Dayna Dickson
Hi everyone, I am just wondering if anyone has any idea of what is on at Christmas and New Year in Fremantle and Perth? Were going for 8 days and not got much of an idea of what to do or where to go so any information would be very handy. TIA

paul1977
Don't expect much then you won't be disappointed..! Simple .. And definitely don't expect a New Year's Eve fire work display.. They don't do that here as it's past the residents 9.30 bed time

fifi69
Hi Dayna. Tbh prob not that much happening in Freo itself...unless its just busy bars, nightclubs and atmosphere your after. you haven't given your age, or if there are children to carer for....so I shall give a couple of options. Northbridge is the place to head to in Perth for NYE ....a very family orientated gathering. Streets closed off, live music, outdoor cinema, a parade, pretty buzzing without being daft... if that's not your scene then there is still lots of bars and clubs in the area to head too, either before or after midnight. Would be really easy to get to from Freo...just hop on a train which will take you to the Perth underground and its a short walk across the bridge. No probs getting back either...public transport running from Perth to Freo all thru the night (well they did last year). Just google transperth for times of buses and trains. if your younger then Scarborough beach may be an option for a beach style party...although I do believe there may be a crackdown on permitting alcohol. If its a more formal affair your after....all the big hotels have dinner dances going on. You would need to check availability though at this stage. somewhere else to look up would be Crown Casino....lots of bars and restaurants there plus a nightclub.. My experience of NYE is a lot different to Paul77....Coming from the home of Hogmanay Scotland...Perth does just as well...it's just different....no fireworks...but they come in Jan. it's all here if your willing to actually bother looking for it...A really good night. Us and friends will be heading to Northbridge again..

Guest
Ok I'm going to pitch in between Paul and Fifi and say that I found Christmas & NYE in Perth very underwhelming. Christmas is (as you would expect) very family orientated - I lived close to Fremantle and most people just head to the beach or the park and have BBQ's/play cricket etc. pretty much the same as any Sunday. NYE is stubbornly different to Sydney/Brisbane etc. with WA'ers preferring to save themselves for Australia Day. I am staggered that anyone could call Northbridge 'family friendly' - I have to be honest and say I haven't been on NYE but I would have thought it would be no different to the other 364 days where the focus is on getting drunk and all the problems associated with that. We went to Mandurah last NYE where they definitely have a family friendly celebrations AND fireworks (at 9am and midnight) - I think Rockingham does too. If there are children involved the Perth Zoo NYE do is fab but it does peak early http://www.ticketmaster.com.au/Happy-Zoo-Year-tickets/artist/1171967 Most people just celebrate with friends though - maybe it was just the people we met but entertaining at home was as exciting as it got most of the time. fifi69
As you say Lady R...you never went to Northbridge on NYE... If you had done...you would have seen just how family friendly it is. .... never saw any hint of trouble....brilliant live bands...outdoor cinema playing kiddies movies and then a brilliant singer....lovely just soaking up the atmosphere... As for as exciting as it got...maybe you should have stepped out of your comfort zone..
