Money to go over

Hi,

 

I was wondering roughly how much money you would need when you move to Oz.

 

This meaning after visa paid for (just waiting on grant) and after flights etc.

 

Just want basic info as hubby will have a job before he goes over.

First month or 2 rent - basic bill cost etc.

 

Any help and info would be great.

You should take as much as you can and will find you need just a bit more than you have. Some people do it on very little, others struggle with a lot. But having a guarantee of income when you arrive will make a huge difference.

I was told by DIAC recently, when my girlfriend phoned and asked, that I'd need $5000 in the bank after everything certified before they'd even grant you a visa. Is this not true?

It may be depending on the visa, i didn't have to have any funds but whv tend to require them don't they?

 

We've come over with £16k and so far it's lasted us right. 2 months in

we based that on

3 months rent and deposit in advance about £6000,

 

a car about £4000

3 months food and the rest was set up to ladtf us til shipping arrived. We came with no jobs but are entitled for benefits if we hit hard times.

we are down to our final few hundred and thankfully look like jobs are round the corner.

There are a loit of costs and i def agree budget and add a bit more but honestly it's doable

I'll be taking about £60k (unless I win the Lottery in the meantime) but I have somewhere to stay rent-free (relatives) until I get sorted and also my hubby will have a job lined up for when we arrive.

We had jobs to go to as well which obviously makes a significant difference, but still we found we went through loads of money those early days. From memory: temporary accommodation for five weeks $7k, rental bond $6k, deposit on car $10k, washing machine and dryer (didn't ship), basic bedding, crockery, garden furniture etc until the container arrived $ (don't remember). But still maybe about $30k for us.

I wouldn't go without at least $50k in the bank.

Through a coin into the deepest well you can fined and listen to it fall, when it hits the bottom thats how much money you need,as you will never know.
