Since we've landed (2weeks ago) we have visited our bank and obtained visa debit cards which can be used online! Just have to wait for residency before we can get credit cards ? Geoff & Gill

The only drawback to eftpos is that it has no security no. on the back, so you can't use it for on-line purchases! Geoff & Gill

Hi, likewise two weeks tomorrow! So far we have arranged Medicare cards ( which can be renewed this time next year if we're still on 600), got visa debit cards from bank instead of Eftpos cards and Geoff has bought a car! The only thing we couldn't do in our name was the mobile sim which our daughter has put in her name, till visas come. It's lovely to see the blue sky and sun in winter! Looking forward to meeting up whenever suits you, it's easy for us to get a train into Melbourne. Regards Geoff & Gill

Hi Alan, presumably you have bought and insured a car since you moved out to Oz. Was your 'no claims bonus' from UK recognised? Regards Geoff & Gill

Does anyone know if UK 'No Claims Bonus' has any bearing on Aussie car insurance policies? Gill & Geoff

We have 600 visa . It was granted on 12 May 2017 and that we must not arrive after 12 May 2018. It also states that each stay period is 12 mths from date of each arrival, so if we leave end of April 2018 and come back in before 12 May we can stay for another year! At least that is how our understanding of it is. Geoff & Gill

We are one year ahead of you, and your new plan is exactly what we are doing now! We've had a few holidays in the last year to keep us occupied and time passed. It will be next year before you know it!. Geoff & Gill

Hi, unfortunately we were caught up in VW dieselgate! Although modified software has been installed, the model Yeti we own is a higher powered engine than the Aussie version. They have frowned upon all VW Diesel engines and made it clear that ours would require special consideration . Can't be bothered with the hassle either. We're happy having our caravan in storage as prices over there are very high for our van and our shipper is happy to collect it for us from storage point when our visa is finally issued. Plus it will be a good way of conveying all Geoff's tools. Geoff & Gill

Hi, we changed our car and caravan back in 2013 with the intention of taking both, after minimum ownership of 12 months. Caravan is going, we have our import authority, but regarding the car, it turns out that many modifications would be needed and tests performed beacause it's not a standard model that Australia recognise! Therefore it is more economical to sell car here and buy new when in Oz! Hopefully when he gets his new car, he'll just have fond memories of his Yeti ? Geoff & Gill

Hi, we know what you mean! We have just returned from a lovely restful two weeks in Crete and are now back on the case! Having a shipping company coming today to take two boxes of summer clothes/ shoes to Oz. They should arrive just in time for spring. We are now in the process of packing the last couple of boxes to put in storage and in our caravan which will await shipping once 143s are issued. We leave our rented flat on 14th June to stay with friends till 18th when we fly. Geoff is still contemplating having to sell his car, which he loves! See you soon! Where in Melbourne area are heading? Geoff & Gill

We went for the tourist visa and gave reasons as tourism/visit family. They asked for any significant dates on when we wanted to be there, to which we gave birthday dates and Xmas. Details of insurance we gave as ANZPLUS.com plus period covered ( date of flight plus a year) . We stated that type of insurance was Tourist Health Travel Insurance. (We got a quote from insurance company and it was just over £400 which is for emergency cover plus ambulance call out). Geoff & Gill

We applied direct. We had originally contacted our agent, but she wasn't keen on the idea, so we just did it ourselves!

In the UK it's $134 whereas in Oz I think it's just over $300!

We are definitely going to apply for the 600, it's whether to do it now and ignore the e-visitor that we already have issued, or go out on it and then when we get to Oz apply for the 600 while we are there. Are we allowed to do that? Geoff & Gill
