At that time my husbands son was on our visa but never spent the year in the country to gain his permanent residencey. Fast forward 9 years and we have citizenship . My 20 years old stepson now wants to emigrate to Australia permanently to be with us . does anyone know the easiest and most cost effective way to do this . His situation at the moment is that he moved out of his family home 3 years ago and has been living independently . VERYSTORMY Posted December 28, 2019 Share Posted December 28, 2019 He "might" have a shot at obtaining a resident return visa (RRV) based on close ties, but it won't be a gaurunteed outcome as the department has some discretion on this and in the last year or two have been more strict. If it is over 5 years since he set foot in Australia it gets more difficult, but if he has visited in the last 5 years then close ties is all he needs.
