@Kathss56 They now seem to be giving everyone 3 months to leave. That wasn't the case earlier I belive. It seems like the department/Minister is only buying time until they have something concrete rolled out about parents not having to leave AUS to activate the visa. That's just my take on the situation and what it seems like.
I’m not so sure! But hopefully things might change ,,

Hi All, some of you may recall my parents have also been here on tourist visa, we paid 2nd VAC in Feb and in March when COVID hit, got a delay to grant of visa pending heading offshore.
Last week on Wednesday, they sent request to provide itinerary, I applied for another delay citing Christmas, difficulties sourcing flights and the complex COVID situation elsewhere, by Friday arvo I received a call, saying we're happy to refund your 2nd VAC and let you be, if you're not willing to go out.
Told to go to Singapore as transit passengers goes without saying how difficult and expensive it is at this time, looks like parents will be in quarantine through Christmas.
You should email Julian.hill.mp@aph.gov.au. He will be furious at this call you have had. He is taking up our case to be included in the Concession of not having to leave like the partners etc
maybe if you say you can get a flight just after Xmas so they won’t be In Quarantine over that period they may agree to that @KathyN has just done the Singapore trip.
it’s pure blackmail and discrimination

Yes onshore, currently on a bridging visa.
I’m the same supposedly 3 mths to leave. They said to someone today they could extend medical by 6mths and police checks by 3mths. So nearer the time(beg of Feb for be) I’m going to ask about this definitely fighting to stay longer

@Kathss56 Here's the response from Julian Hill.
Thanks for your email
It's not possible procedurally to include it in this Bill, however that's the next issue I'm looking at this week.
Kind regards
Julian
Yes! he is talking about the bill re partners etc today so after he gathers more info he will do ours.
He needs lots more parents to email him though. If you are on any other sites etc please promote this

The Minister who decides this is Alan.Tudge.MP@aph.gov.au
Can I ask you all to email him to ask that parent visas are included.
Why should we be discriminated against?
All we want is to be with our families.
Am emailing this reporter also

Are you onshore? If so please keep us informed as to what happens re WA parent centre communication, thanks

I have also emailed Alan Tudge.
Also Julian Hill has asked me to talk to the Sydney Morning Herald, I’m waiting for them to contact me. Surely if we keep the pressure on they will include parents in the concessions
I have also emailed Alan Tudge, had to rein myself in though!!

@Kathss56 This feels like an absolute kick in the guts. Why on earth would they be so blatantly discriminaotry? It's shocking. Like as if to say parents are like S*** and don't really matter.
If anyone it is the parents who are most vulnerable in the current COVID situation.
They have never been bothered about us parents sadly. Did you write to the MP he is bringing it up tues or Weds
3 minutes ago, KathyN said:This is terribly uncertain! Even if parents were included in this concession, they would still have to wait until "early 2021"??
Yes will def fight to stay longer !

Some visa categories do not now have to leaves Oz to get visa grant. BUT parent visas( eg 143 ) are NOT included in the list. No surprise there, feeling totally discriminated against!!

Yes he will, as you need this situation sorting prior to your grant

Might be of interest to those who are onshore and waiting to head offshore for the granting of a subclass 143 visa.
Maybe contact the Labor MP referenced in this article to have subclass 143 visa applicants included ?
Best regards.
