  1. Thanks for the help all. Still finding it hard to find info on the web.
  2. Hi all, hope all is well. Just come back from oz and we will be making the big move next year. I have held a full UK driving license for nearly 20 years so from what I understand its a transfer thing rather than having to take the oz driving test. My question is that I want to do my motorcycle test in the UK so I can do a Euro trip before leaving, is it the same as the driving license where if you pass within 2 years I have to retake in oz ? anyone found any website with info? Any help on this would be great.
  3. ah ok thanks for clearing that up
  4. Hi all. This may sound a silly question. We entered Australia a few months ago on our general skilled migration visas as required and are now back in the uk as we have until 2018 to move permanently. Just checked our visas online and you would think there would be some record available for us to prove we went in the specified time as I don't want any problems at boarder control on the way back in. Or is it all logged on there system and there is nothing for me to see or need to. Am I looking to far into this ? Thanks
  5. Hi all and happy new year. I will be out on the gold coast next week and was wondering if anyone knows of a few job agencies around there, even around Brisbane. I have done the Google thing but its a bit unclear, I am a car mechanic and the wife is a hairdresser so would like a bit of direction. Thanks
  6. Hi Cal. Yes will hold it on the card if we love it out there. We are not 100% until we visit. Thanks
  7. Hi all. Just wondering if someone could answer a quick question. When I return back to uk from oz holiday (just popping over to log our visas) I will have either oz cash or money left on the travel money card. Which one would I get a better exchange rate on. Thanks. Happy new year
  8. Sounds interesting I will have to look into them thanks
  9. We r in the same position. Any help would be great. Thanks
  10. Yes we are thinking about the dolphins I think she would love that. Thanks
  11. Hi all, Great thread idea Wattsy1982 as I also could do with help/ info.We are coming out to the Gold Coast in January to research the local area for when we make the big lifetime move in 2015. Anyone know of some family groups to introduce our self's to and have chats with Brit's who have already moved out there ? We have a basic plan of general research, Job agents, walk into some garages and have a chat (as I am a car mechanic),look at properties to rent/buy and of course some trips to Australia zoo, Sea world, Morton Island, surfing lesson etc etc. If anyone has any helpful info or any more holiday day trip ideas that would be great. We are a family of four, we have a daughter of 14 and son of 3 years. Ps its our daughters 15 birthday when we are there so something special that day would be amazing. As for Secondary school's is it easy just to enrol your child or is it a struggle to get in, maybe due to space ? We are staying in Wharf Rd so just wondering on feed back on that little area. Thanks Chris
  12. We have booked our holiday with the co-op travel agent and they have offered us a money card. You load an amount before you go and with draw from a cash machine in oz, the only charge is £3.50 per draw so just pull ur max out each time. That's our plain and about a grand cash. Enjoy your time out there
  13. Thanks for the bump and thank you all for the helpful reply's, I have a general skill visa so don't need sponsor, really looking forward to it. I have an app on my phone counting down the days 113 today. Thanks all its a wonderful website/ very helpful
  14. Hi all I am taking the family to the Gold coast / Brisbane area in January for 3 weeks for a holiday but also to register our general skills migration visa. We are going to look at the houses available, where we would like to live etc etc but very important is me looking at the job market. Being a motor mechanic I am going to have a wonder around garages and job agents to get a feel for demand as from home in the UK you can only do so much. Can anyone who is a car mechanic give any advise ? especially around that area. I am hoping after being out there for a few weeks I will come away with confidence so we will come back, sell up and move out there the year after. I now it does not always go smoothly but hoping for the best, anyone else done a similar thing ? would be interested what you did and what you wished you did. Thanks all
