  1. @beach pig that's a bit harsh, some people find it harder leaving younger family behind than older ones, personally I've no issues but understand that its not that easy for everyone. I agree though there are bigger problems for people but no need to make it seem like someone else emotions are irrelevant
  2. It stinks and no easy way I suppose, told my niece we were heading to aus and she asked was it only for a short time and when I told her no she said she was moving too lol. Tell them your moving away for a wee bit but you can talk all the time via video cals etc (introduce them to it now by videoing from home now)
  3. Yea I'd sell the stuff at home and buy new when there or second hand until your working again etc
  4. Asda as its closest and cheap
  5. Would you not try somewhere else in aus to live though, somewhere cheaper
  6. Thanks might do that for partners straighteners if were staying a while then change back if we come home. At least for Xbox I can't just buy a new lead
  7. I think there's a visa for skilled workers that you could look into. You could try that maybe. Have a look on the official site and it will show all types of visas available. I know many people who went on a whv and now they're citizens so its possible (I'm just not sure how).
  8. Not yet but I'll look into it more and see if we would qualify etc.
  9. Ah right that makes more sense. Were only renting so no selling for us even if it is permanent. For us its a matter of if my partner likes it then we will be emigrating. But there's no point in being 100% about it until we know if we like it first.
  10. Not sure what you mean? But to the other post above yea I understand what your saying and would agree with that, just a risk you have to take I suppose and it just happened to work out for them (thankfully). Hope it does for us to but as with everything in life nothing is guaranteed.
  11. I know someone who runs the farm so am almost gareteed as long as they are still there. Its all hypothetical at the minute. I just like to think positively. Nothing is certain at all though
  12. That's awesome thanks for the info, should have the 5000 each anyway so shouldn't be a problem. Good to know about the employer part thanks for clarifying for me So in theory I could work for an employer for 6 months and get my 2nd year then work for a new employer for the other 6 months then because the year would be over I could continue with said employer for a further 6 months? Also how does it work if we wanted to stay on after the 2nd year? Sorry for all the questions I just like to know all outcomes lol
  13. Thanks for the info. Yea we know about the 6 months with one employer so are hoping to do the 6 months and apply for our second year then head to Perth, but if I read a post earlier right then if we are approved for 2nd year then we can stay another 6 months with the same employer as its a new visa or did I read it wrong. Is it $5000 each? I was told it was only $2500. Yea we could have proof of work lined up no problem by the time were leaving
  14. Haha funny you should say that the ones were going to said there's some near them :0 and a huge snake that stays by the house lmao. Oh I'll defo keep you updated. Hope to order visas and flights at the start of the year then it'll all become more real . Passports being renewed at the minute
  15. @Marisawright I know a couple who went and only one of them wanted to go and neither of them looked back (years later). Which is similar for us as I want to go and my partner is going for me, if she likes it we will stay and if not we'll come back. Have to experience these things for yourself
  16. Were heading to both (if we like it). We will arrive in Perth and stay with family for 2 weeks and sort out our tax numbers and bank accounts before heading to a farm in Darwin to work (and if we like it applied for our second year visa. After a year of work we will head back to Perth to work (if possible) as we have a LOT of friends there who can help us starting off
  17. It all depends on circumstances, if its going to be a better life then yes it may be selfish but for good reasons.
  18. Yea in Darwin we know that our grocery shop is only done every 2 weeks and its 2.5hr drive each way so I'm expecting that . Not sure about where shops etc are in Perth to where were staying, hopefully not far. We aren't 100% staying forever maybe only 3 months (just depends on how we like it).
  19. I only read the first post and am sorry you feel this way. Guilt/homesickness isn't something you can just forget about unfortuneatly. Defo talk to your husband so he can share your burden and hopefully you find a solution that will make you both happy. I heard food and rent is very expensive but we worked out that after rent and food we would have 700-800 aud left (if we both got jobs for 700aud a week) Oh wow so sorry to hear about your daughters child its a horrible thing to overcome, my deepest sympathy
  20. So we are a couple living in the UK (were in our 20s) and are looking to move September 2016. So far we have a job (almost confirmed) although closer to the time we would know 100%. My understanding is we need our whv (which we will apply for in January and that will mean when we enter the country in September we can work for a full year). We are going to stay with friends in Perth for 2 weeks before we head to Darwin for work for 6-12 months and in that time applying for our 2nd year. Once we arrive we will apply for our tax numbers and bank accounts. To my knowledge that's all we need, is there anything were missing? How about health insurance? I can't find anything to cover us for a year . Any help is greatly appreciated. Flights from Dublin for this year would be £700 for both us then the visas are £250 ish each so all in it seems about £1200 would get everything we need (except insurance) as when we head over and order our tax numbers and bank accounts that's free I believe.
  21. I hope that's not the case as I'm heading over next year lol
