Welshsaznlevi
Help!! I first moved to aus in 2007 and was granted PR while I was there. I left in August 2011 after I discovered I was pregnant after a relationship breakdown, having no family in aus I figured it would be best to come back to the uk. I have made the decision to move back to aus as there is no work here and well tbh life is pretty grim! I am on a very tight budget with flights and an struggling to find an affordable deal for June 2014. I have had a quote from IOM which is more expensive that online prices! And we are not eligible for qantas migrant fares as out visas do not qualify I am a PR subclass 801 and my son will be a citizen with a aus passport at the time of travel, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks
jac2011
There was a post on HotUKdeals last night with some cheap Oz flights but I didn't really read it so I am not sure what they were or if they were any good. The title indicated they were from £425 which seems too good to be true, but may be worth a peep.
calNgary
We found Austravel very reasonable on price, so maybe give them a go. Try all different times of year as prices vary a heck of a lot month to month. Cal x
Welshsaznlevi
Thanks guys, the flights with uk hot deals are from Dublin and are for November I'd really like to go in just so my son has a chance to adjust to the heat. I did check aus travel out but flights are near enough £700 each....one way! Was hoping to find a airline that specialised in cheaper one way fares. Rossmoyne
One way flights UK to Oz are very expensive and so often it is better to buy a return flight. From experience I know that when we emigrated our one way fares were dearer than our return fares when we came for a reccie the previous year. vickyplum
have you looked at getting a cheap ticket from IOM to Heathrow, and then book the LHR-Oz single ticket? Starting from the IOM will probably bump up the price no end! Also, if you buy a flexible return ticket (pick a random date in the future to return), you have the option to return and if it's flexible, you can move the return date. TheEscapePlan
I booked a one way fare for late June with Trailfinders for 700. It was a Singapore airlines special offer and it included a stopover in Singapore.
Welshsaznlevi
Where are you flying from and which airport in Australia will you be landing? Hoping to fly from Manchester to cairns, mid-end June. I had a quote from IOM and they're £500 more expensive than what I've seen online only benefit would be the extra baggage allowance but that would only be to Sydney, if have to pay the extra baggage allowance to cairns. ive spent a hour this afternoon looking at prices for return fares but they're all more expensive...not by much mind! Don't understand why one way fares are only just cheaper?! Rather annoying

Don't understand why one way fares are only just cheaper?! Rather annoying I agree with you it should be around half the price of a return. It is the same with train tickets really annoying. Have done some searching (I enjoy looking at flight prices sad I know) and I have found following: Having a look. Flying Manchester - Cairns 12th June can get flight £662 pp with Singapore Airlines (but with a 14 hour stop over in Singapore and then change at Brisbane) Manchester - Sydney 15 or 16th June £565 pp with Etihad then Sydney to Cairns is £63pp Manchester - Brisbane 17th June £573pp again with Singapore Airlines (no long stop over though) and then around £49pp from Brisbane to Cairns London to Cairns 21st June with Maylasia airlines & Qantas £662pp Skyscanner website is really good for comparing On average a return is coming out as around £100-£200pp more

Welshsaznlevi
I have discovered that if you fly from Dublin there is hardly any tax, I'm saving about £300 thought I'd share in case anyone else is having the same problem
Jack91
I have found Travelbag to be the best, cheapest so far for me too. I am booking to go out there 6th of June as a little holiday (again). Ask for Hugh Stanford.
Welshsaznlevi
Thanks for that ill look into it, do you you have a email address? If you haven't booked already have a look at prices from Dublin, much cheaper, particularly on a Tuesday, I'm looking at going 17th June

idoctor
What does the airline do for you if the stopover is long e.g. 10 hours Well Singapore give you a City Tour, have access to airport cinema, shower facilities, butterfly garden, relaxing lounger chairs, free WiFi, free Child strollers. Emirates give you a hotel and free meals and free transport to and from hotel. The hotel offers free transport to local shopping centre. Quite reasonable really. We have experienced both and though Singapore airport is nice definitely preferred Emirates hotel and food. The problem with return flights is planning far in advance and having to do that every year is hard. At some point you'll need to bite the bullet and buy a one a way flight. bcworld
Emirates give you a hotel and free meals and free transport to and from hotel. The hotel offers free transport to local shopping centre. That does depend. If you intentionally book a long layover e.g. because it's cheaper, but a more expensive short transfer was available, you are technically not eligible for the stopover package. Quoll
Go for a return, they're just as cheap and you never know when you might need the return portion. If you don't need it, with many airlines you can defer for up to a year (just cite change of circumstances) and if you don't need to use it you can apply to have the tax portion of the ticket refunded. Gidza
Last night I was on the Singapore website looking for flights in 8 weeks' time. One way economy was £636 and return was £1231. The trend was the same on skyscanner and cheapflights websites. So in this case 1 way half as cheap. Could it be because August is peak summer travel time
