    Gold Coast Meetups

HI, I've been in Australia for 13 years now, lived in WA for 8 years and most of my friends are probably there, but I felt like I was in retirement living there and moved. I have worked FIFO for the last 7 years pretty much and it has made meeting friends on the Gold Coast really difficult. I have owned a house on the Gold Coast for 5 years nearly now, but for two of those years I was residential in Darwin and then did a year long stint in Adelaide. So I really haven't made a firm friend base! Every time I've started making friends I end up flying out somewhere again. I'm currently flying in and out of Adelaide and home Saturday & Sunday one week then Friday - Sunday the next. Once this assignment ends I am determined to stay working nearer home if it kills me Anyone in the same predicament or any new comers fancy meeting up? I'm pretty relaxed, easy going, 38 year old female, originally from Chelmsford, Essex. Happy to meet males or females, in fact I miss having male friends at home, probably why I work in a male dominated area! The Aussies don't seem to get men and women being friends the same way UK people do lol.

  5. We're a group of women who love getting together for movies, meals and a good chat over coffee. We also get out and about to concerts, theatre and events, always more fun when there's a group going. We even have activities for kids and partners. Most activities based in the Hills District or Northern Sydney. PM me for more details.
  6. Hi We moved to Sydney last week from the UK with two children 5 1/2 and 3. We are just going through the application to get a house in Birchgrove near Balmain - are there any kids clubs, playgroups, coffee mornings I should be attending in order to meet new friends and get the kids some playmates? My husband starts work tomorrow so I am keen to start integrating into Sydney life a.s.a.p. Sara
  7. We live in East Yorkshire and have seen various people on here from areas close to us. We have just started with the visa, having applied for a subclass 163 business visa. We have been told this should take 10 - 12 months. We would love to move to the suburbs around Joondalup, but are unsure as to where we will be heading exactly as yet. Schools are important to us as we have 4 children, so we are still doing our homework on this. (No pun intended!) Anyone else living near to us in Yorkshire/Lincolnshire that are heading off to Perth within the next 12 - 18 months that fancies a local meet-up before taking that life-changing flight? Thought it would be good to see if we can get a few of us to meet up over here and possibly meet up again on the other side! Tracey & Jon!!
  8. Hey Guys! There is a Glenelg (SA) meet tomorrow evening in The Watermark, Glenelg at 7pm. All are welcome, although im not sure on the policy on kids! Beers up!! Dan
  9. Hello I am 34 years old and my partner Steve is 35. We have just moved to Bondi Junction and would love to meet up with anyone in the surounding areas for a few drinks. We've been here 6 weeks and we're loving it so far but just finding it difficult to meet people. The transport is really good so we can get to anywhere on the Southern shore pretty easily so could meet up with people from surrounding areas. If you're interested, let us know and we can arrange a get together.:jiggy: Debbie
  10. Afternoon all My partner and myself (27) have been out in Perth for a couple of months sorting ourselves with jobs and accommodation etc but now it'd be good to grow the social scene. I know there was a social organised by Poms in Perth last weekend which we weren't able to go to so we wondered if there were people interested in an informal meet up on Saturday 18th June. The pub the Lucky Shag by the water front in town is nice and central. We'll be down there for some drinks and maybe a bite from around 2pm and any one who fancies joining us would be welcome.
  11. Hello - if you're new to Perth or thinking of emmigrating to Perth I run a Mum's meet-up group in Perth. We meet 2 - 4 times a week at various parks, beaches, farms, zoo's, play centres, aqua parks etc.. we also have family picnics and BBQ's at weekends, camping holidays, and even daddy days out. If you'd like to join please PM me for the details. Thanks Lorraine
  12. The Next Brisbannites Meet Up.... Hey there, With just 2 weeks until the next meet up we thought we would just send out a final reminder to everyone to have it in their diaries. Time: 1pm Place: Wynnum Esplanade Whale Water Park and Playground Date: Saturday 23rd October 2010 Quite a few people travelled over to New Farm Park from the coast for the last meet up so we thought it only fair to have the next meet up a little closer to the sea. There are bbq's there so if everyone brings a little bit of food with them just like last time we can all tuck in! We're really looking forward to it. Due to the very changeable weather at the moment (just like in the UK really!) we'll send an email nearer the time if we need to postpone. Again we'll also post this on PIO. Hope to see everyone there, Sharon & Matt Jacob & Isobel

  14. Hi there, PLEASE NOTE: CHANGE OF VENUE TO KALINGA PARK, END OF PARK AVENUE, CLAYFIELD - Time 11am Because Suttons Beach is closed we have done a last minute change of venue. We are moving it to Kalinga Park and suggest that we set up a gazebo on a grassy area near the BBQ's, once you get there you should be able to find us fairly easily, give us a call or send us a message if you can't find us. Kalinga Park Location: end of Park Avenue, Clayfield This park is brilliant! There’s a huge sandpit, a series of Aussie tree houses, a climbing wall and fun with sounds. On weekends and after school it is buzzing with children climbing, sliding and having lots of fun. The large flat area beside the playground is perfect for parents to sit down and set up a picnic, plus there are leaf shaped tables, a few shelters and free electric barbeque facilities. Kalinga Park also has a kid-size practice bikeway, a creek complete with ducks and a nearby dog off-leash area. If you live nearby, ride your bikes along the bike path that stretches from Toombul shopping centre to Grange and beyond. If you need any more info, directions etc then just PM me and I will try to help. If you've been before then you should be able to spot us fairly easily, if not then just listen out for the English accents or a tell tale Tesco shopping bag! I'll try to remember to take ours. Hope to see you there. Sharon x
  15. I posted this on another thread in the Western Australia section but thought it may be useful in here too. I'm arranging a meetup for new people arriving in Perth: Date: Sunday 30th Jan Time: 3pm onwards Location: South Perth Foreshore, Coode St end of Sir James Mitchell Park The link here should show you the location on the map - we'll meet between the boatshed restaurant and the funcats 'hut' (the centre of the picture) South Perth, Western Australia - Google Maps There are a couple of BBQs in this area so maybe people could bring some meat and salad for an early evening BBQ? We'll bring along a cricket bat, some balls, frisbee etc so feel free to add to that should you wish! Please rsvp so we know at least some people are going to turn up! We have a colourful fish windsock thingy so I'll try and put that up to identify us easily. Thanks ! Jo and Seb PS We'll def do another bbq a few weeks later so that those of you arriving early Feb can come and join us too.
  16. Sunshine Coast - Kawana Island Meetup - 20th November 2010 http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/socialising-get-togethers/99369-sunshine-coast-kawana-island-meetup-20th-november-2010-a.html#post907329 James Sunshine Coast Broker
  17. Hi All, We are having another BBQ, this time at Double Bay, Kawana Island. There are BBQ facilities, park, and a beach area for games. From 2pm, bring your food, drink and extra chairs if you have some. James Message me if you need any directions or have any questions. Sunshine Coast Broker
  18. Hey all, We've been in Brisbane just over a week now and we know of a few people and families who are already here, and several more who all coming over in August / September. So I reckon a Brisbane meet-up would be in order for all who are interested! I would like to suggest that we all meet-in in New Farm Park. It may be a bit of a way for some (it will be for us as we'll be in Chapel Hill!), but it's a great park for families. There is plenty of parking (provided you get there early), what could potentially be the best children's playground that I ever seen and public bbq's galore! I can't imagine anywhere better as it has just about everything we could need. How about we all meet up on Saturday 18 September 2010 at say 11am? All those who wish to come bring some prawns and sausages for the barbie and don't forget the coldies! The kids can run themselves silly on the playground whilst the parents gather in prayer round the barbie. If you're in favour then just shout out!
  19. Anyone fancy a meetup this Sunday afternoon in Manly? Exact location and time still to be arranged but if you are interested please get in touch!
  20. Hi, We are a family from the UK relocating and will be living in Malvern from October. It would be great to meet up with others in the City of Stonnington area, whether it be just a trip to the park, coffee and a chat in a cafe - or scouting out somewhere to watch a bit of english football and a VB or two. It will be great to make the most of the spring and summer by meeting new friends and having a social life to look forward to!
  21. Yup,daft scenario, but could you imagine a big meet up,perhaps in Sydney for the first year! Each proceeding year in another City, would we all feel we belonged to a community that is almost like a sect, and be there no matter what?Betcha it would be interesting...at least for the first few years.Would love to meet some people on here,as i feel lots of us are on the same "plane".I await the Ack Ack!
  22. Hi All Are you new to The Sunshine Coast or been here a while and want to meet new people? Join us on 11th August at "My Place cafe" in Coolum at 10am for a casual chat over coffee while you admire the view ... Let me know if you can make it Look forward to meeting you! Kama
  23. Hey Guys and Gals, Our plans for emigrating to Oz are accelerating at a quick rate of knots, and I thought that we should try and organise another North West social gathering before we depart at the end of July. We're due to exchange on our house next week and, completely unexpectedly, I now have an offer for a position in Brisbane! So, at some stage next week we'll be booking flights, temporary accommodation and shipping. Happy days! :wubclub: So...how is everyone fixed for another meet-up? Was thinking mid-June - say the 12/13th or the 19/20th. Answers on a forum post please and we'll get something organised.
  24. Hi, Is there anyone who wants to meet up for coffee, a chat and to meet new friends this week or next? I live in Robina but can drive elsewhere on the coast? Annette
