Kay davies
I have recently found out my biological father was an Australian citizen. I was adopted at birth and he had no idea of my existence. He is now deceased. I have found my half brothers and have had a Dna which supports half sibling status. I have applied for my fathers birth certificate. However his name is not on my birth certificate only the adoption paperwork and I have a different name. Are the authorities going to be difficult about this and do you think it wise to employ a migration agent or could I manage this myself? ali
I would certainly run it by a registered agent initially as it sounds a little more complex - you may not need them for the whole process, but some advise at the start would be worth it to ensure you're aware of everything that's needed. Marisawright
Apart from the DNA evidence, what other evidence do you have that he was your father? If someone told you, then you should get that person to write a statutory declaration (i.e. a sworn statement). Also gather any other evidence you may have. I’d speak to an agent, certainly doesn’t sound straightforward to me.
ali
Just a thought - was your biological father an Australian citizen at the time of your birth?
Kay davies
Yes he was an Australian citizen at time of my birth. His name is on my adoption paperwork. The small amount of detail I have matches totally with what my half brothers and their mum have told me. Dna is supportive of half siblings. Currently in the process of applying for birth certificate.
wrussell
Adoption severs parental relationships. Consult a solicitor .
