I left in August 2011 after I discovered I was pregnant after a relationship breakdown, having no family in aus I figured it would be best to come back to the uk. I have made the decision to move back to aus as there is no work here and well tbh life is pretty grim! I am on a very tight budget with flights and an struggling to find an affordable deal for June 2014. I have had a quote from IOM which is more expensive that online prices! And we are not eligible for qantas migrant fares as out visas do not qualify I am a PR subclass 801 and my son will be a citizen with a aus passport at the time of travel, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I did check aus travel out but flights are near enough £700 each....one way! Was hoping to find a airline that specialised in cheaper one way fares. From experience I know that when we emigrated our one way fares were dearer than our return fares when we came for a reccie the previous year. vickyplum Posted April 15, 2014 Share Posted April 15, 2014 have you looked at getting a cheap ticket from IOM to Heathrow, and then book the LHR-Oz single ticket? Starting from the IOM will probably bump up the price no end! Also, if you buy a flexible return ticket (pick a random date in the future to return), you have the option to return and if it's flexible, you can move the return date. I had a quote from IOM and they're £500 more expensive than what I've seen online only benefit would be the extra baggage allowance but that would only be to Sydney, if have to pay the extra baggage allowance to cairns. ive spent a hour this afternoon looking at prices for return fares but they're all more expensive...not by much mind! Emirates give you a hotel and free meals and free transport to and from hotel. The hotel offers free transport to local shopping centre. Quite reasonable really. We have experienced both and though Singapore airport is nice definitely preferred Emirates hotel and food. The problem with return flights is planning far in advance and having to do that every year is hard. At some point you'll need to bite the bullet and buy a one a way flight. That does depend. If you intentionally book a long layover e.g. because it's cheaper, but a more expensive short transfer was available, you are technically not eligible for the stopover package. If you don't need it, with many airlines you can defer for up to a year (just cite change of circumstances) and if you don't need to use it you can apply to have the tax portion of the ticket refunded. The trend was the same on skyscanner and cheapflights websites. So in this case 1 way half as cheap.
