  1. I agree, we listened to the whole speech and nothing was directed at Immigration. Peter Dutton was sat there with a inscrutable smile and who knows what will come out in the next few weeks. On a separate related note, Peter Dutton is reported to be very close to welcoming South African farmers with a quoted figure of I believe, 10,000 potential places. How this will affect the overall Immigration numbers is anyone's guess and if some sectors will face a cut or this will be an addition.
  2. Absolutely Ali, Happy to oblige, now I can get back to the budget and Master Chef [emoji3]
  3. I have no problems whatsoever, just replying to people who comment on my posts. However, thank you for taking the time to post off topic, telling me not to do what you are doing.
  4. Ireland, India, Africa, America,Canada,Australia..... Oh and the Windrush generation....us Brits have shown the hand of friendship alright ,normally with the other hand wrapped round someone's throat.
  5. Nope, I've read and re read my post and nowhere do I mention the AOS situation, however, let me give you an alternative view. There will be plenty of people on this forum and sitting in the visa queue that are pleased that the income level and bond has been increased. Why?, because it increases their chances of advancing faster towards a visa at the expense of others. As a neighbour of mine once said, "It's only expensive if you can't afford it" Trust me, I'm not extracting the urine.
  6. Breaking news. Daily Mail in colour , so it must be true. Dependent over the age stipulated in Australian Immigration Rules, can be any age and ignore the laid down procedure providing :- A. They don't post every 30 secs on a forum, meaning more sane minded people think something important has happened. B. They consult with a professional agent. C. They accept a hot topic constitutes more than the same two people posting the same questions. signed Donald Trump's -truth office Peter Dutton's -As if I care office
  7. Providing your visa conditions allow it, you can apply for an extension online whilst your in Australia. You must have sufficient time left on your current visa to allow for the application to go through. Whether anyone has received this I can't find out, perhaps someone on the forum knows. The other thing to consider is that once you leave Australia and are not allowed back in until you have a new visa, your travel options are limited. No country will allow you to enter the country on a one way ticket unless you have the right to remain there. I.e. You can't fly to Bali on a one way ticket to apply for a new visa and you can't book a return ticket back to Australia unless you have a visa to enter. The airlines check this when you check in as they are the ones who get fined. You can of course have a flexible ticket so that you stop in Bali and have the next leg to another country. You then cancel that return and rebook to another destination I.e. Australia when you get the next visa. It is obviously fraught with problems as to timings and whether you get another visa and it's also very expensive. Today a one way flight back to the UK is about $1000 and if you are a Brit this is probably the least stressful way. I would be very happy for someone to prove me wrong with the travel issues because if our application to extend our 600 fails the travel conundrum kicks in for us.
  8. Brilliant can I have the name of the official you spoke to because I'd like to pay that much as well [emoji3][emoji3]. You will be paying 43600 plus 10,000 for your AOS bond. Don't believe me, go on the immigration site and do the visa cost checker. Bridgie

  12. Apologies, only just seen this reply. We are renting until we receive our PR'S. There is a lot of expense to buying and possibly having to sell a house before you are resident. Just our choice, others have approached it differently. Bridgie Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  13. Now realise this is in the wrong section, Admin please move if you want. In my defence I was very tired yesterday, however, today with 364 days to go before the next visa needed I can live with it. Spring starts next week in Australia and i'm hoping someone will turn up the heat a bit in Victoria..................Jeez It's cold.
  14. Hi one and all, Thought i'd give an up to date account of obtaining the second year on our 600 visa. Like many of us we were given a multi entry 600 visa for one year (with a year starting from the date of each entry) and although in essence it should be straightforward to stretch this to a second year we were very nervous doing this. Our current 600 visa runs out on the 30th August. We left Melbourne Friday afternoon and returned early Sunday 27th morning filled with trepidation. There were no problems, no questions, no hold ups. if you are thinking of doing it,,, do it. For the record we flew from Melbourne to Christchurch with hand luggage only. Arrived midnight NZ time and stayed at the Commodore Airport Hotel which has a free 24 hour shuttle. The hotel was fantastic, it must be good because NASA and the American Antarctic Survey Dept, use this hotel as a base before they fly "Even further down underer". The hotel give you a free bus pass to get into Christchurch and the bus stop is outside the hotel. Christchurch Airport opens 4am and we caught a 6am flight back to melbourne arriving back at 8.10am. The hotel has a good restaurant, pool, gym. The shuttle is about a 5mins journey from the airport. Coming back to Australia we were convinced we would be stopped by immigration at every stage but, we sailed through automatic passport control, past the beedy eyes of the Immigration officers, through customs (The arrival card you fill out says i am a tourist staying for......in our case 1year) The officer flicked through it and because we had nothing to declared waved us straight through. Massive relief to get another year. If your 600 visa has the facility for multi entry, you will be able to use this method to extend the period granted. Make sure that you return to Oz before the final date of entry stated on your visa. If you are a Brit you are automatically granted a 6 month tourist visa on arrival to NZ. Watch this space next year as we apply for an extension or have to go off shore to be granted another period. In August next year we will have been waiting 31 months so I don't expect we will have our 143 visa so it will interesting to see what happens. A tired, but, happy Bridgie

  17. As my Mother would have said " Ditto Ditto" same for us, 8101 & 8201. I've been reading tonight about a visa extension on the 600 and I know that others have mentioned that. All in all I wish it was a little more transparent but hey ho it is what it is. As always the more we all post the greater the knowledge. Bridgie Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  18. Hi AMP, I missed out some vital info---i blame the wine !!!!! The bank i notified was our Spanish bank as we lived there up til we came to Australia. We had to do this for tax reasons as we have become Non Fiscal Resident in Spain. Our UK bank happily accepted our Spanish address to send statements and year end certificates and I did this online. Sorry for the confusion. Reference the 600 renewal I shall post how it goes. We flew to NZ in April and the airline wanted to see the visa but customs in NZ didn't. On return to Australia I went through the automatic Immigration set up OK but my wife had a problem which meant she had to go to a manual desk. I was the other side by then but was able to see the computer screen as she was checked through. The details it showed on the screen where her passport photo, the photo taken that day at the automated booth, her 600 visa details and our current Australian address. This next trip is to get the second year as we had the clause "Multi entry" on our visa and this allows us to visit Australia for 1 year from date of entry up to 30 August 2017---hence we go on the 25th return of the 27th and therefore obtain 12 more months. I am fully expecting to be stopped by both NZ and Australian customs as we are spending such little time away. Its more the following year I am concern about i.e. from 26th August 2018 as our visa will have expired with no renewal allowed. I am assuming/hoping we can leave Australia before the end date and apply for a completely new 600 to tide us over to Jan 2019 which is when I expect us to be granted PR. Anyone else know the answers please post and I'll check in and post about the renewal in August. Bridgie
  19. Thanks Alan, I'm not doubting you at all as you do this every day, however, when I use the ATO check list of whether I am a tax resident or not, it mentions no where about pension Income from the UK being taxed in the UK solely until you are granted permanent residency. Is this an agreement between UK and Oz ?. I, like every other applicant am mortified that I might somehow run foul of the ATO and thereby get a black mark against our 143 application. Appreciate any pointers as to where I can find this Info. Thanks again.
  20. In exactly the same position, we leave Aus to go to NZ for two days in August to get our second year. Even after that second year we are unlikely to have our visa, I am hoping we will be able to go Off shore and re apply for a new 600 visa. A trip to NZ from Aus including a stop over hotel will set you back around 1000$ au. The driving licence was easy but expensive it was about 600 for the both of us for 10 years and it was all done at VIC Roads. I guess the other states are much the same. Notify banks, pensions etc; has been easy via email. UK tax matters is on going and HMRC is proving difficult to contact unless you write to them or ring them. Do be aware that your income tax in Australia is likely to prove eye watering and you will be a tax resident in Australia probably before you are a resident. You may well be liable to a 2% Medicare levy on top of your tax due. We are learning all the time and are happy to admit our knowledge is fractured. Get pro advice on your tax affairs. Private health care is a stipulation of the 600 visa, we use BUPA and its around 280 a month , rental costs in outer Melbourne 350 - 450 a week, be aware that this magically rises because the figures quoted weekly are for 52 weeks which when you pay monthly expect a quoted figure of 400 a week to become 433.... Confused....we were. Pm me and I will try to answer any questions. Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  21. Gumtree is huge in Australia. We have bought coffee tables, rugs, washing machine, garden mulcher, TV tables etc etc. Yes you have to have the time ,transport and inclination but the savings are incredible. Also don't forget everything but everything has delivery costs.....there is no free delivery. Spent 5000 in Good Guys and still had to pay 75 delivery costs. KMart and Target are godsends for kitting out a house cheaply. IKEA have branches around Melbourne are also good, not sure of branches of IKEA ain other states. eBay has been great but, let the buyer beware and always visit before paying and try to pick up in person. 22. When you apply for a 600 visa no where does it say how many and how much are you bringing over to Oz, it's irrelevant to being granted the visa. After you are granted the visa, you have the choice to ship goods over on a tourist visa end of. My advice is read as much information as possible on the subject speak to shippers and if you are not sure of your facts employ a specialist to the do the job. Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
