spangley
Hi All, Although Melbourne has been on my family's target list (we have 189 visas) I'm currently courting an opportunity in Newcastle. So does anyone care to share a warts and all of Sydney's little sister? Thanks all
Bungo
Lovely place. I would have been delighted to live there if we had the work opportunities that way.
Guest
Been a few times. Decent beaches, town centre could do with a facelift. Has its fair share of bogans but overall probably a decent place to live factoring in surrounding areas and house prices
Paul1Perth
I think I'd prefer living there to Melbourne. Travel up the Coast to Nelson Bay and it's beautiful round there. Newcastle has some decent beaches itself, lot nicer than Melbournes. Weather would better there too.
Marisawright
Hi All, Although Melbourne has been on my family's target list (we have 189 visas) I'm currently courting an opportunity in Newcastle. So does anyone care to share a warts and all of Sydney's little sister? The city centre can be pretty rough at night and has a bad reputation, but then why would you need to go there? The beaches are great, you're on the doorstep of the Hunter Valley wineries and the dolphins of Port Stephens, two hours from Sydney on the train if you fancy a visit to the big smoke, reasonable house prices. The big problem with Newcastle is often getting a job, so if you can solve that problem you'd be mad not to give it a shot IMO.
JockinTas
If you can get a job there - go for it. I like Newcastle.
scuffythetugboat
10% unemployment in the Hunter Valley. It's called the Valley of death now.
