lozzachino
Hi all, have seen a few questions regarding applying for benefits if on a PR visa. Came across this today: http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/newly-arrived-residents-waiting-period does anyone know if this enforced? I assume it is, however i have seen people give advice that as soon as you have a tfn number you can apply for benefits, or does it depend on the benefit? any advice welcome, thanks
newjez
So - if you come in with PR (ie you have been married to an Aussie for a while) then you can get full benefits?
lozzachino
Yes, does seem if you have an aussie family member, doesnt state how close, you may be eligible straightaway. But not if you just have PR and do not have an aussie relative. can anyone advise?
NicF
I'm on a spouse visa and it does state somewhere in the paper work related to it that I am not entitled to claim any benefits for the first two years I am here. I am able to claim the family tax benefits like anyone else on PR visas though. I'm not sure which family members the site is refering to but I wouldn't rely on being able to claim benefite when you get here in case you don't qualify. Peach
The rule of thumb is: on any kind of skilled visa, no benefits for two years (except Family assistance A&B). On a permanent family visa (child, partner, LRR etc) no two year waiting period for benefits.
calNgary
This link is more for employment type benefits and they do have a waiting period. For Family Assistance, Rent Assistance and Child Care allowance when on PR there is no waiting period. Cal x
