  1. Wishing I'd never read this thread now!!! Please tell me you're all lying and spiders don't hide under toilet seats . . . . .
  2. We've just paid £3400 for me, Husband and 16 year old son on a 189 visa. Had to pay when we applied (3 weeks ago) - just waiting for a CO to be assigned. Good Luck!
  3. We were told that we needed a HAP number from our CO to do medicals! I don't get how people can do theirs early without one.
  4. I love your spreadsheet!!! It's become my life and me and Vanduex are filling it in and researching every night at the moment!!! You are a superstar
  5. Hi coolbreeze. I'm Mrs Vanduex (he says hi as he tries to negotiate the M4 in the heavy rain!). Different states have different rules. He's completed all the paperwork for Queensland and there's nothing in there about PR and there are sections that overseas teachers can fill in. The Brisbane office of Smart teachers told him to fill it in and they are fully aware of where we are in the visa process. He is still going to ring them this week just to put his mind at rest. Good luck with your CO
  6. Hubby is trying to register with the Queensland college of teachers. Does anyone know what the professional references should say? He has letters from his schools confirming the dates he was employed with them and the roles he had in these schools. Do these also count as the reference or is it something totally separate?
  7. This is a marvellous post and so reassuring for people like me who are terrified that we'll get out there and end up not being able to find a place to rent or not be able to find furniture for a rental or just be living in an empty house with patio chairs and a blow up mattress for months!! (I will still worry about these things, but it's nice to know it's all in my head!). Theres some really good links too - thank you so much!!
  8. We've used an agent and he hasn't given us any cause for concern on this point. Im still going to worry about it until we've got the visas tho!
  9. I'm in a similar situation but from what I can gather, I have no need to worry. The guy's not named on the certificate and has no parental responsibility/ rights so they don't need his permission. If anyone knows otherwise, let me know!!
  10. Wowsers!!!! Thanks for all this itchy!! Really useful to have! X
  11. Lodging visa tomorrow!!! (Credit card only arrived today). Not sure if I feel excited or sick....

    Hello :)

My husbands been before but I've not!!! Everyone thinks I'm mad too, but sometimes you've got to do these things or it'll never happen! Pretty terrifying though!! We're looking at Brisbane, but a lot depends on where the teaching jobs are for him! Our 16 year old son is also totally up for it - he's actually the one that suggested we go this year. Good luck with everything! X

    Hello :)

Hi!! This site is really useful and there is a wealth of knowledge on here. It's been a huge help to us. We've just submitted our EOI and can then apply for our 189. (My husbands a teacher so he's the applicant). good luck!!
  15. No idea how to upload things like that!! Anyone got any ideas??
  16. That's a really useful link - thanks!
  17. Hi Kooky - did you ever make the spreadsheet? I'm going to start making one for our move (I'm Vanduex's wife) and something to look at as a starting point would be so useful!
  18. I'm in a similar situation, except my mum flatly refuses to address or discuss us moving!!! Since we told my parents we were thinking of leaving in 2014, not 2016 as the plan was before, my mum has refused to discuss us moving to Australia with anyone. To start with she said that we were ruining my sons future by moving him straight after his GCSEs. She said she wouldn't fly that far (her best friend has just moved to India, so she could incorporate a big holiday involving us both). Since then, she has said nothing about it to anyone as it upsets her. It's been nearly four months and she still refuses to discuss our move with us, with her friends or with the rest of the family. We're now at the stage where she will talk to us as long as the topic of Australia doesn't come up. The way things are, I can honestly see us getting on a plane with her still refusing to speak to us about it. Even my dad, who is very sad we are going but understands why, can't see her coming round. It's taken the shine off of it all a bit, but I wont let her get to me. We were very close before this but now I feel like I cant tell her much at all. My husband's family is being great and so is my dad - he has said of course him and my mum will visit. All the way through school, my parents told me to be an individual and to not let anything stand in my way. It's a shame that mum is now trying to stand in my way, but I've got to be selfish or I wont do anything. Be strong. I live in the hope my mum will come round. If she doesn't I'm still going. Otherwise I'll regret it.
  19. Sorry, I've updated my question. He is from a previous relationship of mine - and it's not my visa we're going on.
  20. Hi Can anyone clarify the position with moving out to Australia on a 189 Visa with family. My husband is applying for the visa (he's a teacher) with me and my son as the additional family members. On the Australian Government website it says the following: 'You must prove that a dependent child is: your child, or a stepchild from a previous relationship.' My husband has never adopted my son and he is a stepchild from a previous relationship of mine - and it's not my visa we're going on. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm a bit worried now that we're going to have a problem!
  21. This place looks great!! We're only at the stage of waiting for our AITSL to come back, but have bookmarked this school for when we get to Australia - our son already studies Mandarin and is predicted to GCSE grades for Maths and Physics. Sounds great!!
  22. Its always been on the cards that we were going to move to Australia but since we broke it to my family that we were planning on going in a year, my mum refuses to speak to anyone about it. Its a taboo subject - she flatly refuses to discuss it, even though she knows it is happening. My dad has tried but she says that if she doesnt talk about it she wont get upset. Consequently, I get to hear all the excitement of my sisters house move (she's moving 5 mins away from her current house) but nothing about our move to the other side of the world. My friends cry when we talk about it. Since we've announced we were doing it, I have had mainly negative comments, but we are still going anyway - we'll always regret it if we dont go. Fortunately, my husbands family are excited about it all and are saving up already to come and visit!!
