Johndoe
Well, I didn't encounter one single mozzie,Tic, or leech, having soaked my clothes in permethrin as used by the ADF and as per the treatment of mosquito nets by the WHO. Permethrin treated clothes are (expensively) sold nowadays as is the DIY treatment, but at $30 for a one off soak it becomes a bit expensive, despite the sales blurb saying that it's effective for up to 20 machine washes. I have found a way of treating that for $25 gives you 10 times more treatment than the branded Permethrin soak. If anyone is interested, shout out and I'll post it here. Now some pics with more to follow later...........first, some of the flora Lamington National Park (11) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Lamington National Park (15) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Lamington National Park (14) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Tree Fern Lamington National Park by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Birds Nest Fern Lamington State Forest by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Moss Lamington National Park by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Birds Nest Fern with spores Lamington State Forest by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr
Alaska
Great photos. We have been camping there a couple times. Got put off though as my daughter got 2 ticks last time and my husband a paralysis tick in his hair that we didn't find until his head went numb! I will google the treatments you talk about. Johndoe
Hmmm...Volunteers had to help a bloke in the Lamington NP... Just wondered... Cheers, Bobj. Not me Bob. Was that Saturday. It was wild Friday evening and throughout Saturday. The cloud base had lowered and temps dropped about 10d. I crept up on this little chap Pademelon Lamington National Park (2) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr And then his hearing is so acute, he even heard the shutter click and looked straight at me Pademelon Lamington National Park by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr This shot shows this cameras amazing ability to shoot through the cr@p and focus on the subject Pademelon Lamington National Park (3) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr

Johndoe
You'll know the damage these three could do if I got too close. Not like those partially tame ones at Noosa car park ;-) I nearly trod on one of these! Superb camouflage ! Get a look at those claws!! Johndoe
Hi Johndoe, They are really great pictures that you have taken. If you don't mind me asking, what camera do you have? Thanks. If you click on any of my pictures it will show the full res image at flickr and below the image, the camera and lens used for that particular picture. It will also give all the settings used such as shutter speed, aperture and iso. Briefly, it's the Canon 7D mk2 and most shots, although not all, are taken with the 100-400 mk2. I sold all my other gear to finance this rig as it's absolutely superb for wildlife and sport due to it's amazing focus settings and the fact that it can shoot 10 frames per second. You can see how the focus settled on the pademelon's eyes in the image above, despite the obstructions from foliage and also in the images below. The photographer of course picks the point of focus (always the eyes) but with small creatures that point of focus (the square in the middle of of the viewfinder) is bigger than the creature you're aiming at when it's at a distance, so most cameras without the ability of the 7D mk2, would err towards the nearest point of focus that the focus square intrudes on, such as obstructing foliage. Even with large animals that square can intrude onto the creatures nose or ears and focus there, but the Mk2 seems to have an uncanny ability to know that it's the eyes that you're aiming at. It doesn't always get it right, but my success rate is much higher than with the 7DMk1 or the 5D3 (which is almost twice the price) that I sold to finance this rig. Likewise, the Mk2 lens is never likely to be improved on IMHO. Most zoom lenses are soft at the wide end and the long end and have a "sweet (sharp) spot" somewhere in between and the same can be said for the aperture setting. This lens is sharp at both ends and wide open which is useful when you are shooting in poor light such as the riainforest and need to open your aperture fully to keep iso and therefore noise to a minimum. Can you tell that I'm enthused with this rig? :-) Eastern Robin (2) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Eastern Robin (3) by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr Eastern Robin by Kevin Dickinson, on Flickr
