  1. Hi where are you in Queensland. I lived in Cairns but moved down to Ballarat Victoria as couldn't stand the heat. However, having been locked in for so long my thoughts are reverberating around a return. Was meant to fly up there in two weeks but not going to happen. As someone said it's only 3 months of the year it is unbearable but at 83 and a widow am uncertain. I loved the lifestyle in Cairns and like you found the people so relaxed and friendly. Here they seem to want to bite your hand off. Understandable but nevertheless offputting.
  2. Looks beautiful but no good for chilblains!!!
  3. Looks beautiful despite being cold. Ballarat Victoria had flurries of snow this morning but nothing settled. Really cold but sun trying to come through. Keep warm everyone. Have to say I do miss a warm cosy woodburner. Rented house only has gas heating which sends me to sleep!
  4. Have settled back very well and made the right decision to come to Victoria where one of my daughter's lives. When I was trying to decide what the best decision for me should be I was in a dark place after Roger's death. My mind was all over the place and I made some stupid choices but 2 years on life is kinder and being near my family was certainly the right way to go. People told me not to make any decisions for at least a year and in hindsight (wonderful word) I should have listened. I am a lucky person in many ways and appreciate the path I finally chose. We spent 2 weeks touring Tasmania which was wonderful and loved it. The scenery stunning and most of all people were friendly and helpful. I can see why you love it. We really want to come again and see more but with the way things are right now it will have to wait. I hope all of you are fit and well and if you have elderly relatives they are safe. What a terrible time it is and not over yet but I guess it's history repeating itself. All the best to all your readers.
  5. You're doing much better than here in Ballarat Victoria. Horrible weather, cold and raining made all the worse by restrictions.
  6. Mine is the one where i cant have injections but have been told this could change.
  7. Not near me at all but now I’m staying in Ballarat for a while i will see what I can find out. Thank you for the info
  8. If you sre not privatelyinsured this seems rather harsh. I would have thought Medicare would have covered something as serious as this if you are on an aussie pension. So far I am not impressed with the system and in Ballarat its very hard to even get accepted as a new patient and waiting time for a consultation can be anything up to 2weeks. I waited 2 hours yesterday for a consultation in a walk in clinic. Only 2 doctors and the waiting room was wall to wall.
  9. In cairns the temp remains constant and we have had some rain but the humidity is high. Temps aroud 31 to 33 but veryUncomfortable. thank goodness youve had a little rain and some relief. My prayers are with the firefighters who need all the help they can get. take care everyone keep safe.
  10. Been reading your comments with interest. Arriving for my first visit ever in february and haven,t a clue what clothes to pack! happy new year everyone.
  11. So happy to know there is a donkey sanctuary. I have subscribed to the one in uk and now almost back in aus will do the same now for aus. Hope i get to visit.

    Counting down!

I think you will always find work in London although it may not be exactly what you want to start with. Within reason be prepared to do anything and once you're in the workforce doors will open for you. I'm not speaking from experience. I'm too old now, but hear from others work is available but just be careful. I hope it all works out for you and your daughter and surely your relatives will keep an eye out for you. I have found a o great Airb&b in the local town I'm going to and was able to negotiate a better price because I've said I would like to stay for 3 months or more as will be looking for something permanent. Maybe you could do the same.I'm talking about Aus but rent coming in on a regular basis is attractive in anyone's language. Good luck to you both. Just keep your wits about you!
  13. OMG just beautiful and the music very moving and powerful. How I wish I was 20 years younger! Thank you so much for posting. There are not enough adjectives to describe it. I would so love to be able to post this to my daughters. Any advice as to how it can be done please.
  14. I think I have mucked up on where I was meant to be posting. Sorry!
  15. i would love to be near the sea I think as I love the wind in my face when walking along a beach and smell of the sea air. Obviously needs change but I just wondered if some of you had lived in different parts of Tas and which was your favourite spot. We lived very close to the north sea once in the uk and it was miserable but the beach was lovely. at certain times of the year. Lovely friendly people and very kind. Suffolk. Makes a difference to your memories. Best smoked haddock I have ever tasted and kippers
  16. A hypothetical question! If you had a choice where to live in Tasmania where would you choose?

Sounds like a good profession to have chosen and something different. I admire that. Good luck to him. You seem to grow very talented people on your island!

Just read about this chap on FB. Can't copy and paste photos unfortunately but thought you might like this snippet. shout out to a fellow Aussie who is a professional kite maker, Robert Brasington from Tassie. I went to the international kite festival in Notre Dame de Monts and had a chat with him. He's travelling around EU . I didn't see him but obviously another aussie did.
  20. Thank you very much indeed Amber for the information you have posted. Makes sense and I understand what you're saying. A great deal is lost in translation when you don't speak the language fluently and that is exactly what has happened in my case here in France. I was floundering somewhat. I appreciate the time and effort everyone has contributed to my query. Very kind.
  21. thank you. I can't have the injections apparently I have the wrong MD! Could change. Will be interested to know what she pays. I presume she's not private?
  22. I have MD. What is the situation with regard to seeing an eye specialist when you first arrive. Is there a long waiting time for ophthalmologists and if one can't afford to go private, which I can't, does it still cost? I will be staying l 1/2 hours from Melbourne.
  23. Just connected with someone we knew 40 odd years ago in Melbourne. He saw my name on FB and made contact. He lives in Dover. Now that's a place I know nothing about.
