  1. The British heatwave summer of 1976 was a nice proper summer. "For 15 consecutive days from 23 June 1976 to 7 July 1976, temperatures reached 32.2 °C (90°F) somewhere in England each day. Furthermore, five days saw temperatures exceed 35°C (95°F)". I remember it with much fondness.
  2. Saw these today Jobs: Free Accommodation: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/manly/other-hospitality/night-manager-wanted/1086943763 Free Accommodation: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/manly/other-hospitality/receptionist-for-backpackers-in-manly/1093854430 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/waterloo/bar-staff/barperson-required/1093994221 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/haymarket/housekeeping/full-time-housekeeping-position-maze-backpackers-/1093952591 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/warriewood/transport-logistics/backpacker-warehouse-work-northern-beaches-sydney/1091586095 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/sydney-city/sales-marketing/flyer-distribution-backpackers-students-welcome-/1093128641 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/redfern/retail/sign-holder/1094270456 etc... Seems to be loads of jobs out there Stacey; especially in lead up to Christmas.
  3. You could rent a room in a flat share for about the same or less. Wow. Things have certainly changed since my WHV when it was $10.00 per night. http://au.easyroommate.com/sydney-share-accommodation/beautiful-house/h08092624713532
  4. Yes wrong choice of words I will admit.
  5. Then just stay in a backpackers then! When I was working in Sydney, I stayed in a three bunk dorm (6 people) for five months and it was fine. I got paid $500.00 per week and I worked in a shop as a retail assistant. Of that, $70.00 went on hostel accommodation and $130.00 went on food, beer, cigarettes, sightseeing / generally enjoying myself etc.... Then the remaining $300.00 got saved for my later travels.
  6. True. But you could potentially get a very gorgeous rental house if you play your cards right. Just up the road from me, a five bedroomed state-of-the-art modern house with pool and spa ($1,250.00 per week rent), over looking the beach, has just been rented by a group of five backpackers. And to live in such luxury they are only paying $250.00 each. Lucky buggers.
  7. Gawd you are so lucky Stacey What a truly glorious spring morning and I am stuck at work:no: You on the other hand are foot loose and fancy free to indulge in the delights of Sydney
  8. The pubs can get a bit rowdy on a Friday and Saturday night. But otherwise it is a nice suburb. Great cafes and nice beach. I think there is an aquarium there too. http://www.hellomanly.com.au/ Terrible to find a parking spot though - so best to get the ferry there from circular quay
  9. I would see a doctor just to check the damage. Also go to The Health Emporium in Bondi or even better still ring them first to ensure they have stock http://www.healthemporium.com.au/ Or any other similar health & vitamin shop. Even some chemists will sell it. And buy some Arnica Cream It is the best and quickest way to heal up a sprain and bruising I use the Martin and Pleasance range because it has a high potency herb concentration. Should cost you about $5 - $10 for a small tub. It is a great addition to your travelling first aid kit.
  10. If you can afford it........nice place to relax. Great for asthma: http://www.saltrooms.com.au/
  11. Most people save money when they work.... whilst having a bloody excellent time in Sydney to boot. It is only as expensive as you make it. You can have good time here on next to nothing; if you use your brains. You need to find work. Give it at least 6-12 weeks in Sydney actively looking for work everyday before moving on. Have you been to any of those places (jobs) that Maryrose has posted yet? Stop getting taxis everywhere and you will be fine!
  12. Vast quantities of the amber nectar usually works well I have found.
  13. You could always go "Dumpster Diving". Not my cup-of-tea......as really too lazy to do something so energetic. But you could potentially save a fortune with free food every week.
  14. Oh. I was confusing it with Coon as in Coon cheese!
  15. There are hundreds of nice suburbs in Sydney. Depends what you like? If you like swimming and surfing then choose a beach suburb. If you like bushwalking then choose an outer suburb near a national park or the Blue Mountains. If you like the cafe scene then choose inner city. What do you like to do in your downtime?
  16. :happy_face_mummy_go If you want to drink cheaper Stacey then most bars - especially backpacker bars - have something called Happy Hour Drinks are normally half priced or really cheap during HH. Or sometimes you can get free food during HH, if you buy a beer and so on https://www.thehappiesthour.com/ https://www.thehappiesthour.com/specials/sydney/city/sunday/beer/?source=hp There was a Kings X bar that I and every backpacker from miles around use to descend on from 5pm - 6pm each night. For one hour each night they had really cheap jugs of beer on sale, along with free nachos served with guacamole, sour cream and melted cheese. It was great. And some bars have HH actually lasting two hours which makes no sense but who is complaining! So if you want to have a drink - then save money and only drink during HH.
  17. Maryrose. I have just seen a book that may interest and assist you on your endeavor: http://www.booktopia.com.au/wild-swimming-sydney-australia-sally-tertini/prod9781910636046.html Wild Swimming Sydney by Sally Tertini and Steve Pollard. There is a feature on it in Australian Natural Health magazine (Dec 2015 - Jan 2016)
  18. That was the other place I was thinking; but could not remember the suburb name. Is it the same place as Blues Point?
  19. Err that is exactly what 22C is like in Australia too (i.e.) a very pleasant warm day
  20. Well according to amibovered and the Daily Express.......winter is coming and for the worst by the sounds of it.
  21. . Don't they say that every year almost Better get your thermal willy warmers out of storage then! Love how the media hype things up to doom and gloom. Last week in Sydney you would have thought armageddon was here weather-wise with a monster of all storms on the way last Tuesday: tornadoes, lashing rain, gale force winds, hailstones the size of gold balls etc.....warning people to stay inside. Nothing happened.
  22. Well that is true. Some of the questions were just a joke really they were that easy or basic common sense. BUT the law related ones I had; I found really quite hard. Got five of them wrong.
  23. Fairly easy I should think. Many places have a shortage of nurses. Especially more remote or country areas who seem to be crying out for decent nurses and doctors. Failing finding work in a hospital there are plenty of nursing homes that need RN's. Having said that: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-05-24/thousands-of-nursing-graduates-unable-to-find-work/5475320
