  1. I still buy mine and that of my children at M&S and I have been stocking up some to last me a while in Oz... However I get the view that some styles of their undies last longer than others....
  2. Bungo this website is fab!! I just checked it out....Thanks
  3. We have an amazone fire box which we currently use to access Netflix and Amazon prime in the kids chill out area we also have a Samsung smart TV purchased this year with access to catch up Tv. I'm I right in thinking that these will be worth bringing over?
  4. That's food for thought Marisawright I do drive and we intend to ship our car over so hopefully commuting will be manageable.
  5. i am really drawn to this town so much that I have made contact with one of the schools enquiring about enrolment requirements for my children. Like most people moving to OZ getting a job is a key factor. I am a social worker & currently commute 30 mins to my place of work. I used to commute 1hour each way till December 2015 when my child care arrangements fell through so I had to move closer to work. i prefer to live outside of the area where I practice so I am interested in towns within 30-40 mins away from Port Macquarie for my job search. With good enough transport links too. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
  6. Hi Kell TEG are really good especially if you are new to the whole process. We paid approx £3800 in 2013 when we started the process. This includes extras like document certification & relocationassistance/advice after visa is granted. we are a family of 4 I don't know your situation might be different so get in touch for a quote & compare with others if you are unsure.
  7. Hi Maria, It's a big life decision to make for anyone so it's understandable to feel up and down sometimes... You are not alone there. We are all set to apply for our 190 visa, we are using a migration agent & it's made the process less of a hustle for us. I am planning on posting a summary of our journey so far soon...
  8. very interesting post Maria...I am black & so is my hubby when we initially told friends here in the UK that we were thinking of making the move I got negative comments about people not being receptive & I still do. However I live in a village in Lincolnshire & we are the only black people here.... My attitude of not being bothered as to whether or not I look different to my neighbour next door has seen me through the many moves we have made being an ex army wife as well. However I am very protective of my children as I'm sure you are which is why you are searching for answers in advance. I choose schools for my children very carefully & I always ensure that I give them the opportunity to meet other ethnicities in school and socially. I have opted for some independent schools which have different ethnicities attending as well as Offering zero tolerance to bullying.... Being treated different is one of the issues that unless you have experienced it you will never appreciate the impact on an idividual and particularly a child. I attended a migration forum forum in Sheffield in 2013 and met with an Australian immigration rep who was promoting Melbourne and his advice to us was to look into Melbourne because it was more multicultural. It might be worth looking into areas in Oz with a more established multicultural society which will minimise being seen as different.... All the best..
  9. With posts like this I am so glad to be on this forum. Shipping is another worry I had but having seen your photos I am confident that we can manage . Thank you kevsan
  10. I hope it's ok to suggest suburbs of interest from us who are researching areas and have never been to Oz before... if so I will be interested in Port Macquerie and Armidale Thank you
  11. I will start my job hunting when we have our visas as I believe we have 10 months to activate the visa. At the moment I browse jobs on adzuna & Seek just to familiarise myself with the job hunting process. i think I will definitely be looking at taking the first best offer I get to settle in before I concentrate on my preferred service area. Best of Luck to all of us hoping to make the move soon
  12. i have been following your post to see if any leads have come up on the possibility of relocation packages. We have been accepted for state sponsorship for NSW and will be putting in our visa application soon. Just wanted to ask if relocation package means commitment for a length of time and what that might be like ? Also I get that social workers jobs are offered to psycologists etc ... Can anyone tell me if in thier experience or knowledge this affects landing a good role? I currently work in Child protection and I am hoping to land a similar role. Any idea if this will be a possibility in NSW or OZ in general without OZ work experience ? Thanks
  13. Hi Chlooe 19 here in the Uk I know of people who work in social care related jobs such as a Child protection coordinator in a school /pastoral care officers and study for the degree partime which takes 4years. Others worked in a children's home which offered flexibility due to shif working patterns. I completed my 3 year full time degree working shifts in such a setting. If working with adults is your goal then working in a home for the elderly could offer you experience, an income and flexibility to study too. Good luck with your training
  14. Thanks Northshorepom ..... the areas you suggest have come up during my search and I must say I am not fussy at all.. So long as I don't live in a busy city I am cool. I am hoping to eventually work for the local authority as I do so now in England however I don't mind work through agencies or private sector to start off with. I made contact with an employment agency a while back and I was informed that it's a straight forward transition for social work. it's just a case of being offered the right job when needed. Hubby on the other handworks with a company with several branches in Oz and is hoping to be transferred when we are ready. He has been informed that he will need to get a licence which will take approx 12 weeks to get in Oz. If he is offered a transfer then trade licence will be sorted while he earns an income if not then I hope to be working while he is training. due to having kids of school age i will be drawn to areas with good schools and even consider independent schools.
  15. Congratulation Shargreaves!! We received State sponsorship from NSW on Friday it only took 10 working days to get our 5 points. We now have 60 points.. NSW was not our original choice either as we originally wanted to Emigrate to Melbourne however we believe that what is meant to be will be. We have 2 young children ages 10 & 8 and I have started looking into towns outside of Sidney as we are not city birds at all. I am a Social worker and my Hubby is a Refigeration & Air con engineer and I am hoping that finding jobs outside of Sidney will not be a problem. I will be interested in suggestions other members provide on suburbs, schooling etc.. All the best
  16. Hi all we submitted our EOI on the 20th of January for NSW (190) and received an invitation today!! # So excited... Good luck to you all

    schooling

Thanks all for this thread which I read with interest !! my daughter is in a similar age and school year. She will start year 6 in September 2016. Our aim is to move to OZ in time for her to have at least one term in primary before she starts secondary. We are looking at arriving in ACT at the moment and hope to apply for the 190 in April this year. i have worked out that if we leave the Uk in July next year she will have finished year 6 and will repeat the last time in year 6 with her peers in OZ am I right? can anyone advise me on the school structure in ACT? do we have to pay fees there as well ? Does the school year run from January? Thanks
  20. Hi The Smith Clan i am a social worker ( child protection) I am looking to apply for the 190 this year. That option means you apply for state sponsorship. I am not sure about employer sponsorship for SW but i hope you get some good advice here.. Is there a reason why you don't want to try any of the PR visas types as they appear to have long term benefits.
  21. I am having my skills assessed by AASW first. My hubby and I intend to apply for the 190 visa before we search for Jobs. The migration agents charge a fair amount but when we started thinking of emigrating we felt it was ideal to employ their services cos we were overwhelmed with the amount of info available. However I feel that our research into what needs to be done would have also pointed us in the right direction too. That said they have been very handy and will be very valuable when we reach the Visa application stage. this is my opinion only ... we have decided to secure a visa first before a job as we have two young children and believe it is best to enter on a permanent visa to save messing about with employer sponsorship which may affect our visa if either of us decide to quit the job early.
  22. Hi i am also a social worker and I am using the emigration group. What would you like to know.
