I celebrated my application anniversary on 4 Dec
@Test of Patience may I ask your occupation, number of people on your application and if you are HR or LR? (High Risk or Low Risk country) - just to compete the spreadsheet.

Did you go with a MA? What kind of company do you work for?

I mean, I can understand that some files take longer because of some checks they need to do but I do not get that the nomination would take a year to be reviewed.

Has anybody read these articles: https://www.acacia-au.com/changes-to-Skilled-Occupations-List-Flagged.php & http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-11-20/government-cutting-457-job-list-for-skilled-migrants/8040548

I wonder if that explains why some nominations take so much time to be approved...

[h=2]Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List[/h]The ABC and SBS have reported on removal of occupations from the CSOL. [h=3]What do we Know So Far?[/h]The articles include comments from the Minister for Immigration, Peter Dutton. These comments relate specifically to 457 visa applications, and are as follows:

  • The Government is considering cutting the list for 457 visas
  • This is as a result of pressure from the opposition Labour party calling for restrictions on the 457 program
  • Work is underway to "condense" the list already, and the Government will look at this very soon

The occupations mentioned as the most frequently used for the 457 program are Cooks, Cafe or Restaurant Managers, Marketing Specialists, Chefs and Developer Programmers. At this stage, it is not clear which occupations may be removed.[h=3]What would be the Impact of the Change?[/h]The above comments suggest the 457 list could be reduced in the near future. Unlike the SOL, changes to the CSOL can come into effect any time during the year.As the 457 list is the same for the Employer Nomination Scheme Subclass 186 Visa and Occupational Trainee Stream of the Training Subclass 407 visa, if the 457 list were reduced, this may also affect these types of visas.

For 457 visas, the requirement that the occupation be on the approved list is a "time of decision" requirement. In other words, even if you have lodged your application prior to the change, you could be caught out if the occupations list changes before a decision is made on your application.

For ENS visas, the effect will depend on which stream you apply for. If you have worked for your sponsor on a 457 visa for 2 years and are applying for the Temporary Residence Transition Stream, the impact should be minimal.

If you apply for the Direct Entry Stream, this would require a skills assessment in a CSOL occupation and 3 years of work experience in your occupation. If your occupation is removed before your nomination is approved, you could have difficulty meeting the requirements for the Direct Entry Stream.

[h=3]What can I Do to Minimise the Impact?[/h]If you are considering applying for a 457 visa, you should apply as soon as possible to avoid being affected by the changes. If you are considering the Direct Entry Stream of the ENS visa, you should also look at applying soon to avoid disappointment.

If you are on a 457 visa already and looking at the Temporary Residence Transition Stream, you should not be affected by any changes to the CSOL.

Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List

it says it is likely from 1 july 2017, its possible having impact on cases lodged from last year?

Well it says: Unlike the SOL, changes to the CSOL can come into effect any time during the year

It makes me a little nervous :-)

My application is on the CSOL (marketing specialist), I applied as Direct Entry (I changed employer) and I am going to a bridging visa mid-january so I hope they will not remove marketing specialist from the list before my nomination gets approved or are not delaying these occupations reviews.

Did anyone go in to the spread sheet and hide heaps of rows? Affecting April and May. Someone had change my details from LR to HR the other day as well... Does anyone "own" it and can un-hide the rows again? Or is it just my computer playing up? :(

Hi @jess6, when did you lodge again? Just read your links and am flabbergasted that they would consider removing those from CSOL! It's the only list we're even on! Do they even realise how hard it is to go through 186 or to be sponsored by an employer in occupations not necessarily unpopular with locals? In our experience, they wouldn't do it unless they really need someone's specific skill set!

I would have thought that logically, if they notice that certain occupations are being used predominantly for ENS, this should instead flag that the occupations NEED to be on the SOL (VS CSOL) since they are in fact in demand! So disappointed, Australia. If the application volume is so high, that means you should hire additional staff and at the very least, at least inform everyone what the reasonable and realistic timeframes are...and share what your basis for prioritising applications are!

It's heartbreaking how the initially advised 4-6 months processing time has now blown up to 8+ months, with advice that hey, might even hit 9-10 months or so...no apologies, no certainties. It doesn't matter that application is complete and genuine. Maybe it all boils down to TRN vs DE and based on occupation priorities - which is really not supposed to be how this visa works.

I rang immi over a week ago and spoke to someone more generous in sharing info - as of that date (over 8 months now!), we STILL had not been allocated a CO and in fact, IMMI said that they were still in March for TRN, and Feb for DE applications. No explanation on why the timelines are different. I was also advised that it might be best to accept that chances are, we'll have to wait until January or even February.

Hey Mate,

Looks like in 2016 PR applications has too much for immi officers compare to 2015.

Because in 2015 I've lodged my application in June and got my PR on Oct (withing 4 months). same thing for my colleagues they got PR within 4 months.

However in 2016 2 more colleagues applied in March'16 they are still waiting for PR (we all are in same position and similar packages) that means immi offices are overloaded in 2016.

I really Hope you will get ur PR before end of 2016.
