Hi

we are a 51 year old couple currently living in Manly.

We'd love to meet some new people and hopefully make some new friends.

Seems hard to get new friends at this age!! Any like minded couples out there feeling the same??

We are young at heart 51 yr olds, enjoy going out for drinks, dinner just the usual stuff.

Pour family are grown up, so we are feeling at a bit of a loose end.

Hi gbye grey sky, when are you planning to make the final move? We are moving to Wellington point at the end of Sep with our two girls who are 11 and 6. Have you made any decisions on schools yet or is that what the reccie is all about?

Hi Wellypoint

Not moving until next year unfortunately unless ERNIE picks my numbers on my Premium Bonds ha ha. Our only daughter is 11 in January so will be a year behind your eldest. We are visiting a number of schools while there but Ormiston College is our current favourite.

We are in Manly mid to late thirties couple with a 7 year old though so that may cramp your style a little. But always happy to meet new people

Hey good bye grey sky

I always get confused with cut off dates but our daughters birthday is at the end of April so not sure if they would be in the same school year or not. Ormiston college has a good rep in the area, but to be honest the feed back I have heard about all schools in the area has been good (both private and state). The only negatives I have had revolve around Cleveland SS. Let me know how your reccie goes, I would be interested to hear your feed back from the school tours.

Hi Hoffer, we have a 6 year old too so you'll be in good company. I am 37 and the Hubbie is 41 and we love a good old get together.

Jo, if you arrange something early Oct you can count us in x

Hi Tina

We visited Sheldon last Friday withour daughter as part of our recce. She was really taken with the school and is doing a try out day there on Tuesday. We are meeting head of year at Ormiston on Wednesday (my wife and daughter went to their Open Day yesterday too). Happy to give our thoughts after Wednesday though they probably will not be so relevant to you given that your son is so much older.

Thanks, that would be superb to get your take on it! So far Ormiston have been the most pro-active when it comes to communication (although they are a ridiculous number of forms to fill

in!). Seeing Sheldon in 29/8 and Ormiston on 9/9 - going to have to look for a rental in between the two, I think!

Looking forward to to getting out there - it won't be long Wellypoint :-)

It is interesting that you are going to see Sheldon on a Friday as that was our day too and the day that they have assembly. They had another family visiting that day too. You will get to see assembly and nothing I will say will quite prepare you for this. Be prepared to be blown away by it as it is quite a show. The Headmistress, Dr Bishop, is a really strong character too. Ormiston have also been fantastic with communication and Sheldon were pretty hopeless by comparison.

Hey everyone,

We would also be really interested in hearing any views on schools. We are both in our early 40's and have a 14yr old and 5yr old. We've been living in Adelaide for nearly 3 years now but really want to make the move to Brisbane. We are looking at areas with a max of 40min train commute into the city. Would be interested in hearing about Manly, is there much for a teenager to do (shopping precincts). If we do move over it would be great to meet you all :)

We've had to change our visit now to a Thursday as hubby has an interview on the Friday now and we figured that was probably going to have to take priority that day!! I've heard about the Sheldon assemblies though! Ormiston have sent me another form to fill in - it's almost identical to the initial application form!! I may suggest they look at online forms . . . :-)

Just wanted to wish you both a good journey tomorrow. One more sleep in the UK!! We returned last night so will be interested to hear your take on the area soon.

Hi Soapyjo, we too find ourselves in much the same boat as you, and are looking at ways to expand our social circle.

Although we live in Redland Bay, we have just joined the Wynnum/Manly Bayside Socials. If you go to meetup.com you can scroll through all the different meet ups around the Brisbane area. There's also a facebook page called Poms on the Bay. There's a catch up in Cleveland on Thursday 4th September at 12.30 in the Fiction Bar overlooking the marina, which I'm going to and would be happy to meet you there if you'd like - I'll PM you my contact number.

It seems as though there are quite a few of us "mature" poms who are looking to meet up, so lets throw it out there - if you're reading this and are interested in meeting up for a drink, then suggestions for date and place gratefully accepted.

Val
