  1. Hi All I am currently in the UK, having applied for citizenship before I left Oz. I am shortly having to return to Oz to await approval of my citizenship. I think I will have to return back to the UK after my approval has come through (personal family stuff). So, my question is, does anyone know if I will be able to return back to the UK AFTER approval but before my citizenship date? Also, will I get a date sent to me for my citizenship ceremony if I am in the UK or will I again have to return to Oz. Thanks HH
  2. Hi Everyone I'm just about to apply online for my citizenship. I am a bit clueless as to whether I need to get my documents certified before I scan them and attach them to my application. The Citizenship website states that, when applying by post, the documents have to be certified but it doesn't state whether or not they have to be certified if applying online. Am I missing something......? I would appreciate it if anyone else could let me know what they did. Many thanks again to all the fantastic Poms-In-Oz folk! HH x
  3. Hello All I am applying for citizenship on 30 July, 4 years to the day that I arrived in Oz. A few days later I need to return to the UK for 6 weeks (family matters) - the question is: Will I be able to inform DIAC that I am away for that period of time and will they be able to send me a test date after this period. OR, do I definitely have to stay in Oz until I have taken the test? I know I am 'allowed' out of the country whilst I wait for my ceremony date but I am not sure if I am allowed out of the country whilst I wait for my test date. Many thanks HH

Travel After Citizenship Application But Before Test

Hi Cal Thanks for that. I was just wondering what year you did your test. I was under the impression that you used to be able to book your test but that you can't book it now - I thought you just had to wait for a date to be sent. Do you, or anyone else, know if that is the case. Thanks x

    Applying for Citizenship

Hello Everyone Again I am asking the lovely PIO-ers for advice! I am planning on putting my application in for citizenship in July 2012 (when I have been here for four years). Do I have to be settled in one place whilst they process my application? I am planning on quitting my job mid 2012 and will be travelling around Oz for the next six or so months. That means I won't have a permanent residence in Australia whilst the application for citizenship is being processed, although I do have a friends address that everything can be mailed to. Do you think I would be able to do this or will I have to just stay in Victoria until the whole citizenship process has completed? Thanks in advance. HH

    Citizenship Enquiry

Hello I've got a bit of a convoluted question and home someone can help me!......... I arrived in Oz mid-July 2008 on a GSM, permanent residency visa. I am hoping to apply for citizenship, which I believe I can do in 4 years time, i.e. mid-July 2012. I am hoping to go travelling outside of Oz sometime in 2011. I haven't made definite plans yet because I am wondering if there is a limit as to how many days/months I can be away from Australia before it starts to affect my application for citizenship. Do I have to remain in Australia for the whole four years or will I be able to go on my long trip? Any advice / help would be extremely appreciated. Thanks HH

  13. Hi all I'm going back to the UK for a visit, and also having holidays in South Africa and France whilst I'm away. Can anyone recommend any cheap travel insurance companies in Oz? I can't believe how expensive travel insurance is over here - approx ten times the cost of purchasing travel insurance in the UK. Any help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. HH

    Wills & Probate NSW

Hi It's a bit of a long shot, but wonder if anyone knows whether a will has to go through probate in NSW. Also, is there a way of finding out if someone has written a will, without asking the immediate family. Thanks HH

    Wills & Probate NSW

Thanks Fleabo. I did contact the Supreme Court and they said probate wasn't applied for but they said there might still be a will, which I didn't think was possible. The woman I spoke to wasn't the most helpful and just ended up confusing me more!

    Buying My First Home

Hi I was wondering if someone could help a novice homebuyer! I've been in Oz for 2 years now and have decided I'm going to stop renting and buy my own place. I was just wondering if you could give me information on costs involved in buying a house, how much of a deposit will I need. Just any info people can spare really. Oh, and is it cheaper to buy a property off-plan? Thanks in advance HH

    Superannuation

Hi All I've just started working as a sub-contractor, have an ABN and will be paying my own tax. The question is, is it compulsory for me to pay into a superannuation fund? Hope someone can help. Thanks a lot HH
  20. Hi All I have recently had a four week visit back to the UK to visit family. Whilst I was back in the UK I received an email from my boss telling me not to bother coming back because she was keeping the locum on instead! She gave me no reason whatsoever, I know that there isn't any problem with my work, I think she just didn't like me having four weeks holiday. I am wondering if there is anything I can do. I did not have a contract, I did have a letter offering me the position and I have been working there for just over one year. Any advice gratefully appreciated. HH

    Laptop Help Needed

Hi everyone Since arriving in Oz I have been plugging my laptop into the mains using a power adaptor. Anyway, my cable from the laptop is on it's way out and I need a new one. Does anyone know if I can just buy any Oz cable that will allow me to plug the laptop in or do I have to get some sort of UK specific cable - I didn't know if there was a voltage difference. I don't want to blow up my laptop! Hope that makes sense and hope someone can help! Thanks a lot HH x
