Hi Paul,

How much is a mountain bike at the lower end of the pricing scale in Perth. At moment in uk I have a Giant Rock which is about 7 year old but won't be bringing with me as won't be worth the AQIS hassle. Do you get many decent 2nd hand ones for sale.

Cheers

There are loads of good second hand buys here mate. I got a Haro mountain bike for $500. It was advertised on-line on Perth Mountain Bike club. I went to fetch it and it looked like brand knew. The guy who had bought it was FIFO and wasn't there. He had bought the bike and realised it was too big a frame for him and gone out and bought a specialised a bit smaller. His wife brought out the original papers from BikeForce, the shop he had bought it from. He had paid $750 for it used it twice.

I was in a bit of a hurry to get one too and didn't look round very much. I'm sure I could have got a better bargain if I'd had more time to wait. I'm thinking of upgrading soon as since I've been getting into it a bit more I realise that most people are moving on to the bikes with 29 inch wheels and lighter frames. I would definitely be looking at a second hand one again, some people seem to change their bikes every year to get the new design??

I went up in the hills to a place called the camel farm a few weeks ago. First time I've been and it's brilliant. Rides of different difficulty well marked out. We were just on the medium difficulty and it was pretty testing. Lots of people out riding but there are so many tracks to go at it doesn't feel busy. Definitely be going again.

It's a strange time of year in Perth. We were out at the beach on Sunday morning. We'd been for a run early and it was fairly cold when we set off, about 5 degrees. By the time we got back to the surf club the sun was out and it was 18 degrees. Went in the local coffee shop later and you see some people in ugg boots, warm coats, hats and others coming in with T shirts, shorts and no shoes.

Yesterday I had the worst journey to school I think I have had in 9 years. The rain was awful, the water wasn't draining away and I had to come off the dual carriageway and go on the side roads to school. Today it's bright blue skies, albeit a bit chilly.

Yeah I wore a fleece and beanie to take the kids to school but by the time I got back to the car I had to take the fleece off as the sun was starting to get stronger, sat here in the garden ATM with a t shirt on and it's nice at a guess 15c slight breeze BBQ weather back in blighty lol

Can't wait until Aug 7th when my bikes get here, loads of great looking tracks to try out.

Same kind of thing in Sydney. Cold in the morning but really warm in the day. I get that it is scarf and coat weather in the morning but in the middle of the day people re still wearing hats and scarves and coats. The car read 25 degrees today and I was hot wearing a light jacket. The weather has been beautiful lately. Clear blue skies every day for the last few weeks. In some ways I prefer this time of the year as it's cooler for walking and exploring and you don't get the summer crowds. I can't complain about the winter weather really (although my house is so cold and I wish we had central heating).

Cheers Paul, it will be something I'll be hoping to get into once settled.

There's every sport under the sun to have a go at mate. Do you do any road biking too? Heaps of riders and lots of clubs. A lot along the coast. Nice ride along there.

There are a lot of organised events too, triathlons, adventure racing, open water swims, mountain and road bike races and events. Here's an excellent one.

One step at a time ha.

More pleasure riding on MB and tracks but nothing too extreme but we'll see.

Gotta be honest, although the day time temp on the Sunny Coast is still lovely, the night time is freezing, can't complain though as we do have heating via the reverse aircon…but I'm dreading the bill. Having thyroid problems does mean I love the warmer weather so you never hear me moan when it goes well over 30…the frizzy hair is however another matter ! One of the benefits of living in a rental for two Ozzy winters has definitely made us realise what we need out of a home should we ever have a deposit saved up to buy or build one. Roll on spring..Im over the winter already:laugh:

A few years ago I was watching a free performance of the Australian ballet in the Botancial gardens Brisbane in winter.

at about 5.30 pm the announcer said it was 16' in the river city.

I turned to my friend, both ex UK and laughed.

we were sitting on 2 little chairs, wearing a warm jacket, gloves and a hat with a rug over our knees, it would have been a Barmy evening in UK.

Marmion was a dangerous place yesterday mate, over ten inches deep in some parts (not good on a dual carriageway that), but better today as you said.

I ended up driving through Mullaloo and Kallaroo instead as the roads weren't as treacherous. There were still idiots driving at 80km/h with no headlights on!!

Arrived in Launceston on Sat & I have to admit I underestimated how bloody cold it is. Under-insulated houses are soooo cold, ironically it is warmer outside in the sun. Merino thermals are my new BFF
