This is crazy, the government should step up and make some changes to avoid unnecessary travel for parents just to get stamps for their hard earned PR.

Am currently waiting to be booted out onto an unnecessary flight and a waste of hotel, quarantine place all for my visa to come through within minutes of passing through border force in Oz! Julian Hill MP is trying with a private members bill to try to change this rule temporarily for us 🤞

Bitten the bullet and booked return flights to Singapore in January. Very helpful guy from Parent visas rang to say he would facilitate the PR as soon as we passed through Australian departures and sort it out with border force so that we were allowed to board and would get both boarding passes, out and return. Says he has facilitated 4 others who have done this. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.

Are you just transiting through Singapore or staying over?
Did you have to fill in an air travel pass for Singapore ?
    thanks

For those onshore who have paid 2nd vac, has anyone looked into the possibility of flying into and out of NZ without staying ie transit only, like the Singapore solution but without having to quarantine at the Australian end?

NZ Not yet open to Oz, but they announced they will allow flights from March hopefully!

It’s the thought of trying to find somewhere to go for the three months out of Australia between 870s that could be the problem for some people.  Especially if they’ve sold their home etc.
Also the new queuing process for post 1July 2018  applications is only going to add to the wait.

Hopefully they will have relatives abroad. NZ for 3 months wouldnt be too bad it’s just the cost, as with everything else to do with this visa. 😐

However, based on current planning levels, we estimate new Contributory Parent visa applications lodged that meet the criteria to be queued are likely to take approximately at least 58 months to be released for final processing.

We are talking about parents here who aren't getting any younger unfortunately and these guys can't get their math right. They might as well just remove this statement altogether. No information is better than wrong information.

Would you consider the 870 temp parent visa. I would have gone for that had it been around for me

You don't think forcing people to fly out and then into a country with closed borders in the middle of a pandemic to get a rubber stamp is ridiculous? You don't think putting them at risk of catching Covid and potentially bringing it back to Australia is beyond stupid? Or a waste of money? Or a waste of a plane seat that is in short supply and stopping Australian's getting home? I don't think this is about a complaint, it's about the lack of common sense being applied!

Wholeheartedly agree. What about the poor lady who had one lung and gp said if she catches COVID she will most likely die. Thankfully after an MP intervened and she can stay until it is safe to fly. That’s all we are asking for. The partners category have been given this TEMPORARY  concession to stay onshore. We are simply asking the same. Partners can come and go but are classed as immediate family?? A parent is NOT classed as immediate family!!

Therefore not wasting a flight and quarantine place with  36000 Aussies still awaiting return, is just plain common sense ! Grants are issued within minutes of passing through border force!
Like I say we just want a temporary reprieve like others are being granted !
And no I don’t fancy paying nearly $9k, risk COVID , risk being stranded away from my family because many many flights being bumped.

It's funny how there is a bit of discrepency in some being given 3 months vs some being given 28 days to leave the country to activate the 143 visa. I wonder how and what drives this decision making on the case officers side.

In some cases the 3 months is given without requesing . Whilst in some you have to ask for it.

In the current scenario it should be 3 months for all by default. That's the least that they can do.

Maybe some just pay and don’t query it and just follow their “rules” they have offered some 6mths extension on medical and 3mths on police check. You have to ask if they don’t offer I presume

Is it for those of us whom have delayed once, they're saying you have to do it now? And for the ones that are just being requested - 3 months? To be fair, case officer who rang me told me they were not requesting us to leave within 28 days but to provide itinerary within 28 days, so we could still have bought tickets for say, Feb 2021...

Let’s us know how you get saying to them Feb departure for instance. Thanks

    Thanks for your info!

However I have contacted Singapore Airlines today and they seems to not knowing anything about this and said this is Embassy’s work 😞

You need to apply for Air travel pass on the Singapore gov website  a couple of weeks before landing, maybe see if you can apply for one of those to allow entry?? I’ve looked at it but not gone through all the form .

McGowens admins said it was a federal issue and pointed me to peter.dutton.mp@aph.gov.au I have yet to receive a response from Peter Dutton or Alan Trudge. Power in numbers, so if anyone is keen to write please do!

Thanks. Yep none of us who have written to Tudge have had a reply. Dutton is worse I’m afraid. Will just have to hope Julian Hill MP goes ahead with a private members bill for us

Just written to him, along with McGowen, Alan Trudge and Peter Dutton.

Time to treat parent as immediate family, be honest about waiting times and stop the crazy flights to nowhere.

I really like McGowan  but not sure he could help. If he does respond let me know and I will also write.

There is a petition on APH asking for parents  to be included, think this is from travel /visitor restrictions. It has been submitted with over 11000 signatures,  awaiting a response from APH

    Hi

I'm struggling to find a flight UK to Sydney (or Spain to Sydney), although I can see some Qatar flights that transit Adelaide or Perth.

Does anyone know if you can transit through these internal airports?

    Cheers

you would to read up those places. If you land in Perth as an international arrival , you have to do 2 weeks quarantine there then fly to Sydney

Hi My mum has been requested to leave Australia so as her 143 visa  can be granted. She is a UK citizen and given the current crisis in the UK, we were wondering if flying to another country is possible? Our fear is once she leave australia, not being able to return. My mum has booked a flight for next Tuesday to the UK  but is very hesitant to go. Would appreciate any info, not speculation and only facts.

@KathyN has just been to Singapore briefly. Perhaps she can help?.
