  1. Hi, Has anyone left Australia and lodged an early tax return? We are leaving about 8 months into the tax year and I've been told we could receive a rebate of around $4k each, I'm quite surprised by that figure and wonder if it aligns with what others have received.
  2. You've picked a cracking place to live. FYI - Pier 71 pizzas are excellent and weekend brunch at Creme is pretty good.
  3. Has anyone used OSS World Wide Movers to ship stuff to the UK from Melbourne? I had them round to do a quote yesterday and they were a $1k cheaper than Allied Pickford but I didn't find them to be very professional.
  4. Same for me, went to Leicester uni and stayed there. We used to live in Anstey, five minutes from brad gate park.
  5. That was terrible... plus, I can't even enjoy Leicester being champs as I'm an Ipswich Town fan.
  6. I want to go back to Leicester, there must be something wrong with me!
  7. I often wonder if these reasons are a bit weak and I'm terrified of moving back and regretting it. That said, I spent Sunday afternoon cooking a roast and, as nice as it was , I would have enjoyed it more if I'd been cooking for my family.
  8. My main reason for wanting to head home is boredom, there are only so many times I can go to the beach etc... Australia is great but I miss the little things like visiting family at the weekends, socialising with friends who we've known for years and talking soccer at work (I've tried my hardest but AFL just doesn't do it for me).
  9. I probably need to redecorate in the larger lounge room...
  10. But you don't really need a TV room, or a rumpus or even a laundry... We have two lounge rooms and the larger one never gets used, we also have two dining areas but only need both of these if we've fallen out! Fair point about the poundlands in my home town of Ipswich but not all uk towns are like that.
  11. A couple of friends live in Mitcheldean, half decent pub in the village centre and some nice running routes that take you out in to the country.
  12. Everybody knows it can be hot, but they don't know how they'll cope with it. I'm sure you didn't realise how gloomy the winter in the uk can be and that you would be stuck with the choice of pub or tv. I never found winter too difficult in the uk as that's when the hockey and soccer seasons are in full flow.
  13. It's very pretty and the cafe's on Pier St are great but houses prices are on the rise and the seaweed smell can be off putting.
  14. I miss curries too, my girlfriends step mother is African-Indian and makes the best Dovi and Biryani.
  15. $6!!!! You wouldn't get much change from $20 if you bought those in a nice cafe in Melbourne.
  16. We flew China Southern from Melbourne to Tokyo and they were fine. It's not as comfortable as the more expensive airlines but the service is good and the food isn't terrible.
  17. Hi, there's a form you can fill in to change the passport on your application, I'll see if I can find the reference number for you tomorrow. I managed to put my passport in the washing machine a few weeks after submitting our application and it didn't cause any problems for us.
  18. How does time away from the UK affect credit ratings? I've been in Australia for a touch over 18 months and would like to move back around September, my credit rating was pretty good when I left.
  19. Where are the pictures of Melbourne  Great snaps chillers, thanks for sharing.
  20. I've got to say the heat in Melbourne has never really been unbearable, perhaps I'm lucky to work in a nicely A/C'd office. I find the sun to be more oppressive - Hat, SPF50, etc....
  21. A big consideration for us is the cost of living in Melbourne. Whilst housing in Leicestershire isn't 'cheap' it's a damn sight more affordable than in Altona, another consideration is that we can save quite a bit on child care in the UK as the in-laws are happy/desperate to help.
  22. Friends and family My old hockey and running clubs Beer served at the correct temperature The countryside Not using sunscreen Drivers who know how to use roundabouts THE BBC!
