what we should expect in the assessment, what can be provided to them.

Hi, glad to say we got our grant. 🙂

Hi Daisyflowers,

Congratulations

Thanks for sharing.

Just wondering the level of Autism your child was diagnosed so that people may have more idea, what they need to do.

Thanks

Hello Daisy. I got inspired and had my hopes back because of your post. I am living alone here in Australia and I'm planning to have my skills assessed soon, and hopefully bring my son with me but got discouraged by some post that I have read. Is it possible for me to get your agent details? Thank you so much.

Hi, I know I'm jumping on an older thread here, but I'm wondering how the topic of an EHCP gets brought up?

My child was on an EHCP and after a review it's been decided he will no longer need the additional support, and SENco are going to provide the documents to support this.

I'm just wondering, I guess, what the layout of the child's medical is? I assumed you just fill in a form and do any physical t3sts (I.e. urine samples) and that's it. So how are the drs aware of the existence on a EHCP? Do you just mention it? Sorry, long pist, hope someone can help!

You fill in a form before the medical and it asks you about all medical issues, including medical, learning issues etc.
