urgent please help regarding medicals

Hello everyone,

I am a prospective applicant.I had an episode of adolescent crisis several years before during which i was prescribed with mild tranquilizer seroquel 25 mg for about an year.Later my practitioner told me that i dont need any meidications as such. However, just as a supplement he had advised me that i should take 12.5mg of same medication just to boost my perfomance.I had graduated from university in top class grade.Since then i had been working in Japan and still taking 12.5 mg as a supplement.

I consulted my doc about the immigration and he simply said i don't need to mention anything during the medical exam as nothing will be detected either in the blood or urine test.

However,i have suggested him that it will be fraud and i need to provide with the report.

could someone please advise what kind of report is needed and what would be best way to present my case.

I am very confused and frustrated.

Thank you very much in advance

I have a similar situation (kind of) where I took medication for something for the last 6 months and have now stopped. My doctor said don't mention it - its done with now. I suggested that with computers being used to log my details and issue prescriptions etc, honesty has to be the best policy and he then agreed and gave me an explanatory note for the condition/my history.

Perhaps you could ask your doctor for the same and explain that you want to be honest about your medical history.

It has to be the best way I'm sure... Even if it causes your medicals to be referred its surely better to list everything than be worrying you may be 'caught out'?

Good luck

When you have a medical you are obliged to provide information on medical conditions that you have or are still being treated for - as you continue to take Seroquel you will be required to disclose this information. The person prescribing your medication should provide a letter outlining the condition you have/had, investigations and treatments and what the prognosis is (over the next 5 years), if you will need to continue to take the medication etc.

It won't stop you getting a visa, you may be asked to see a psychiatrist for a report, but not giving the correct information and them later finding out could result in a visa being withdrawn.

As a note regarding your future medication supply - it comes under authorised restrictive prescribing and can only be prescribed under PBS for certain conditions. GP's may not prescribe it at all if it does not come into one of the codes or you may have to pay a high private prescription cost.

Hi Ali,

Thanks alot for the info bro.It was definitely helpful.Would appreciate if you can answer undermentioned questions from your experience.

1.Is the medical report supposed to provided only if requested by the doctor?

2.Could you please provide some more details points which needs to be focussed.I have informed my doc that a report of investigation, prognosis, etc is needed. He has finally agreed and asked me to provide him with structure and theme focus of letter suitable to clear immigration rules.

Hence would be grateful if you can provide some more details about the same.

Thanks and Regards

The posters above are suggesting that you attend the medical with a report from your doctor detailing what your current prescription is, what your condition is, what the prognosis is. If the panel doctor wants further reports these will probably need to come from a private doctor chosen by them. I think people have been pretty clear as to what the report needs to contain so I won't repeat it here.

Good luck!

You will need to produce the letter when you go for your medical and the information will be submitted - you may be asked to see a specialist or the information may be sufficient.

Your Dr. will need to state:

Your diagnosis

How long they have been treating you

Any investigations (related to the illness) and treatment

How long you are likely to remain on your medication

What your health is like now

Your prognosis.

Hi mate,

Went ok, I took my doctor letters and explained the condition and history to the examining doctor. She took copies and went to speak with her supervisor and returned and said 'everything looks ok...'. I was referred anyway (although I got excited thinking I might be an 'A' rating for a while. The doctor has a form and must give A or B for their check over. I found the extract below on line when I was doing a bit of research. Basically if you have a condition the doctor appears to be obligated to rate it B - which means review / referral. I think they would rate B in most cases of an existing or previous condition as they probably need to cover their back sides in case they rate somebody A and that somebody later turned out to have a costly condition... Good luck!

"What do the 'A' and 'B' ratings on the Form 26 mean?

A rating of 'A' should be given where there are no findings of clinical significance.

A rating of 'B' should be given in cases where a significant medical matter arises, when abnormal findings are present, or if you have reservations about an applicant's fitness, notwithstanding the absence of abnormal findings. Make sure you include any relevant details, particularly highlighting current status and stability of the problem.

Remember: The rating is not about whether you believe an applicant should have a visa or whether you think they meet the health criteria. The rating is simply an indicator of the presence of a medical condition or not and means the forms can be processed efficiently. If a medical condition of current or future concern exists, you should rate the file 'B'.

Please refer to page 44, Question 24, of the Panel Instructions for further detail."

Hi Brizi, good question, I actually can't be sure I'm just making an assumption (hopefully I'm not wrong).

After our medicals on Wednesday, I logged in to our application today and my part still says "Organise your health examinations" and my girlfiend's says "No health examinations are required for this person for this visa subclass based on the information provided to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship." I'm guessing this means her medicals have cleared and mine are in the referral review queue...

I'm not 100% sure if I'm correct but it would make sense.

We booked our medicals after hitting the "Organise your health examinations" link in our visa application area and we booked the medicals using the new 'HEP ######' so the results are uploaded fairly quickly.

Take a look at this... http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/health-requirements/_pdf/health-process-visa-applicants.pdf

  • 2 months later...

Hi!

I lodged my visa 189 Oct 5, 2013; frontloaded everything including medicals by Oct 31 and the whole time the 'organize your health link had been there. Not surprised sinced I have declared some medical conditions.CO assigned last wednesday ( Oct. 20) and asked for my health evidence to which I replied by sending copy of my emdical history at a panel doctor.

immediately after that email she acknowledged having located my meds and saw that it was indeed referred.

However a day after that my evisa page showed that the ' organize health link' was gone and had been replaced with ' no health examination required'.

Is that indicative that it's been ' cleared ' ? My health status though shows ' requested'.

If anyone can help clarify if referred medicals , when cleared finally , will change the ' organize link' into ' no health exam required'.

thanks in advance.

Changes in online status do not mean anything, nobody tries to send you messages to way. Just ignore it and wait for communication by email.

Well I guess that's what I need to do. It's just that this waiting game is somehow ' debilitating '. Work and personal life are left hanging pending the outcome.

Thanks rupert.

Only if you allow it to be. Personally I did not find the waiting had any impact on my life whatsoever and I had to wait a lot longer back then. You get people now stamping their feet if they don't get a visa within three weeks beginning to end. Just chill out and get on with your life and stop looking at online status! It is utterly pointless.
