  1. Mine was approved in a few hours
  2. Some travel insurance companies cover you for working, I know mine does. It's a piece of mind at the end of the day, a small price to pay. Plus you said you are not bothered about personal belongings being covered, but wouldn't it be nice to know if the unfortunate event happens, they are all covered. Even down to luggage, flight delays that will result in you having to wait days and paying to stay somewhere. Each to their own, but I know I'd rather be covered as anything can happen.
  3. I'm in Brisbane now, and have only stayed in one hostel here atm, it's aussiewaybackpackers and i recommend it if you want a chilled out place to stay. If your after a mad party place then it isn't for you, but if not then defo here, reasonable price, clean and tidy and everyone is friendly.
  4. There are sites that cover you monthly, I found plenty when I was looking, can't remember them though tbh as it was months ago. But I would take it out as medicare doesn't cover all your costs. Doctor appointments are about $70 dollars and the Medicare only refunds you about $36. What if you do an activity and seriously hurt yourself, you'll have a nice bill to pay at the hospital and then you can claim that back through your travel insurance.
  5. what is the main wwoofing site to use? As the main one that comes up for Oz, you have to pay to join?
  6. O...M...G.....just did a skydive at Hervey Bay and all I can say is it's an experience of a life time. The dive was breathtaking and the views were just amazing. If anyone is nearby or heading there this month Hervey bay skydiving have got a great deal on this month so it's a no brainier!
  7. I was thinking about there, but there's been no recent reviews and thought it might of been done and dusted now
  8. Why do they have to know how long you are going to be working for them? If I was in your shoes I wouldn't say anything about how long you plan to work there for, most casual jobs have a high turnover of staff so they are used to it. If they ask just lie, a lot of people will tell lies at interviews to sell themselves. It's not like you will be wanting to go back to that place to ask for your job back
  9. We're in surfers paradise atm, also looking for regional work too, willing to travel to wherever, if you find anything give us a shout
  10. The Gold Coast is a lovely place, been here 3 weeks so far and from looking there's a lot of job in the telesales area and food/barista area. So if that interests you or you have experience then you should be ok. I just had an interview this morning and got offered the job in a telesales position but didn't know this company were commission based with a very low base pay. Most jobs in this area are commission based but the base was too low for me to warrant accepting the job when I have no experience and it could takes weeks until I start earning any commission. As said from the other guys I would start either at the bottom or top of the east coast and work your along to take it all in. Whatever you choose you'll love it out here.
  11. Oh really? That sounds good, ill checking out, thanks!
  12. Cheers guys, I assumed you would have to dress smart and make an effort etc, just don't really want to have to go out and spend money on shirts and trousers if I didn't have too, especially just for an interview. Also the fact of having to pack more crap when we move on, as chucking them and re-buying in the next place is another expense.
  13. Hey guys been in Oz for 3 weeks now, currently in surfers paradise Gold Coast. I'm looking at applying for jobs here as I really like it here and want to stay a while. Was wondering what do most backpackers wear to interviews as I (and I'm sure most other backpackers) don't have a suit they have taken with them.
  14. We left sydney the other day to the Gold Coast, otherwise we would of met up. Have fun and get involved with things like staying at a hostel, you'll meet loads of people
  15. Errrm I'm not sure about if they are on all the time, but just use the internet to find out. Next thing is the Grand Prix this month. As the others have said with regards to food and drink, buy it and make it yourself, me and my partner have just done a shop, that will last a week and have spent $50 each, where as the last two weeks we have easily been spending that in 2 days on food and drink. Just be smart and work out if you can afford to live the luxury and how long it will last. Once you've got a job it's a different story as you can either save or spend more, down to what you want to do while out here.
  16. My advice so far after only being in Oz for 2 weeks is don't think everything will go to plan lol. We stayed in Melbourne for just over a week, and found everyone we met was saying work is dry due to so many people being there because of sport and festivals etc going on, so do your research on such things as that. We then went to sydney and stayed in bondi and found accommodation was either expensive or dives, this was because of the mardigrar festival going on this weekend. So we've now gone up to the Gold Coast and staying in our own apartment that's mint for the price of a room on air bnb in sydney. Obviously sydney is going to be expensive but just be prepared to use a lot funds if you have no work while staying there. As for things to do, just chill at the beach, in the common areas at hostels and meet people staying with you, plenty of sights to see, melbourne has a nice CBD with some nice park areas etc. St kilda is quite funky, you'll have enough to do to keep you occupied for a while, then if you get bored or can't get work, just book a flight and move on. So cheap to fly, but don't get to see the sights when travelling on the road!
  17. Cheers for that info about strawberry sue, I seen that job yesterday and was thinking about it. Currently at the airport waiting to fly to sydney and check it out there
  18. That is true, only issue is without having a car is getting to the places where and when they come available, as if you say you'll be able to get there in a day or two, sometimes they'll give the job to someone who will be there before you. As for getting a car, how does the reg work as if you buy it in one state and you travel to another, don't you need to change the reg or something? Also do you get basic insurance with reg so I've heard? Or do you need to take out insurance?
  19. Fair play on finding the job so quick! How do you do it?!? Does it help having a car?
  20. I was summoned to court 8 months ago for driving with due care and attention and also received points and a fine.... I have just arrived in Oz on a working holiday visa so don't worry!
  21. Hey pom queen, yeah we're over the jet lag now, hit us hard the first day and slept for like 18 hours, but got our sleeping patterns back to normal now. Just getting into the swing of things and looking for work tbh.
  22. Forgot to post recently, but finally in Oz. Spent the first few nights in Space which we got upgraded to a queen room with a balcony that was sweet! Now in habitat HQ in st kilda which is alright, just the weather is cloudy so trying to occupy ourselves as it's too cold and windy to go to the beach and relax. Thinking about heading to Adelaide next week as there seems to be abit of regional work picking up there! Anyone else in Melbourne atm?
  23. I arrived 2 days ago and they didn't ask us for any, but better to be safe and have some proof
  24. Hi Kieren, we were looking at base, but opted for space which were staying there for 3 nights, then moving to habitat thats in st kilda for 7 nights. We'll be relaxing for the first few days/week, then will be looking for work, wether it be regional if possible, or any work to get some extra dollar, while we look for regional work.
