  1. You also need to be aware that some visitor visas carry mandatory condition saying no further stay which means you can’t apply for any other visas. It will be interesting to see whether the senate enquiry report due in November recommends putting that condition on all visas!!
  2. Note you said staying on BVB - BVB ends when you return to Australia
  3. AOS isn’t paid until requested towards end of processing. Even then when all other ducks are in place (Medicals police clearances etc, it could still take a year for final grant. 864 is in the same queue as. 143 so taking a long time Also you can leave on BVB even though borders are closed but you wouldn’t get back in !
  4. It’s individual so that means couples will show as two in the queue. The 64 months relates to those actually being processed so currently May 2016 which it’s been stuck on for well over a year now! Sadly I’ve seen a post on social Media where the poster shares a letter from their agent who has had FOI info from immi. It says June 2016 should hopefully by processed by end of this year (which implies that may be the end of this quota) but July 2016 applicants are not expected to receive grants until into next years quota
  5. You need to speak to an agent. Believe BVE is only given in certain circumstances
  6. Also saw this - good guide to potential wait times , given the current annual quota is only 3600! https://www.gm-parent-visas.com/contributory-parent-visa-application-numbers-updated/
  7. Also saw this - good guide to trying to work out potential wait times https://www.gm-parent-visas.com/contributory-parent-visa-application-numbers-updated/
  8. Which contributory visa have you applied for and when? Does the visitor visa have condition 8503 on it - No further stay? When did you arrive in Australia?
  9. Something to be very aware of ! https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/sep/15/airlines-warn-nsw-may-reopen-to-international-travel-but-with-few-planes-to-service-huge-demand It particularly mentions Singapore Airlines Singapore Airlines confirmed it would be further cutting the number of flights flying into Australia, blaming a lack of certainty over plans to lift passenger caps for the move which will see dozens of flights cancelled before the Christmas period.

  11. No I’m really sorry I don’t know much (yet! ) about Australian private health insurance other than bupa! Hopefully someone can advise further.
  12. Welcome back! Not sure if you know but there have been some changes in 143 since June 2018. You’ll get an acknowledgement in next few weeks and then in another 2-3 years they will check your application is valid if not they’ll ask for further info. Once validated you will be given a queue date - which will be the date they validated it so a queue date 2-3 years later than application date. Before 1/6/18 the application date was the queue date but now it’s a date 2-3 years after application. Yes it will be a long queue. There were 60000 application already lodged by end Sept 2020 so many more since then and the annual quota has dropped to 3600. Once borders open your dad could apply for a 5 year 870 visa which would allow him to wait onshore but it’s expensive and has to have private health insurance. After 5 years he would have to leave and wait offshore for 3 months before he could apply for another 5 year visa. The maximum time spent in Australia is limited to 10 years and sadly even 2 x 870 might not be enough to wait till grant of 143! ! Good luck!
  13. Yes. I’ve already been waiting over 4 years. In May /June 2017 there were 9000 applications. So just those two months alone will take around 2.5 years to get through on the current 3600 quota. @Alan Collett is an agent who is very helpful on this forum and you can download his chart on the application numbers https://www.gm-parent-visas.com/contributory-parent-visa-application-numbers/
  14. This is true for those who applied before 1 June 2018. They have their queue date as date of application. Those who applied after that will be contacted 2-3 years after application and if it’s valid will be given a queue date of the date they checked the application - so a queue date 2-3 years later than original application date @Fliss G don't go by the processing time on the website of approximately 5 years. It’s going to be much later than that. That is for those they are currently processing ie May 2016 - and they’ve been processing those since June 2020!! Realistically you are looking at well over 10 years. There are over 60000 already waiting in the queue and only 3600 are allowed every year.
  15. Oh good you found it! Im not sure why they would take the Oz aged pension into account as it is means tested so not every migrant would be entitled to it. Also one of their recommendations was to get rid of 804 or at least make it very difficult to get. It’s a non contributory visa therefore in proportion to the cost of application (c $6000 ?) it costs Australia far more in medical and aged care in those who get it, unlike contributory visas where there’s a large sum paid which goes towards their future Medicare costs. If they reduce the 804 that would save them money. They have in fact tried to get rid of it a few years ago.
  16. @Poonam Sharma, @Juniperthank you both for your kind comments. I’m very touched by everybody’s kindness. The long isolation here was made bearable (sometimes) by coming on this forum and trying to help people or explain what seemed to be happening as I saw it - lots of time to think about things! I also spent time reading up on as much as I could find about Australia and its visa system, firstly for my own benefit and then the realisation I could pass this information on. I certainly don’t claim to “know it all” and am always open to being corrected but if I can help then I will do so!
  17. Yes if you can find a very scarce and expensive flight and pay for 2 weeks quarantine. The caps for entry into Australia have been halved in recent weeks.
  18. Have you looked at the Productivity Review for 2016? . I haven’t got it bookmarked sorry but I think if you type that in and preface it with Australia it should get you there. There are reviews of all visas , seem to remember parents being near the end. It explains about the costs of the visas to Australian tax payer and makes various recommendations - two of which they have already carried out - the temporary 870 visa and the cut in quota.
  19. Thank you @Marisa I do appreciate that. I do try to think logically normally! I’m trying to keep the old brain from deteriorating too much. I won’t be going over to the thread about Covid. I just want to enjoy the relative normality I’m starting to have here and meeting up with my friends. It’s been a very long and hard 20 months.
  20. Thank you - I do appreciate your post. As I said above in my reply to @Tulip1 I will stay but will probably not post so much for a while until we all settle down back into the rhythm of a parent visa forum.
  21. I actually saw your post just as I was about to switch off notifications and leave. Thank you for your kind words. It’s a fact of life I suppose that people can misinterpret things that have been said which sometimes escalates. I’ve no wish to cause problems. Life is hard enough at times for all of us. “Celebrating” my 70th birthday a few months ago on my own during lockdown wasn’t easy although I appreciate there are so many in the same boat. Hopefully I can have a 70+1 celebration next year!! I do agree most of us on here try to help and support each other, to keep us going during the long wait. I’m getting on with life and starting to go out more although I still wear my masks! I won’t leave then but I will keep a low profile for a while till the dust settles. Thank you again it’s very much appreciated.
  22. Please tell me exactly where I said to let Covid rip through Australia as it’s not that bad??? Did not say anything like that. I said quite categorically that Australia wasted its border closure because it didn’t use the time to vaccinate, didn't buy enough vaccine and rubbished the AZ leading to hesitancy to get vaccinated and I still stand by that. . Like Alan Collett and some other forum members I was querying the numbers quoted as dying through Covid. UK and probably Australia too sadly lose many people to flu every year and have done for many many years - I was pointing out that it’s not reported daily although we are all aware of it and queue up in our millions to get our flu jabs every year. I didn’t want those deaths reported as Covid deaths when they weren’t. You have misinterpreted what I said. . How can you say I don’t care when I know people who have died and people whose mental health has deteriorated during the lockdowns which were far harder than the current ones in Australia. I was told to go into isolation two weeks before rest of UK did by my consultant who was aware of this “new disease”. I live alone with no family nearby so that was extremely hard. Everything shut down apart from supermarkets , even certain aisles in the supermarket were roped off and covered over in plastic as they weren’t considered essential goods..I had to wait up till 3am to be able to get an online delivery slot for my food. 68 million people - an entire country - went through those lockdowns. I mentioned that deaths are likely to rise in UK this winter because of the flu and the inability to access medical attention because last year as rightly pointed out we were in lockdown for a very long time therefore there wasn’t a lot of flu around and experts are now telling us that flu and respiratory illnesses will rise this winter - what I was saying was they should not be counted as covid deaths. Public Health England is looking into how it’s been misreported Because of what I’ve been through I’m extremely concerned now for my family over there because Delta has finally got into Australia - and no country where it’s got in has managed to stop it as it’s so virulent but I truly hope Australia doesn’t suffer like the rest of the world has, although the cases and deaths are now sadly rising. I think it’s likely I will not travel to Australia again now nor would I expect my family to travel to see me during these times, that’s going to be very hard for me as it will be for so many others in both countries I’ve no wish for a free for all to develop on this forum - I’ve mostly tried to help people when I’ve posted - so I’m taking a break and wish all those waiting for their visas good luck.
