Hi, we’re one day ahead of you. Similar situation, everything submitted, just waiting for new financial year to start and the hope that things will start to move. By the way, don’t think Nemesis was referring to you, more like Gurtej! Geoff & Gill

Hi, we bought in a new development, and it was a house/land package. You have a choice of builder and , I believe the expression is “turn-key” property, or you pick a house and any upgrades you wish. The first time buyers grant is 10% metro, 20% rural in Victoria. Although we missed out on this, land has gone up in value so much here, that we have saved by acting early and taking a chance! I don’t see why you can’t purchase the land early, it takes about 20 weeks for build ( that’s the theory ?). We delayed ours by 3 months thinking that we would have Visa by completion, but Immigration knew better . Hopefully it won’t be too long, maybe towards springtime ?? Geoff & Gill

No, our daughter went into her local Centrelink office early in the morning and it took her about 20 mins or so with the clerk. We were surprised at how smoothly it all went. Geoff & Gill

In August 2016 we applied for FIRB status ( foreign investor Revue Board) at a cost of $5000, to purchase a block of land which had to be built on within 4 years. We then purchased the land and chose a builder. The only drawback was that you don’t receive “first time buyer “. grant if you’re not resident when signing contract. As of last week , we finally took possession of our new home and await the grant of our 143s, which hopefully will be before the end of this year! ,

We originally had one son in USA, one daughter in Australia ( she has been a citizen since 2009) and a son in UK and we were unable to apply for a CPV until our son moved out to Australia on a skill Visa in 2015! So unless there is anything new coming soon I don’t think it will be possible, but you never know ! Regards Geoff & Gill

We were already over here when we contacted them by phone. Explained our position, ie on 600 Visa and this is what we were quoted. We don’t have 8501 condition on our Visas , maybe this does make a difference. What are pharmacy benefits? When we got here we went to Centrelink and obtained a reciprocal Medicare card and when we go to the chemist to get our prescriptions we just pay the difference that’s not covered by Medicare. Good luck in your search, presume you have to have insurance in place before you travel? If not maybe wait till you get here? Geoff & Gill

Hi, we’re with HBF Health Insurance. You can pick what you want to be covered for. We have ambulance cover, dental minor and major and optical cover. The cost is $43.30 each per month, which will reduce once we’re residents. Also, you can change categories covered if you need to during the year. We’ve been to the dentist twice each and had new glasses, no problems with claims. Hope this helps Geoff & Gill

We didn’t , 600 Visa is a tourist visa so until we have residency we are still under UK tax laws. At least that’s the way we view it. Geoff & Gill

Hi, no we didn’t do a thing. It just all happened quite smoothly and must admit, after reading some of the horror stories on here, we were quite surprised that it did! Our daughter was advised when she first lodged the AoS that it should take a month to go through but that she was aware of a bit of a queue, and may take two months, which it in fact did. Our daughter lodged the bond on 21st Feb. Our AoS seemed to go through much quicker than others on this site ( see our signature on the bottom here). Regards Geoff & Gill

Heard today from our daughter that she has received e-mail from Centrelink to pay bond within 14 days. It didn’t really give her clear instructions how to go about this but checked back with “Catlady” posts and hopefully found the answers. One thing the letter said was that she is responsible for our welfare should we need help, and not to go to Centrelink. Why then do they need a bond ? Geoff & Gill
