  1. Hi ... I am coming to Oz on the 11th September, I have $1000 saved up so far (AUD), I plan to have about $3000-$4000, however, a few people have said this isn't enough for what I want to do. Basically my plan is to arrive in Sydney, then just chill about and be a tourist for a week or two.. I will have my hostel booked before I come so that isn't included in the total amount.. I don't really eat that much and I don't really drink alcohol so that isn't an issue.. I am wondering if $3000-4000 would be enough to support me for a month until I get a job, obviously I won't be blowing my money away and wasting it on rubbish - My accommodation will be sorted for a week - two as mentioned. I don't know where to travel after Sydney, I was thinking up to Gold coast and chill there for a week but apparently weather isn't that good in Sept? (Can anyone tell me where to go after Sydney for lovely beaches and nice weather) .. Will it be enough to support myself for food, 2 - 3 weeks accommodation, and a few activities; maybe the zoo, surfing lesson etc?? I am thinking of looking for a farm job BEFORE I come, I know what dates I want to work and I'm wondering how easy it is to get a job before I come as I don't want to waste time when I am there.. can anyone point me in the right direction of farm work between end of Sept - beg of Oct.. I don't want to do WOOFING either I need $$$ before my BF comes Thanks in advance.. sorry for the long post!! X
  2. You seem to have nothing to stay at home for.. going to Australia may help your confidence and help you make friends, you will also be able to travel! You will not be lonely, check yourself in at a backpackers hostel and you will meet so many people. If you come and hate it, it isn't like you have given up a job etc. I presume these three friends aren't really a huge part of your life? You can still keep in touch with them over in Oz. Maybe time away from home will help you in the long run when you come back, youll be a year or two older and maybe wiser!! You have enough cash to start you up and keep you going until you find a job in Oz. If i was in your shoes i would do it, nothing to loose!
  3. Hi, I am coming to Oz on a WHV in September... I am going to be spending a week or so in Sydney then up to The gold coast for a week or so chilling etc and then wherever in the hope to find farm work.. (hopefully Queensland). My dilemma is I am thinking of taking around 2000 - 3000 aud cash with me, and this will see me through for accommodation, travel expenses, food etc for about 3-4 weeks until I get a job... but I don't feel comfortable travelling around with so much staying in hostels etc- do i exchange it here in the UK (in order to avoid paying international bank transfer charges) and then when I arrive in oz but it into a bank account.. or do I just do bank transfer and take it out as and when I need it? I don't want to take a currency card or travellers cheques either. Many thanks in advance, Alix
  4. Hi thanks for the link to the backpack but I already have one I purchased earlier in the year!! I do need a suitcase though lol!! 30kg is loads and I think for both Thailand and Oz I will buy some clothes there.. I normally go overboard when going on a normal 2 week holiday and use 20kg but don't wear half the stuff haha oops!!! Thanks again
  5. Hi thanks for the reply Well the backpack I have has a zip at the bottom so it's easy to get stuff out of, I think a suitcase for Oz maybe but i'm not 100%.. I think cos I'm not really moving around every month it'll be easier to unpack all my stuff and live out of a suitcase! Looks like I'll have to get a new suitcase lol - I have a 30kg weight limit for my baggage as well so need to find a light suitcase!
  6. Hi ... I am wondering whether it would be better to take a suitcase or a 65L+ backpack with me? I am planning on travelling around but staying in places for 1-3 months so not really a long time? I am going to Thailand for a month and I am taking my backpack there rather than a suitcase as it's easier so not too sure what to take with me to oz!? How big are the lockers in the hostels if I did take a suitcase? Any advice would be appreciated.. Alix
  7. Oh fab thankyou!! I got told they offer wifi onboard as well? If so that's made me love them more lol
  8. Hi - I am flying with Emirates from Manchester - Sydney (Economy) on the 10th September at 14:05...wondered if there was going to be anyone else on my flight? Also wondered what is the airbus A380-800 was like? Never flown with Emirates before Alix
  9. Hi - I am in the process of applying for my WHV subclass 417. I have a problem with the 'Occupation' box .. I am currently a full time Diagnostic Radiography student but come June 2015 my course will have ended and I will be unemployed... so what do I put? Does it mean current occupation or does it mean occupation of when I am lodging my visa.. I have emailed UK office but no reply yet!!! Thanks Alix (I am wanting to come in September 2015 btw)
  10. Oh thats so cool!! Is your visa valid until you go to oz and get stamped then? I'm saving up a little but not alot, I'll book my hostel before I go so I don't need to worry about accommodation...so much to think about and I'm not even there yet lol
  11. I'm hoping to apply for my visa this weekend, just got to speak to a few people then i'll be on my way - how soon did you get approved? So excited but nervous at the same time!! How come you feel stressed?? I'm off to Thailand next July for a month I'm so glad I don't need a visa for there!! Lol x
  12. Panic over I have found a email address - Nope I don't have any convictions or anything of the sort ha!! I think im just worrying too much tbh.. I take it you have got your WHV then?? I'm from Blackburn in Lancashire / North West ! x
  13. Nope it just says Occupation and then a box to write something - I'm gunna get onto it tomorrow!! Thanks for your help its refreshing to speak to someone other then just reading forums haha x
  14. Do you have any idea about my WHV query? What I should put? Trying to find someone to contact to ask them but no luck atm haha.. nightmare.. im technically a student atm but when I will be lodging my visa I won't be?!! x
  15. Yeah sending my CV around to farm places!! I want to work on a farm roughly 3-5 months maybe. My travel plans are fairly basic - Not really fussed where I end up!! Ha.. Ohh I am thinking of going about the 17th to SYD ..how come perth first??! x
  16. Hi Stacey!! - What do you mean by I wouldn't be able to apply for farm work first? I have friends who have done this first then gone travelling? Has this changed on the WHV or something?? Confused haha... I want to start beginning of the season so this wouldn't be a prob with me!! You are brave going it alone.. When are you thinking of going?? Will look at ultimate travel thanks x
  17. Hi, I am new to this forum and need lots of advice!! I am applying for my WHV (subclass 417) and at the moment I am a student radiographer up until June 2015 - I am hoping to come in September for a year / two years.. it asks me on the application what my occupation is? - What do I put? That I am a student radiographer until June then I am unemployed until I come to Oz??? I am looking for farm work, I want to apply for this BEFORE I come to oz as I don't want the messing around when I am there - my plans are to fly from UK to Sydney and spend a week or two relaxing and such .. I am wanting farm work also in order to earn money and eventually to be able to apply for my 2nd year visa .. Where should I start? How soon should I apply for work? ETC. Does anyone have any websites that I can do a welcome week in Sydney - Similar to OzIntro but I want to compare a few.. I am wanting to open up a bank account before I come so I can start transferring money into it from the UK - how easy is it to do? What are the different banks, will I be able to pick up a bank card asap when I arrive in Oz? (I don't want any that offer me a minimum of so many dollars to be able to open it.. How do I apply for Medicare? As I am from the UK- does this entitle me for free health care.. Would this mean I don't need to get travel insurance that covers me for health care? Do I need to get it still to protect my belongings etc as I will be bringing my iPad/Go Pro... Sorry for the long long post but I really need some advice on it all - many many thanks in advance and safe travels Alix
