  1. Must depend on which region you are in, as we are finding the exact opposite. We are now on the Sunshine Coast, and we think the produce back in M&S and Sainsbury' was better.
  2. Hi Island, just a thought, and it could be very very expensive, but could your pet transport company find a flight to an european city instead ? I can personally recommend a pet transport company that picks up pets in europe by road, and drives back to the UK, and I think the owner can travel in the van too in some circumstances. We used this company to pick up our cat from France to the UK, brilliant service, let me know if you want their details. Good luck.
  3. Hi Lynne, for current rules and accurate quarantine costs, have a look at the Australian Embassy website in the UK. It lists all costs per each state. uk.embassy.gov.au Good luck.
  4. That's fine. We recently brought three months worth of medications, also via Singapore, no problems experienced. Safe travels
  5. We used InsureandGo.
  6. It was a paper form, picked up from a post office in the UK, and you had to attach a current photo. This was in 2018 though so it may have changed since then. The DVLA website will direct Roy to the procedure he needs to follow.
  7. Get your UK driving licence re issued with a photo and your address as soon as you land. That is useful ID. We applied and received our news ones in just over a week, mind you, that was before covid. However, we found the DVLA very organised and efficient before and during covid.
  8. Hi Roy, when we returned two years ago, we found it relatively easy to set up life again. We used OFX for large transfers, opened a UK bank account with our tenancy agreement, but as you are living with family you will have an address to use which is great. Keep your Australian mobile phone sim, you need to be able to receive SMS codes for some money transfers. Good luck with your move
  9. Yes, I would. We recently arrived back here, and whilst going through customs, I was asked about the trainers in our suitcases, and if they had been cleaned. The staff could see the thick soles of them them on the X Ray machine. Good luck.
  10. Thanks ramot. Yes, we have our flight booked, this will be our fourth date change by the airline, so fingers crossed this one does depart !
  11. Morning Marisawright, no, this will not affect us, we're going to settle in Queensland. After 28 lovely years in WA we just want a change
  12. Canning Vale is a nice area if you are after a typical suburban 4 x 2 house, great for families. Just check out the traveling time though to your areas of work.
  13. Travel Insurance, and let the Australian Electoral Commission know to remove you from their list. Good luck, it's a lovely time of year to return to the UK.
  14. You can phone the agent and arrange for a viewing at another time if you wish. When we sold, we had viewings after work in addition to our "open home" on a Saturday. Open days are a great way to view though, especially if there are a few houses in the same area, you can usually nip around and see them all in the space of an hour. I think it's so much easier to view homes in Aus.

    When to go?

If you look at this website. uk.embassy.gov.au Go to COVID19 FAQ's, and it lists all quarantine charges and other relevant info state by state.
  16. Well, we've had THREE flights cancelled on us since beginning of March. We now have to pay business class fares to get home (thanks to the cap on arrivals) I have searched on line for two seats, and can't find any until end of August ! We are happy to pay for our own quarantine. So to any critics still out there, we have been, and still are, trying to get home.
  17. Hi RosieH11, I hear you. I'm fed up of trying to explain to some people why we are still here in the UK. We actually had flights booked BEFORE covid, but they got cancelled, cancelled again, and now again. I'm ignoring those who don't, or can't understand, they will never get it if they don't understand by now. I wish you well and I really hope you get on that flight
  18. Hi JinOz, our agent told us the flight was OK, but when I checked the website myself late last night, the flight had gone. Our agent is closed till Monday, I can not get through to Singapore Airlines at all, so we're stuck in limbo right now. I've been searching online for any other flights back to Aus, and I can't find any, only one with another airline which has a huge transit layover time. We have to be out of this house on a set date, if we can't get another flight booked , then like you, we are homeless. Scott Morrison needs to step up. His policy has created serious issues for hundreds of Aussie citizens around the world.
  19. Exactly. I think Scott Morrison forgot that the whole world went into lockdown, and he obviously lives in another world where lockdown has a different meaning. And just found out last night that our flight has been cancelled, YET AGAIN, due to his restrictions, so how does he expect us get home then ?
  20. Thank you Nemesis, whilst that is not good news, at least I am aware of the procedure. Oh well, if our flight does not take off, we'll just have to camp at the airport and wait for the next available flight as we'll not have a home to go back to to wait.
  21. Thank you, yes I saw that. But how on earth is Australia going to manage the 4000 though ? If airlines can fly whoever they want, someone somewhere needs to be keeping a record of the passenger numbers surely ? I don't want to turn up at the airport only be told sorry, we have filled our quota for this week. Another policy with no detail or procedure, it's very very stressful. Anyway, good luck with your move and I hope you get home safely
  22. This is excellent advice. We have just come to the end of a trial year here in the UK, it's been lovely but it's just not for us anymore. We are flying back to Aus early August.
  23. True. But that also works in reverse
