Its like an episode of Top Gear on here all this argy bargy over who has the best car :biglaugh:

I think no one will ever agree on the best car I love my Picasso but I know there are those out there who laugh at me :wideeyed:

Just needed a place to give me a start. I know a lot of the 7 seaters here in the UK don't offer a lot of boot room but we dont need one of those anyway now, but we do need the boot room as well as good space in the back.

Thanks

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.... Everyone is entitled to buy any car they want to buy wether it was made in Australia, Japan or flamin outer mongolia ... this post has turned from a simple question to a slanging match and a 'mines better/bigger than yours' playground debate.

We get it .. Sheerluck likes his car and Bluezee likes his ... lets move on

ron&chel. fuuuuuuuneee! all i am saying is you come to aus. you should give aus. a go, stop knocking what aus. has on offer.i did buy australian and it is a very good car. that being said there are plenty of cars out there better than mine but the "santa fe" isn't one of them. (good for looking out of though. apparently!) the trouble is iv'e been here for 35 years not 5 days and I love autralia! I love it,s cultural mix and it's foreign inports. ps. I can live without "fish chips & mushypeas"! though.

Well I thought I would get started on looking into what we need on the otherside, hopefully we have a rental sorted so next is a car.

In this country I drive a Citreon xsara picasso and I love my little tank.

What I need is a car for 4/5 adults good boot space for cricket and football and of course trips away.

What can you recommend don't want to spend silly money, but want a decent enough car, economical etc. My dad lived in the dessert and swore by mazda's has anyone got any ideas so we can go looking when we arrive.

I have done a search on PIO, but can only find general things regarding cars, so need some suggestions on makes and models.

So what do you drive?

Thanks

Hi Kaye,

I have a Mazda 6 - brilliant car, economical/reliable/roomy/plenty of poke/looks good & great for 36_5_11.gif (road rage) :biglaugh::biglaugh:

(although maybe a little too small for 4/5 adults) guess you need a 4x4 type style - first Mazda i have ever had would def buy another Mazda again.

Hi Kaye

Are you not coming to Cairns any more then?

That's a shame.

We have a TOYOTA Hilux. It rocks. Ticks all your boxes. Best family car on the road, we can chuck the buggy, bikes, esky, camping gear, kitchen sink in the back and take off wherever. It's like driving a tank. Awesome fuel economy (diesel injection)

Everyone drives Toyotas up here, they are extremely reliable and you need that . You also need a 4x4 for the flooding (it's only the roads that flood it seems) . You also need a 4x4 as the roads sort of run out a bit north of here. It's awesome fun.

And if bluzee bitches at me I will take the high ground and completely ignore him/her.

AUSTRALIAN IMMIGRATION - TRANSPORT & TRAFFIC

back to articles

Since my Australian immigration, I have found public transport is widely available, and each bus stop is signed well with a location name. Timetables are widely available for both buses and trains.Where I live on the Sunshine Coast the public transport services are less frequent and stop around 10pm, unlike the cities of Brisbane, Sydney and the Gold Coast. In my opinion it is safe for teenagers, and I see many youths going to and from school on local transport and to meet friends at the beach at night, and going to and from their work in Australia.Parking is easy, some metered parking is in operation. But a lot is free. There are signs advertising how long you can stay in the area 2P means 2 hours, 4P four hours and 30 is 30 minutes. All this information is shown visually on the Australian Immigration DVD’s available to you, with over two hour’s real life footage of Australia. Since I completed my Australian Immigration I have been working to help people with their own Australian Immigration and gain work in Australia and then Australian Citizenship as I did, by obtaining an Australian visa using an Australian Immigration Lawyer.I am passionate about the great lifestyle Australia has to offer, and found no visual reality information was available when we were wanting to complete our Australian Immigration, so I decided to produce four DVD’s which show you for yourself the lifestyle on offer here down under.I’ve noticed there is a lot of courtesy when parking, and people will queue and wait for a ‘park’ ( as they call it). Notice no horn blowing or frustration.Driving is on the left and in km’s, the equivalent to the 30mph is 50km in built up residential areas. Usually signed, but on some roads a lane with just merg into another one and u –turns are permitted in Australia. When you arrive, having completed your Australian immigration, you will need to apply for a state driving licence within twelve months of residence, and take a multiple choice questionnaire on the Australian road rules. If you move inter-state you must re-apply for a licence, no test is required.A very helpful road map is available called a ‘Refodex’, this is available in all news agents. When calling a taxi there is the taxi rank system or call box, where you pay $1 into a specific taxi telephone box, get conected to the taxi and the dollar is refunded off your fare, there is also an Australia wide taxi service just call 131008 and you can get a taxiWe found since our Australian immigration, buying a car is simple in Australia, (and believe me, we have had three in three years.) We initially bought a small car, intended for just me and the kids, but with all our UK visitors soon realised this would be too small. We upgraded to a larger car, then fell pregnant, so now have a seven seater people carrier. My tip would be think about visitors and buy the right car from the start. There are many garages with new and second-hand vehicles, they are advertised in the local newspapers and all will arrange finance, you may want to look at http://www.autobuyers.com.au, a large organisation in the car market. There are both manual and automatic cars, but automatic is preferred. There is no MOT system in Queensland, yet you do pay REGO a similar system to road tax, however when you buy or are selling a second hand vehicle there is a test to make the car road worthy. However in New South Wales and featured on the Australian Immigration DVD Sydney. If a car is more than 4 years old you need to get a check and a PINK SLIP similar to our MOT system, if the car is unregistered and off-road you need to get a blue slip. You do pay REGO a similar system to road tax, however when you buy or are selling a second hand vehicle there is a test to make the car road worthy. It is the drivers responsibility to ensure the car is serviced regularly, nd there are lots of good garages around. The information is shown visually, the DVD’s available are Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney . The DVD is over two hours long and has narrated footage and will show you lots about the transport system, and you will see car yards, buses, taxis for yourself. So you can see for yourself what living in Australia would be like after your Australian Immigration. These DVD’s are vital information for anyone wanting to Immigrate to Australia, or is thinking of Australian Immigration or wanting to work in Australia.Australian Visas can be obtained from many Australian immigration lawyer, however if you have an immigration related or Australian citizenship question you can’t find the answer to, try this http://www.askamigrationexpert.com for a free service, to resolve your, work in Australia or visa for Australia query.Article written byTessa StevenWho completed her Australian immigration in August 2004, has work in Australia, and gained Australian Citizenship in December 2006.The family entered Australia on a skills Australian visa, and are loving their move and say their migration to Australia was the best thing they ever did.

WORKING & SHOPPING IN AUSTRALIA

back to articles

Shop until you drop at the multiple level shopping meccas of Australia Fair and Pacific Fair (which is QLD’s largest shopping venue) with 10 major stores and hundreds of speciality stores or try your hand at Jupiters Casino. Both these are visited on the Gold Coast DVD, or take a look at the Sunshine Plaza on the Sunshine Coast DVD, or the main city, Queen Victoria Building, Bondi Shopping Mall on the Sydney DVD or Brisbanes shopping centre and giant mecca’s.When shopping, after your Australian immigration you will see many familiar names McDonalds (Mackas), Spa, Shell, BP, Big W, Aldi, Woolworths (which sells food or groceries) as well as Coles and Bi Low. Grocery stores are open from 7am until 9pm usuallyAll this information is shown visually on the Australian Immigration DVD’s available to you , with over two hour’s real life footage of Australia. Since I completed my Australian Immigration I have been working to help people with their own Australian Immigration and gain work in Australia and then Australian Citizenship as I did, by obtaining an Australian visa using an Australian Immigration Lawyer.I am passionate about the great lifestyle Australia has to offer, and found no visual reality information was available when we were wanting to complete our Australian Immigration, so I decided to produce four DVD’s which show you for yourself the lifestyle on offer here down under .You will notice after your Australian immigration, alcohol is not sold in supermarkets due to licencing laws you must purchase alcohol from a bottle shop or off licence usually located near the supermarket or attached to a pub. They are generally open 10am – 10pm. A large bottle-shop in Queenslad is BWS Beer Wines and Spirits. Beer is generally served in a pot (half pint ) or a scooner (3/4 pint), and a bottle of beer holds the nickname ‘ stubby’ and a crate of beer would be known as a slab (stubbys are available in the products section of this website.)I have found since our Australian immigration, retail is one of the largest sectors of employment for those wanting to work in Australia, when looking for employment Mycareer, Careerone and Seek are the largest recruitment agencies in Australia, and all have good websites, to help you find work in Australia.Local newspapers always have positions vacant advertised, and the unemployment rate is currently low. In every Australia Post Office there are complimentary white and yellow pages, this is a good idea to pick these up as soon as you can after you have entered Australia on the relevant visa, this will help you find , work in Australia. If you are entering Australia on a business visa (Australian visas) and need to buy a business, there are more franchise opportunities currently in Australia than anywhere else in the world. There are real estate agencies specifically targeting, Australian immigration, and people who want to find a business for there, work in Australia. Take a look at http://www.century21.com.au or http://www.raywhite.comThese are two of the largest real estates in Australia and may help you find what you are looking for to enable you to, work in AustraliaEveryone needs to do a tax return at the end of the year, even the fully employed. A system which is very different to the UK, and there is a negative gearing tax benefit for anyone wanting to buy investment property…you get a tax reduction for any debt the investment property has incurred.Since our Australian immigration, we have found in Queensland that currently Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast have larger corporate organisations, sales positions. Yet the Sunshine Coast has a lot more small businesses, both have lots of retail and obviously tourism.Australia is like anywhere, In my view, if you are willing to work you WILL find work and do well, as employers respect immigrants for there commitment to the country and the fact they have make a huge change in there lifestyle. That’s not to say you wont get ribbed for your accent and being a POHM – you will. The information is shown visually, the DVD’s available are Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney. The DVD is over two hours long and has narrated footage and will show you lots about obtaining a job and work in Australia. These DVD’s are vital information for anyone wanting to Immigrate to Australia, or is thinking of Australian Immigration or wanting to work in Australia.Australian Visas can be obtained from many Australian immigration lawyer, however if you have an immigration related question you can’t find the answer to, try this http://www.askamigrationexpert.com for a free service, to resolve your, visa for Australia query.Article written byTessa StevenWho completed her Australian immigration in August 2004, has work in Australia, and gained Australian Citizenship in December 2006.The family entered Australia on a skills Australian visa, and are loving their move and say their migration to Australia was the best thing they ever did.

bluzee - I think that your posts are becoming rather personal. I'm sure after living in Aus for 35 years you'll have alot to contribute to the forum - there's bound to be differences of opinions - that's life and human nature, I hope that you everyone can 'let this one go' now - seems awfully petty to have to close a thread about cars of all things.

When we arrive in Perth in June we have a new Kia Rio Sports waiting for us, which we bought when over in January. Ideal for my wife to use in the city and surrounds but a car that would be no use exploring the Ozzie outback.

Now on to the 4x4's which, surprisingly, have not yet been mentioned on this post.

One of the reasons for moving to Oz (other than for my wife returning home after 18 years in the UK to be back with her parents, which is a minor reason !!!!!! :biglaugh:) is to enjoy the fantastic and unique outdoor life and the only way you can do that is with a Landcruiser or Patrol. Therfore to enjoy this type of lifestyle to the full we will be buying a 5.5 metre trailer boat and caravan/trailer tent to tow all over Western Australia. Also off-roading in Oz is nothing like what it is like in the UK and it is another great way of enjoying and exploring the outback. Also most of the best beaches can only be reached by big 4x4 vehicles. So depending on what you expect your lifestyle to be get the type of transport that suits it.

Happy motoring :spinny:

I haven't found your comments personally directed to me - maybe they were and they were very subtle? I'm sorry if you found that my post was having a 'dig' at you, but I can't for the life of me see why. I did genuinely suggest that you may have something to contribute to our forum because you've lived here a long time. I do think your attitude has been one of 'spoiling for a fight', which is a shame because i do feel that the forum can benefit from people who have/are living in Australia - which lets face it has been/is the aim of most of us on here. I remember when I first started using the forum and a gentleman called abc diamond was on here - he'd lived in Aus years and was a mine of information to us prospective migrants, as are BullCreek Bob and BobCat (both of who have lived here years). Bull Creek Bob in particular was wonderful to us personally when we arrived in Aus.

This thread has come along way from being about cars - which is a shame. You asked me to ask you something .... to be honest i can't think of anything I need to know at the moment, in part because I have found your replies to others quite rude - I do appreciate that this may be doing you a dis-service and it's not how you intended them to come accross, and that the 'tone' of the written word can be misinterpreted.

The process of migration is a costly one - both emotionally and financially, and this forum strives to be as supportive as possilbe - I'd like to keep it that way

Who would have thought my little question would have lead to this :swoon:

thanks for the replies I will certainly have a look at some of the cars mentioned. As a kid I always wanted an old battered ute but not good for the kids.

Asylon as much as cairns appeals to me the hubbies job is taking us to Perth. Cairns is not completely perfect for the rest of the family, but for me on my own now thats a different story
