  1. RRV is nothing to worry about if you meet the 2 year residency requirements. It appears to be fully automated - I got mine in 21 minutes from payment.
  2. What? Don't think ours have done this since we arrived 2 years ago in WA.
  3. That would depend very much on your Super balance I guess! If it is ample to either pay off the home loan or turn into an income stream that covers the repayments, then why not?.
  4. Absolutely this. Search your internal directory or intranet for key words like global mobility / relocation policy etc.
  5. If they have never done this before be prepared for the fact that once they find out what it entails the might not go through with it. Suggest a chat with the head of HR in Australia.
  6. My 5 year RRV was approved in 21 minutes from payment to grant email! Three cheers to automation!!
  7. Not your modern cordless kettle! As you note though, a lot of things you can and should buy replacements for, but there are one or two annoying things like Amazon echo devised which you cannot buy the power cable for. Various TVs, hifi's sonos etc we chucked some dollars at new Au cables for.
  8. The problem with the covid line is you have had 18 months since restrictions were lifted and are only applying now, so you need to make your case well. Again the recommendation for tricky applications is to take professional advice. Getting it wrong could put you back to starting all over again with whatever visa you got to get PR in the first place.
  9. An RRV can be quite tricky if you are not living in Australia, and our resident experts usually recommend using an agent such as Paul to make your case in the best possible way.
  10. I looked into this in WA, and while lots of electricians want you to believe you cannot change a plug, the legislation actually specifically states it is not an offence: (1) Subject to this regulation, a person who carries out any electrical work commits an offence unless the carrying out of that work by that person is authorised by a licence or permit. (2) Subregulation (1) does not apply — h) to the affixing of a plug, electrical appliance plug or cord extension socket to a flexible cord used or intended to be used to connect an electrical appliance, portable sub-distribution board or residual current device to a plug socket outlet through which electricity is supplied or to be supplied at a nominal pressure not exceeding 1 000 volts alternating current or 1 500 volts direct current; Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991 - [07-v0-00].pdf (legislation.wa.gov.au)
  11. Aussie TV is definitely best watched on the various apps. We watch a bit of ABC, SBS, and very occasionally some channel 7, 9 or 10. We don't have an ariel plugged in at all. I use express VPN for iPlayer, but all our other UK apps are out of date and not working now, not worked out how to get amazon fire TV stick to download UK apps.
  12. Yes thanks I have requested that now.
  13. Thanks both! So I could technically count the week I spent in Australia when I activated my visa also? Even though I was not moving permanently at that time?
  14. Hi All As I am approaching both 2 years since I moved permanently to Australia, and the expiry of my initial 5 year travel portion of my PR, I will need to apply for a RRV shortly. (The gap is about 8 weeks so I do expect to get the 5 year RRV.) My question is can I apply 2 years to the day after I arrived in Australia (as I have been resident since then), or do I need to take into account days spent outside the country (holiday, work trips) which would push it back another 30 days or so? I assume no issues arriving back in Australia with only a month to go on the RRV as I have a business trip planned?
  15. Me? I live in Mount Pleasant, and it is both hilly and Pleasant. Blue Flu lives in Leederville or West Leedervile I think, where he is surround by Meth labs and drug dens etc.
  16. Yeah I would just spend some more cash on holidays if I were you.
  17. This is the internet, your caveats have no currency here A great list, and I think important here to focus on what you are looking forward to.
  18. Checkout replacement cost here: The Good Guys - Online Electrical & Home Appliances They can be expensive! We brought all of ours (Washer, Dryer, FF, second / drinks Fridge) and probably prevented us spending $5k which is over 1/4 of the total shipping cost for everything.
  19. I was only joking, although I continue to be amazed that in Perth at least they continue to build houses without it. Madness.
  20. Double glazing is treated like a newfangled modern invention!
  21. They might well ask if you have applied for any others, and then you have to decide whether to admit to it and reduce your chances, or lie and potentially ruin them entirely. I think the advice from the member with thousand of posts is probably better taken than the advice of someone with 11 posts.
  22. You might well end up with a home with 2 lounge areas so having a retiring main lounge suite is no bad thing.
  23. I can tell you from recent experience that the first $25k of buying stuff can happen very very quickly. And we brought a full container load as well.
  24. Your tax return assesses the number of days in which you had an appropriate level of hospital cover (your insurer sends this to you, and most I believe also to the ATO for you) and adjusts your medicare levy surcharge accordingly. As Paul points out the 12 months is the period of time you have to start hospital cover from arrival if you want to avoid the LHC which is a separate and additional levy which you definitely do want to avoid.
