  1. You’re very welcome! . Your parents and I seem to have applied around the same time. Hopefully next year a five year 870 may be enough - or maybe by some miracle they will increase the quota after the senate report. We just have to live our lives as best we can and not be consumed with waiting because that’s a waste of your life ! Good luck.
  2. Yes it will settle eventually - just wait till next March and see if things become clearer. The whole world is upside down because of the pandemic. There’s also an election due - people can make some noise about visas then I guess We are actually lucky in that Australia still allows parent visas - quite a few countries don’t. Even UK - which sometimes seemed to let almost everybody in - has only got a very restrictive parent visa. 30 years ago I did a one year course in business management after being a stay at home parent for many years - I did have a degree but felt my skills needed updating on return to employment. At that time we were discussing what was then called a “demographic timebomb”! This was a discussion around the fact that within a few years the world would have a rapidly ageing population and what steps should be taken in light of that. Every govt shoved it under the carpet! And every country is now seeing the problems - sadly too late. So although Im stuck in the queue too I do realise the problems - not that it makes the wait any easier! Im sure once you see your parents the last two years will seem to have gone quickly once you all get a big hug!! Chin up!!
  3. Partners are young people who will work and pay taxes and have children to create a younger population - not old people who will cost Australia a lot of money as they age! I totally get your frustration as I’m actually a parent who’s been waiting for 143 since June 2017 and my daughter in Australia is equally frustrated, but I feel you do need to accept the reality of the situation. The current senate enquiry in parent visa backlog due to report next March also includes problems with partner visas - so it’s obvious there’s still ongoing problems with partners as well. Australia needs to rebuild after the pandemic. It’s also having problems with not enough workers after those young people with temporary visas and working holiday visas went home when the borders closed as there was no support for them, so any increase in migration levels is expected to be for young people.
  4. Think it’s included in Queensland. . Legally - reciprocal Medicare only covers the following, despite what people seem to think it covers
  5. If from UK they will get reciprocal health Medicare - go to Centrelink with passport and complete the form they give you. Once they get PR it’s obviously full Medicare as only PR and citizens get full Medicare. Reciprocal doesn’t cover everything just essentials so no cover for ambulance dentist etc and is more restrictive on pre existing conditions. The website for 600 says If we grant you a visa that is valid for more than 12 months you might be able to enter Australia multiple times while the visa is valid. You can’t stay in Australia for more than 12 months in total in any 18 month period. You must also have made adequate arrangements for health insurance.
  6. 143 was only introduced because 103 non contributory queue reached similar numbers of applicants as 143 has now. It was introduced because people were told if they’d paid they would get their visas a lot quicker. I think the explosion in applications wasn’t what they thought it would be hence the review in 2016. NZ actually stopped its parent visas for a few years due to too many applications! When it was reintroduced I believe it was only by invitation to keep the numbers down ie they picked and chose from the queue before offering invitations to apply rather than going on date order. Every country in the world is facing an expensive ageing population so are reluctant to add any more. UK does not even offer a parent visa anymore unless in extreme circumstances. A lot of applicants are younger than 60s and 70s - they applied for 143 thinking they would be able to work once they migrated. The main problem is the statement made on the website that processing takes 64 months - it showed 18-24 months when I applied! . Like many I assumed that meant the length of time I had to wait when in fact it only means it’s taken that much time for the ones they are actually processing now. The review in 2016 suggested that the charges for 143 be increased. That led to a huge surge in applications in May and June 2017 before the prospective increase in July 2017 as July is the start of the new financial year and new quota. 9000 applied in those two months alone meaning on present quota it will take 2.5 years just to get through those two months! Thus pushing all the following applications back. People are still applying now without being aware of the true wait time. The annual Parent quota is actually 4500, 3600 for contributory and 900 for non contributory and other family such as last remaining relative Those 900 are looking at a wait time of 30-50 years!!
  7. You don’t qualify for Medicare on 600 visa. You may get some reciprocal health care if you come from one of 11 countries - mostly in Europe
  8. Im afraid it’s not temporary and nothing to do with Covid, the reduction in numbers started well before Covid hit There was a Review back in 2016. It had 4 recommendations 1 Reduce quota of contributory visas (actioned) 2 Introduce long term temporary parent visa (actioned) 3 Get rid of 804 except for extremely restrictive compassionate reasons 4.Increase fees for contributory visas Thr first two have actually happened so it’s likely the next two are being looked at again during this current review They have worked out that each older parent will cost the Australian taxpayer around $410,000 (!) during their lifetime so $43600 for 143 second charge goes nowhere near! That’s why Australia doesn’t want older parents. I’m just hoping that if they increase the charges it’s not retrospective!
  9. As this is a parent visa forum I don’t know the answer to that sorry
  10. It’s going to take around 18 years for grant. 66000 already in queue and only 3600 grants per year!
  11. Why not apply straight for 143? If you apply for 173 it will take the same amount of time as 143. Then you would have to wait again to get the 143 so it will take longer and cost more. New applications for either are likely to take nearly 18 years! 66k are already waiting in the queue and only 3600 granted per year. So it’s highly unlikely that 2 x 870 (10 years) would be enough for your parents to stay in Australia till grant of visa. Best to go straight for 143 - you will have plenty of time to save up for that. To apply for 173 or 143 you need to be PR and have been in Australia for two years. For 870 you need to be PR and settled for 4 years and earn 84k and parents will need private health insurance otherwise as sponsor you will be liable for all Medicare they use
  12. Oh I see - is this something new? I wasn’t asked for my sisters passport details when I applied
  13. Think you need a form to fill in. Google for it. How old is your sister? I only ask because if you’ve only put your application in this year there’s potentially a waiting list of around 18 years! As a dependant your sister would not be considered as such once she reached the age of 23
  14. To be honest I’m not really hopeful. The last review they did in 2016 made 4 recommendations. 1. introduce long term temporary parent visa 2. reduce the annual quota 3. increase the charge for contributory visas 4. stop 804 except for compelling and compassionate reasons The first two have already taken place! Australia (like countries worldwide) is having to cope with an ageing population - and doesn’t really want to take many more in
  15. Yes it’s only approximate as it gives monthly totals so I guess it’s where you are in that particular month. May and June 2017 in particular had huge numbers of applications
  16. You can get a rough idea of how many years left to wait. Count how many are in front of you and divide by annual quota of 3600 https://www.gm-parent-visas.com/contributory-parent-visa-application-numbers-updated/
  17. Honestly - WHAT???? I don’t believe this ! Postponed to March 2022!,
  18. @Tulip1 I think it’s only 600 visa that you can use - not sure though - but would make sense as they can put No further stay clause on that one. Hopefully someone who applies can let us all know. I’m not applying yet as my daughter will be coming home in a few months as she wants to see all the family. I’m not sure if all airlines say you have to be fully vaccinated? I know you don’t have to quarantine in Australia if fully vaccinated but at present think it’s only NSW and VIC
  19. Full details of evidence required for immediate family exemption for parents and link to apply for exemption here https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/immediate-family-australian-citizens-or-permanent-residents-or-new-zealand-citizens-usually-resident-australia
  20. And given the potential explosion in the numbers switching to 804 and the length of the queue I hardly think Australia will be keen on dishing out medical visas to them all when/if they fail the medical at an advanced age!
  21. The medical visa ( If that is what is referred to ) is not a permanent visa
  22. Quite a few of the submissions to the senate enquiry made mention of the unfairness of non contributory 804 allowing people to remain in Australia on bridging visas whereas people paying large sums for contributory visas had to wait offshore
  23. Well they don’t actually have to stop it per se - they just have to put a “no further stay” on the entry visa to prevent any onshore application! Or perhaps more likely, they could take away all reciprocal health care from 804/864 so that people will have to pay towards their health care costs?? That would cause many to think again if they realised they had to pay for their healthcare or pay for private health insurance. Reciprocal could be kept for temporary visits eg 651 but not for long stay.
  24. I’m guessing that as they’re both classed as temporary visas the last one to be granted will overrule the first one?
