  1. Hey!! I go in a month, I'm not really sure what to take but I'm taking like things for all weathers, so just 'everything' - such as jeans. 1 jumper (if i need another one i can buy one out there), tops, shorts etc.. just the usual things. Flip flops (if you wear them), nice pair of sandly type shoes and some comfy shoes /converse / etc!! Thats kind of what I'm taking. Then obviously you need to remember the basic stuff like passport, money, visa printed out, medicare form, bank details (if you have set one up), flights, hostel booking printed out, a copy of your passport, any certificates u may need copied, tell your UK bank you are going australia? if you plan to use your card out there, check your phone (if you are taking it) will work over in oz.. if you need any travel insurance take a copy of this!! this is just a brief list for me but though I'd share!! xx
  2. Hi - A scanned copy should be sufficient. NEVER send primary copies of anything unless they email/ring you and ask for it. I wouldn't worry :-)
  3. Hi. Really undecided what to do, I come in September and not sure whether to do farm work first or Au Pairing. I'm not coming skint but I don't wanna spend all my money on rent and stuff before I've even managed to get farm work. I'm not in any massive rush to get my farm work done BUT I don't want to cut myself short. The wage for Au Pairing would be $1000 a month plus extra hours if I need it to earn more money, live in house with no bills basically. I was thinking of doing it for a few months (say till mid December) then in the new year find farm work and hope to get it complete by end of march beginning of April. What do people think? Ditch the Au and do farm work straight away?? The Au Pairing would allow me to have weekends off to go and travel and sight see etc. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!! Sorry for the long post but I'm torn xxxx
  4. I've paid £650, single from manc to Sydney with an hour or so stop over in Dubai. Flying with Emirates though- well worth the money IMO
  5. You should keep $1000 free for a return home. I can't see it being anymore than that!! But keep it in an account so you don't spend it. I'm sure you will love it!! You don't want to be tied down to a flight and worrying about it, better to just book a one way return when u want to come home x
  6. I packed my holiday clothes for Thailand and it was pretty full but I've left a few tops and things here that are full of suncream and stuff that I haven't worn and won't (don't know why I got it lol)!! So it's a lot lighter coming home. I'm the same as u... u wear the same thing all the time hahaha!! It'll be worse for oz cos I'll have every season stuff Inc jeans and jumpers which are heavy
  7. I am exactly the same!! I've got 8 nights in Sydney booked but I need to find work ASAP so I know what I'm doing lol!! Yeah I'm going on a one way. I've not even thought about keeping any money aside, I won't want to leave until the end of my first year or the end of my second. When the time comes just book it haha!!
  8. I thought about just buying one from Argos? I'm not sure though. They all seem really heavy and judging by the amount of clothes I have I think I'll need 2.. only got a 30kg allowance and the last thing I need is a suitcase that weighs a lot on its own
  9. ? I leave in 46 days and I've not even got a suitcase... I've always used other people's when going away!! Oops
  10. I have - no reply as of yet just a few likes lol. I think my brother and his mates are heading up there too for Xmas so ill see them. If not ill go alone...I'm sure I'll meet people heading to Bali!! Has your visa come yet?
  11. Well I've decided to go to Bali for 10 nights (23 December - 2nd Jan) over Christmas and New year. I'm staying in Funky Monkey, in Kuta, it's a shared dorm with breakfast (£96/$203). Wondered if anyone would be around that time to meet up? As of yet I'm going on my own. Not got my flight yet as I'm not sure where I am flying from... Anyway I'm so excited as it looks beautiful! Anyone got any tips or advice?? x
  12. 47 days for me...got so much to do yet!!! Like find a suitcase for a start hahaha... Stacey did you get one?
  13. Hi. Please do!! I'm literally landing and getting my TFN, verifying my bank account, medicare, and getting an oz sim card on the Saturday and then have a look around. I'm only in Sydney until the 19th then I need to have found a job preferably farm work with accommodation on site. I want to tour Sydney abit though so my 7 days will be spent doing that with a day poss at Bondi Beach! X
  14. Hey everyone, thanks for all your kind words and reassurance it's made me feel so much better. I'm staying in Jackaroo.. I needed somewhere I could pay when I get there and that was the best one available. I'm sharing in a 4 bed dorm so I'm sure I'll meet people. I arrive on the 11th late at night.. If anyone is around over the weekend and wants to meet up just send me a message on here. Not sure were I'm heading after there- need to find a job lol. I think you are all right I'd have a much better time going on my own.. no one to please but myself and I can do what I want. Thank you everyone xxxxx
  15. Hi. I was due to be coming with my boyfriend (now ex) of 3 years to oz in September... We have split up and I'm coming on my own and he isn't going at all. I'm TERRIFIED about it, but I've got myself into a hostel in Sydney for 8 nights. Anyone got any tips? Not a fan of having to fly on my own either
  16. Hi arriving the 11th with my boyfriend.. so excited!!! Just need to get some more currency and I'm sorted.. what about you?
  17. Im off to thailand for a month next week and I'm taking a 65L backpack... its 3/4 full at the min and not too heavy.. however for oz im definitely taking a suitcase.. not a chance I'll be living out of a backpack, dreading the thought already i got the backpack off eBay for £23, its mega sturdy and good quality!! Ps stacey are you any closer to booking flights? x
  18. Im not bothering with travel insurance, i dont have a return flight so not many cover me... medicare covers me for free as far as i was aware?? When i was looking i was getting quotes for over £200!!
  19. Hi - I got mine in December through STA travel. One way from Manchester to Sydney (10th September). I paid around £650, flying with Emirates, 23 hour flight, 2 hr 30 stop over in Dubai. Probably paid more than I should have done for a one way, but it was cheaper than booking it straight from the website. I wanted to fly with a decent airline as well. If I'm honest I don't think it really matters when you book the flight, prices don't really go up and down that much I don't think!! Just get them as soon as possible really.
  20. My flight was £670, I could have easily have got one for £400 but it was over 24 hours travelling with loads of changes and this one only has a 2hr stop over in Dubai which is nice!! (and 23 hours lol) and I wanted a reliable airline! Wow, I think $2500 is little but I think it's enough to fund me for a month or so and my bf won't let me go without food or a bed so I don't really need to worry!! For me it was either I start applying for jobs as a radiographer here or go travelling.. I'm only 21 and didn't really want to get into a job then have to quit a year later to go travelling after saving up so may as well do it now!! Yeah that'd be good!! It'll come around so fast, I booked to go to Thailand at the same time (going there next month) and that's come round so fast!!! I'll be in Sydney taking selfies with the opera house before I know it haha x
  21. I booked my flights with STA travel (one way) flying with Emirates!! So excited, going with my boyfriend so it's even better!! Yeah we can't wait - only 3 months to go.. we got our flights in December and it seemed like a lifetime away - How much do you think you'll take? I've got $2500 so far, my parents are giving me some before I go and my bf is taking about $4000-8000 just to be on the safe side until we find a job!! I'm a student so saving everything I've got haha!! I only need enough so I can sight see in Sydney, pay for accommodation, food and then to get to the job (providing we find one sooner rather than later) .. i'm not thinking about it all too much, it's so nerve wracking but exciting at the same time. People worry loads about money and going over but I normally overthink things but for this I'm not cos i'll just worry myself more haha!! Are you going on your own? (Sorry for the long post lol) x
  22. You're the same as me!! I only really want to go to Sydney because I want to 'holiday' there haha!! When are you going? We booked 10 nights a while ago and glad we did as there isn't much left for September that is worth paying money for!! x
  23. Hi - i'm going in September and starting off in Sydney for 10 nights, using that as a 'base' to look for work and then going wherever the work seems to be (or if we have a job travel there) .. like Bungo said it's easier for flights!! x
  24. Hi!! I am coming in September also with my bf.. if I am honest from research I have done on forums and on facebook sites I have seen that there is not much point even looking for work (of any sort) until you arrive and have a TFN (tax file number), bank account etc sorted out. It's much easier to look a few weeks before you are due to arrive and get a general idea of what is around in the area you will be living in. I was after farmwork for beginning of October and it's basically a case of when you land, get looking!! Hope this helps! Alix
  25. Hi, I am coming on a WHV in September and I will have a honours degree in Diagnostic Radiography - which in Oz in known as Medical Radiation Tech come June. I am wondering that when my WHV runs out I could apply for an EOI. How does it work? My skill is on the skilled workers. Please can somebody explain to me how an EOI works. (a non sponsored) - I am ideally wanting to work and live as a citizen of Oz after my WHV has expired and can I do so by submitting this EOI as my skill set is on the list. Will I have to find work as a Medical Rad tech before I apply for the EOI? Forgot to add - I will be hoping to apply on the subclass 189. Thanks Alix
