  1. Nurses I need advice. Email this morning to say my LOD is on it's way How long does the LOD last for? As in how long do I have to apply for my visa? I ask because I have a long term condition, which has flared up and I'm worried that I wouldn't currently pass the medical, despite having never been hopsitalised and not claiming any benefits or anything like that. I'm just being treated with medication. I am currently off sick from work. So I want to know how long I've got to get my health improved before I have to go for my medical. Thank you Katherine
  2. Query for whoever will listen.... I have sent my documents to ANMAC for my skills assessment this week including a copy of my passport of course. I will require a new passport before I travel to Australia next year as it will only have 6 months left on it by the time I go. Does anyone know whether the passport for the skills assessment has to match the one I apply for my visa on? Or can I apply for a new passport while my skills assessment is being processed and just send a copy of the new and old passports when I apply for the visa? Or is it easier to wait until my visa is issued and then get it transferred onto a new passport at that point? Advice please?
  3. I thought the transcript copies had to be sent directly from the university to both ANMAC and Ahpra therefore wouldn't need certifying?? Have I misunderstood and sent the wrong information to my university?
  4. I've now got my list of documents for ANMAC, AHPRA and my visa (189). Do I have to submit my transcript of training and syllabus with my visa application as well as ANMAC and Ahpra? The uni are charging me £75 for a full transcript so don't want to have to pay for 3 if I don't have to.
  5. It does. My aunt lives there and we were discussing it last time I visited
  6. In case no one had guessed I am a bit of a worrier
  7. That does make sense. Prahran has one of the hospitals I like to work in in it, but whether I can afford to live there on one fairly small wage I don't know.
  8. I would like to be more of a city person. I would like to think I could adjust to living in a city and that it would be different this time from the last time I tried it. But I guess I just need some convincing. One of the problems I have had living in a relatively small place in the UK is finding a partner.... there isn't really any kind of 'scene' or anything LGBT related in very small places. I don't want hundreds of best friends, just a few people who I can ring or message and say do you fancy meeting for a drink or going to the beach etc.
  9. I fell in love with Melbourne when I visited (I'd never lived in a city when I visited). I didn't like Sydney at all. I also really liked Perth, which I visited on a subsequent visit. Haven't explored more rural Victoria. I was kind of thinking of starting in Melbourne. I will have a PR so I can then explore and move once I have had chance to explore. Part of my reason for moving to Melbourne/Victoria is my aunt and my cousins live in Launceston so Melbourne makes it a short hop across the water and same time zone if I want to call.
  10. I've been having counselling here in the UK so I'm hoping by the time I get to Melbourne I will have more confidence to go and join things and therefore meet some like minded people.
  11. So advice required as the few posts I've read on here have completely freaked me out. I am looking at potentially emigrating to Melbourne early next year on my own. Haven't got any further than that as I assume where I live will be impacted by where I get a job. (Living in Australia has been a dream since I visited in 2008 and I have the qualifications to do it). The whole process is terrifying doing it on my own anyway and the last time I lived in a city in the UK I had a pretty horrible experience, which isn't helping my nerves. So I have some questions: As someone who is constantly cold in the uk, despite living in a brand new, well insulated, centrally heated flat am I just going to be freezing and miserable for large parts of the year living in Melbourne? (Being cold is literally my worse thing ever!) Is finding somewhere nice to live as hard as I'm reading? Despite only being 27 I'm not a party animal so don't need a trendy place to live but I have some requirements to create my comfort zone. Is it easy to meet people? My last city living experience was very isolating and lonely and triggered my depression so I'm terrified a move down under could do the same. I also wouldn't have any kind of support network like I do here. Can anyone reassure me that my dream isnt just making a massive leap into misery?! Katherine
  12. Does anyone know whether you have to submit evidence of CPD for Aphra. There website appears to be sending me round in circles and they seem to have multiple lists for supporting documents that don't quite match.
  13. Does anyone know how long they hold onto documents?
  14. Hi, Have finally got brave enough to start the process for applying for my 189. I have booked my ielts for 7th May! I have a adult nursing degree and 3 years experience (though I'm struggling to get a reference for my 1st year so I can get the points from it). When I was working at who at my old university to get in contact with for transcripts I realised I'd have to ask for them twice. Once for ANMAC and again for Aphra. I wasn't intending on moving out to Oz this year although I could. I'd got in my head that I wouldn't get my visa granted this year now. Was kind of thinking maybe early next year. But all advice welcome! So I now have a couple of questions: Do I apply for anmac and aphra at the same time? How long does aphra registration last once it's granted? Am I likely to get a visa granted this year if I start the process at the end of May? Once the visa is granted is it easy enough to transfer it to a new passport (mine expires next year). I'm sure I'll think of 101 other questions as I gather the documents I need. But wanting to get on with it now as I'm getting seriously sick of the NHS. Katherine
  15. My current boss will write one. I had understood I had to have references from all my previous employers if I wanted points for work experience. Will just have to work harder for my IELTS
  16. Does it not have to comply with anmac's rules for a professional reference. They have an example letter of what it must include?
  17. I need some advice. I have been a qualified adult nurse almost 3 years. I was hoping to use my experience (once I get to 3 years in June) towards point a for a 189 visa but I'm really struggling to find someone from my previous employer to write the professional reference. If I decide not to use my experience for points assessment do I still need to supply all my work history in professional references or just prove that I've got 3 months working experience? I can get the points I need by getting a better score in my IELTS test. Unless anyone has advice on how to find someone at an old employer to write a reference?? Thank you!
  18. I have been trying to get an idea of what the cost of living was in Melbourne and your spreadsheet is utterly fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing. I see the nurse in your house only works 20hrs. I'm assuming I could adjust the hourly rate to work out a rough full time rate?
