  1. You could try Gosford area, not far to coast and lots if lovely areas to live if you go north of Gosford you will find cheaper house prices especially inland, depends what your budget is and whether you are preparedto live in a new development. Good luck!
  2. Really sorry to hear your news after all this time waiting, it must be difficult when marriages break up and the children are seen as being fully one parents responsibility rather than shared. I hope you manage to resolve this quickly and move on, at least you now know what caused the delay.
  3. We were with family in Australia when our agent was contacted by immi, for people in Australia they advised we had 28 days to leave the country and to send scanned copy of departure details (flight reservations) within 7 days.
  4. Hi KathSs56, that’s depressing news that they are reducing the numbers of visas allocated this year, I wonder if they are going to continue dropping them in future years which will make the wait time much longer, I feel for all that are waiting having paid money and now might have to wait longer. It is all political unfortunately.
  5. You can arrange a private viewing with an agent and the open to views on Saturdays usually run a few weeks as the early ones are often to assess what buyers think it is worth before they put a price on it, in fact if you are on an agents list they may invite you to an early viewing before on the market where only a couple of people view it and if a bid is offered that is acceptable it might be accepted it depends on the sellers circumstances. So don’t worry you will usually get more than 30 mins. I do know what you mean about houses too big for tbe block (plot) they seem to build almost up to the boundary fence even when it is a self build, which is partly why we went for an existing property that is on a decent sized block so we don’t feel so enclosed. Good luck.
  6. Hi Susieroo, having just gone through several months of going to open days (central coast NSW) you do not meet the owners. We looked before we had our residency to get an idea of areas and prices and have now bought, we have not met the owners so not had the opportunity to discuss anything. It is very much ‘buyer beware’ here in that people do extensions but having got planning permission don’t get it ‘signed off’ and council offices records are poor. When we said to our conveyancer we wouldn’t be able to get insurance in the UK in those circumstances we were told many people don’t have insurance in Australia! We had seven days from signing reservation contract with small deposit to get surveyors, pest inspectors, round (which only give a little reassurance as they can not lift carpets/flooring etc and cover themselves for anything they might not have spotted). We then had to pay balance of deposit (non returnable) and completion is usually 42 days from then. We found the estate agent very helpful, we had met several times at other open house days (which incidentally are only open for 30 mins on a Saturday so it is often a mad charge round from one property to another). We had put in an offer for our house within the price guide given, and had it accepted but before we got to conveyancer to sign the contract another offer came in which the agent had to inform the seller of. We then had a best offer by noon situation which we fortunately won but at quite a bit more money. Sellers here do not have a document to complete like in the UK which discloses who owns boundaries, whether there have been disputes, whether anything has guarantees, has it been re-wired, etc etc - it is all done pretty quick but seems to us rather risky. I don’t know if it is different in other states. I know you were also interested in buying land or a new build, we had thought of doing this but blocks that came on the market were either extremely steep, heavily wooded (which we would not have been allowed to remove) or very narrow. The ones with a new build package were not in areas we wanted to live and on huge housing estates with little space between the houses although some had nice interiors it depends what you want. You may have much more luck where you are aiming for but here in central coast many Sydney-siders are moving to the area for better quality of life and more affordable housing which has pushed up demand and prices. Good luck with it all, you are right to research as much as you can.
  7. I believe you can buy a block of land or a property not previously lived in.
  8. The other frustrating thing about the wait is that house prices have rocketed in Oz in the last three years, sometimes 40% and I fear some people who have properties in the UK outside London will find they can no longer afford to buy in Oz. On top of which the cost of living is also high (although petrol is cheaper). We are one of the lucky ones got visa and bought house but could be several months before we move in due to renovating. I hope things improve for all those of you still waiting and I agree it would be much better if an idea of how many applicants were in front of you were given, even if some of those don’t get granted.
  9. Congrats Gafuk - your patience has certainly been put to the test, wonderful news! Enjoy!
  10. Yes, but if you read back a few pages you will see there is a lot of discussion on this, see in particular Alan Colletts comments, he is a very helpful agent who contributes on here.
  11. If your parents are offshore then it should be approx as little as a week or two of them receiving funds. As we were onshore on a 12 month visa we had to supply a copy of our travel plans and it was granted the same day we flew to Fiji.
  12. Firstly so happy to hear your good news at last. Re moving money over we have used Halo and still are as we keep moving chunks when the exchange rate is good. Have a happy and healthy life in Perth.
  13. Congratulations to you and your parents! I hope they don’t have long to wait for their visas.
  14. It shouldn’t be long for you now, hang on in there, could even be tomorrow!
  15. Arrived in Fiji for holiday yesterday and Visa granted same day !!! Can’t quite believe it after almost three years Good luck to everyone else waiting hope yours isn’t much longer Pertenhall.
  16. Enjoy your time with your baby grandson Kath, precious times, time will pass quickly for you now you havesold your house. Good luck I hope it all works out fir you.We are looking forward to buying somewhere to live although it is depressing how prices have gone up in the last three years.
  17. It doesn’t mention one but we have an agent with an account that allows them to do transfer.
  18. Hi Tina, It asks bank cheque to be sent registered, or payment by credit card where you have to send a completed credit card form to the Parent visa centre. It also asks that you contact your bank to arrange the release of the amount of the 2nd visa application charge and credit card surcharge.
  19. Hi Tina, I don’t know the answer to that perhaps an agent would know.
  20. Hi Ian, will know better after tomorrow, we had thought of going to NZ but think the weather might be too cold and wet now, we went to Bali in November so it might be Fiji this time depends on availability with Easter coming up.
  21. Hi Tina, we didn’t the correspondence says pvc team, I think it is onshore visas that maybe get allocated a case officer, if you look at immi site you will see there is a difference in wording. Are you applying for 143 visa from UK as we did? Good luck it won’t be long now so don’t stress about waiting for a case officer.
  22. Congratulations Ian we too had message from our agent yesterday asking for second VAC , we are off to the travel agent! as we are in Australia at the moment on the 12 month visa we have to leave to activate it once payment received .
  23. I think they say they are assessing up to that date it doesn’t mean the visa will be completed by then, I guess people who have an eatlier date but don’t yet have their AOS acceptance or other docs hold up the queue ? Or maybe some staff members are more efficient than others? All we can do is wait, after all we have had plenty of practise in this waiting room it is definitely getting crowded and time for a shuffle up - hold open that door..
