I can't quite remember what we did, but we stayed in Traders hotel which was very central and had amazing views as well as a great rooftop pool bar area.

We stayed at the Quality Hotel,in the city centre which was really nice.We only had a short stay but we visited some Buddhist temples, walked around the city (market is good)went to the twin towers, and had dinner at a restaurant which was next to a lake.Very unusual too I might add. You got in a queue, and on tables were all sorts of raw foods from prawns, veg and noodles. Then once you got what you wanted, the waiting staff then set up a mini stove on your table and cooked it in front of you. Very nice it was too.Unfortunately I cant recall the name of it.Heres the hotel anyway we stayed at,

We stayed in the Traders Hotel with a room facing Petronas Towers, which was expensive, but amazing (particularly as we were there at NYE). we did a couple of walks from the guidebook, little India, went into the central market. There's also an arts centre/complex not too far from the Traders Hotel and also the Batu Caves further out. Trip Advisor has a pretty good list as well http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g298570-Activities-Kuala_Lumpur_Wilayah_Persekutuan.html#TtD

KL depends on what your interests are. There is great shopping if that is your thing with all the brands far cheaper than Australia and I imagine UK. It is quite a stylish type place at least in the centre so lots to see and do just walking around stopping of at will and not forgetting the wonderful food and choice, be that Chinese, Indian or Malay, the three cultures that make up the nation. Food and eating are major pastimes so enjoy. Don't forget the Roti Canai for breakfast.

KL was home to two of the worlds tallest buildings until a decade ago. A very much get up and go city. Some great buildings to admire of colonial times. If a day to spare a trip to Malacca is worth while to get out of the city and see a little countryside and a fine old city of historical importance.

In KL there is the Butterfly place, Malaysia is a place of world importance in the variety of butterflies on offer. There are the Batu Caves outside of town. Stroll around China Town. Sit with a large bottle of Anchor or Tiger Beer on a balmy tropical night and watch the world go by. Malaysians are very friendly. Speak good to perfect English and usually ready to engage with strangers.

Just get out of the hotel, unlike some, and explore ..

A hotel which might suit you given the size of your party is the Prince...they have apartments.

It's just out the rear entrance of the Pavilion shopping mall which is the main event on Bukit Bintang I suppose. From the Prince there is also now a covered, air conditioned walkway all the way to KLCC...about 10 mins walk, so the location is very good.

The buffet breakfast in the hotel was I think the best I've ever seen.

We used a hop-on hop-off double decker bus to get around, was pretty cheap. Spent ages in a shopping mall near our hotel (the Swiss Garden), the mall just specialised in IT, phones, cameras etc, huge and absolutely fascinating - just googling it must have been the Plaza Low Yat http://plazalowyat.com/. For the best views of the Petronas Towers and the city go up the telecom tower nearby, no queues and you go up higher than the twin towers https://www.menarakl.com.my/

Hawker street food - Malaysia has some of the most interesting cuisine in the world and eating out in Malaysia is very affordable. Depending on where you stay, you should have access to a wonderful breakfast buffet. If so, do consider trying the curries rather than the scrambled eggs.

I think if you book in advance, you can get access to the walkway between the Petronas Towers.

I would invest in a Lonely Planet KL or Malaysia - a small outlay to give you pointers on what to do and see. Once you are in Australia, it would cost you a lot to get back (even with Air Asia's affordable fares) so paying for the guidebook is a small investment to get the most out of it.

Malaysia is worth going for the food alone. The usual tourist sights and things to do will be amply described when there. KL itself only has so much for the tourist and I note in three days only you won't really have the time to go to Malacca.

I would pick a place to stay close to what interests you. I wouldn't name a place for that reason and usually stay in China Town myself. I feel LP has declined over recent years but they do have a travel book featuring KL and from memory Malacca in one.

Malaysia terms itself Asia in One. When you get there you'll see what they mean. It's probably the worlds most multi racial nation hence the great food and cultural diversity. Just don't do what a person I knew did. She went there to renew her Aussie visa. Stayed the duration of time that you'll be there. Went out the hotel on the first day and found it steaming and appeared to get scared with the number of women in head scarves on the streets and remained the rest of the time within the walls of her hotel.

We will defiantly embrace the whole experience, I always think it's worth asking anyone that's been somewhere their own opinion that way you get to have a look at places that are off the tourist map, personally I'm not into the shopping (my boys might disagree!!) so looking forward to trying the differnt food and soaking up the atmosphere
