GCSE's Equivalent in WA

Hopefully we will get our CO in the next few months as on a 175 and submitted requested forms from Immigration Dept.

Should we wait for two years until our daughter has completed UK GCSE's or push for a quick migration so she can sit Australian equivalent?

If she sits her GCSE's can these results be used to gain entry in to the A Level equivalent or will she need to re-sit exams for entry requirements?

Any advice would be appreciated.

GCSEs are irrelevant unless you plan to do some education in UK down the track. There is no equivalent, Australia is a foreign country with its own standards and each state is different however, generically, the last 2 years of school leading to a year 12 certificate are most important and it is advisable for a child either just turned or just about to turn 16 before the cut off date (ranges from April to July) to start school in the Feb at the beginning of year 11. Any later than that and the easiest option is to wait for them to finish A Levels. Do not arrive part way through year 11 if they gave aspirations for Uni as, though it is possible, it gets trickier to achieve.

As others have said there is no equivalent and the sooner they enter the Australian education system the better - it differs in each state but all take either vocational or academic assessments at 17/18 in Year 12.

The only issue would come if they were to return to the UK before doing that and I 'think' A levels are probably more portable than the Australian equivilents (especially as they aren't even the same in each state).

Wikipedia has links to the Year 12 exams in each of the states

If you are in any doubt it may be worth opting for the IB which is recognised in both Australia and the UK

Just to be clear, there are no externally assessed exams for 16 year olds in Australia. Entrance to high school would be based on catchment area and/or reference/interview/entrance exam (only for private schools or state Gifted and Talented programmes)

If your daughter is particularly able then she may be able to get a place on a 'Gifted and Talented' programme. I only know about these in detail in WA but similar probably exist in other states.

This is roughly the same as taking an 11+ exam but children new to the area can enter in later years. Details on WA are here http://www.det.wa.edu.au/curriculumsupport/giftedandtalented/detcms/navigation/parents/gifted-and-talented-programs/
