It is rather bizarre that magpies seem to hate people on bikes, very strange. My poor daughter got badly swooped last year and flatly refuses to use her bike until the birds stop attacking, it quite frightened to see them relentlessly swooping and dive bombing lol OH is a keen road cyclist and one of his routes they do on a Tuesday evening Is particularly bad for this, OH looking over his shoulder whilst riding a high speed to find a Magpie an inch from the back of his helmet...following him :biglaugh: shouldn't laugh really :eek::biglaugh:

Wish spring would hurry up - Canberra is experiencing a decidedly grey and cool August..

 

 

Apart from this year, it's been like this in August for the last ten years or more in the UK, but it's our summer, your not whinging are you mate? Lol

I've just recovered from rolling all over the floor laughing and Mr MTT looking at me like I'm mad. However, when I told him what I was laughing at, he asked if the birds perhaps "target" cyclists because of the shape of the helmets. Thinking about it, this could be it, as the front of a cycle helmet is elongated like a beak. Just a thought........

Just to clarify, you mean there are birds attacking the kids/pets??? I`ve never heard of it before :eek:. Is it just in one area or all over?

 

Some birds are territorial, particularly when there are eggs being hatched or young chicks. They are just being protective about their own home and children. Magpies and plovers are the ones always mentioned. Can't say that I've experienced/heard of others which do this....but there may be some. Here's a few tips to cope with this behaviour:

Mangoes are ripening, about the size of a big bloke's fist and will grow to about 1 kg each. The gardenias are just starting to flower. Passionfruit are starting to ripen...Dancing lady orchids are flowering profusely.

 

 

Bananas are producing big bells, so that means new year bananas... Pawpaws are ripening.:jiggy:

lets get things straight....winter lasted in Perth 5 months.

It was cold in March and has only just warmed up in the last 3 weeks (end of October). Winter was for the 1st part cold but dry with warmish days (14 degrees at lunch)

but soon as it got to August it warmed a bit, however it through it down almost every day from August until the 2nd week in October and we had grey skies.

 

bear in mind also Jan & Feb are too hot to be out in the sun. To those comparing Perth to the UK, if you come here for weather alone, its not worth it !

You must live in a different Perth to me Dusty. I can't remember it throwing it down almost every day.

It was a vert wet winter but I dont recall a cold March? Spring didnt start till October, mid October at that but Id say winter didnt start till July, April and May were lovely, I was swimming in an outdoor pool in April, heated albeit but I remember it was nice and that was in Margaret River so warmer in Perth

It was cold in March and has only just warmed up in the last 3 weeks (end of October). Winter was for the 1st part cold but dry with warmish days (14 degrees at lunch)

but soon as it got to August it warmed a bit, however it through it down almost every day from August until the 2nd week in October and we had grey skies.

 

bear in mind also Jan & Feb are too hot to be out in the sun. To those comparing Perth to the UK, if you come here for weather alone, its not worth it !

Been a bit of a drought in the central coastal area of Queensland with just under 42 mm rain (1.6") in 102 days.

 

Temps have been around 30C-32C for the last 4 weeks with 18C to 24C at night.

 

If anyone has any spare rain, we could do with it, please.

33C to 30cm snow to 23C and bloody humid in a coupla days. Just love Aussie weather!

Two days and 7 turtles nested on our beach. Hope they all hatch successfully. I think it has been 4 years since any hatchlings made it to the sea, storms were the main factor no baby turtles made it.
