emmajane051
I'm so confused has the English test been scrapped? What does this mean xx reading this I think they scrapped the English test? http://www.tradesrecognitionaustralia.gov.au/News/Pages/IELTS-Removal.aspx
CaptainC
Visa applicants will still need to be either a citizen of UK, Ireland, NZ, Canada or USA to satisfy the English language requirement, or have completed an approved test, such as IELTS or PTE. The English language testing requirement has been removed for Provisional Skills Assessments issued by TRA only, it has nothing to do with the visa application requirements. SteveandKirsty
The basic answer is yes, it has, for the Passport holders of said countries. But, some professions still do state an English test plus (and more significantly) taking and passing one does give extra points towards the all important score of 60. So, worth doing. emmajane051
Thankyou I was so confused! So if we need extra points we can still sit the IELTS if needed that's good. thanks emma
movingback
The majority of applicants will need to do the test to get the points required, at least for a skilled independent visa. I don't know of anyone who didn't have to take it to get over 60 pts.
Makybe Diva
In my opinion the English test is a huge advantage to native speakers as with a bit of preparation it can mean a fairly easy 20 points. Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk

movingback
https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/189- I suppose if you are still young (early 30s ish) and have 8+ years of experience in your field - and a degree - then you could do it without the test. I think its tricky to get there for most people without the English test points however.
Nemesis
Is this new thing then? As we didn't and neither did anyone else I know. Our visa was applied for in 2009 though. The whole points system has changed since then, got altered when they brought in Skill Select
