  1. Yikes---I've just drawn ticket zillion and 1!!!!! hello to you all. We've along way to go as we are only getting our paperwork together and waiting for our 2nd son or our daughter's PR to come through late this year. We naively thought that when we visit this Xmas we could bring our completed 143's with all the certified Doc's, Police Checks for UK and Spain and even have the medical done--Bish Bosh here's the dosh--Hello Australia early 2017. Now having read all your replies I'm In a quandary about whether to apply for a 173 and let our money accrue some Interest or bite the bullet and go for the 143 and accept the fact that It's likely to be two years min. before we have to pay the second Installment. Also have I read this correctly that It's pointless doing all the police checks as they will be out of date before the file Is looked at!!!! will Immigration ask for all and any document beyond the Initial form after the Intial lodgement. I feel like a new boy at a new school of the first day of term, however I think I may end up a prefect by the end of all this---or mad!!!! Bridgie

    Oz Skills

Hi , No 2 son Is applying for his PR through the Employer sponsored route 186. As you all probably know the Employer has to get the nod that they are allowed to sponsor him. Part of this process requires getting a certificate from Oz Skills stating that the company does Indeed pay 1% of It's gross into paying for staff training. Our son's company accountants asked for this from Oz Skills two and half weeks ago and still no answer. Anybody been In the same boat---Is this a normal time span?---can you contact Oz Skills If so how? or will It cause more problems than It solves. It's frustrating that every part of the process that he himself has been Involved with ie police certs, medicals, application forms has all been done long ago and a simple thing Is holding the whole thing up
  3. Brilliant thanks so much guys for your very helpful and informative responses... glad we joined this site. Marian
  4. Thanks Cal, appreciate the response, will follow up on the link.. Marian
  5. Sorry I said "Congenital" I meant "Continual" No, In reality all three of them are doing very well.
  6. Hi, Can anyone help please? We are coming over to Melbourne and also Sydney in November... our daughter expects our first grandchild in September  and we need to find some accommodation for probably 6 weeks or so in Melbourne... I am currently looking at Airbnb and all the other sites (Aussie house sits) that offer private accommodation.... but I did wonder if there is anyone out there who might know of any other Independent Private rentals in Melbourne or suburbs, preferably close to code 3040..... Rentals do seem quite high through Airbnb, is this normal for the area? Any advice or information would be very greatly appreciated.... We are in the very early stages of looking to move over (from Spain) but guess this may take 2 years or so to get our Visas in place, and the fact that 1 of our 3 children have their PR, so we are waiting for a 2nd of our children to get their PR before we can apply for our Visas.... Thanks in advance.. Marian
  7. I'm not even sure I'll see 60. I have a condition that unfortunately Is becoming more common I truly hope It's not congenital. It's called "Kid's bleeding you dry" I don't know If It's reached the southern hemisphere---I suspect It has!!!!!!
  8. Thanks for the reply. On a quick calculation I have worked out we will be 250$ worse off a month which Is "small potato's" compared to the flight to and fro. I would love to live of someone else's taxes . We even have to pay a bond each to make sure we won't try to use or abuse the benefit system. Do I mind--not a bit of It Australia has It right. We also have had bank accounts In Australia for 6 years and are taxed as foreigners so you could say others are living off my taxes.
  9. More than happy to pay any tax I legally have to. Like wise If I can reduce what I have to pay legally It would be pretty stupid not to do it.
  10. Thanks for the replies, it's as I feared. We also have a house In Spain where we currently live. Is it possible to have Permanent Residency status In Australia but stay out of the country for a length of time to not be eligible for Australian Taxation? We are aware of the OAP rules and to a certain extent some of It applied to us when we left the UK in 2007. Currently I've got to wait til 66 to get any State Pension so I'm not holding my breathe I'm actually going to get any.
  11. Many thanks for the speedy answer NicF. We will be visiting Oz later this year and i will be contacting a few consultants. Super Is not worth It as i have a good pension already----i just what to hang onto as much of it as poss. I spoke to an Ex Copper friend of mine who has now left Australia and he said that his UK Police Pension was taxed fully in Australia, hence my enquiry. I will be Interested to see If i can claim any reductions to lessen my tax exposure. Expert advice is always best but, personal experience is valuable to. Thanks
  12. Hi Everybody, Just about to start the PR route to follow our children to Oz and I'm looking for an answer to a pension question. i have searched the forum and couldn't find anything so I apologise If I'm In the wrong section etc; Question :- I was In the UK Fire Service and receive a pension from UK Gov. Due to an Injury I sustained I receive part of that pension tax free. When I come to Oz will I still be taxed as normal in the UK and keep my tax free allowance or will the gross pension be taxed In Australia and the previous tax free part now be Included In an Australian Tax Calculation. It will make quite a difference. I/We will be 60/61 when we receive our PR's I suspect. We are currently 57/58 and are applying late this year. Appreciate any answers---even If It's pointers to the right section:smile:
