  1. So we've got the visa. The flights are booked. The Movecube is packed and on its way to Australia. We've got a place to live sorted in Melbourne. The mister has a job waiting for him. We leave in 7.5 weeks. Of the whole process Its this bit that I'm finding the hardest. This wait. Waiting for D day, now that everything is sorted it's almost painful haha! Time seems to be passing so slowly. It's like waiting for Christmas when you're a kid :biglaugh: Those of you that have made the move, did you do anything to make the time go faster? How did you get yourselves through the last couple of weeks? Are any of you who are due to depart feeling the same?
  2. We are aiming for mid October, already had the shippers organised, a house in melb and a job for the hubby sorted so we would go sooner! Tomorrow even! But we are waiting around for the dog to be able to travel. We can't leave him behind
  3. So happy right now! We got our visa granted yesterday. 8 months and 3 days wait. For anyone who had SV and got swapped to AW I wouldn't worry about it, we had the same thing. Yay! Melbourne here we come :cute:
  4. What would your policy be? If you were in the driving seat making these decisions in government what would you decide? You mentioned above actions which you don't agree with, but how would you do it differently? And how would it work? Is there a solution that ticks all the boxes? How would you deal with people coming In illegally on boats? Where would you put them in their thousands while you processed their claim for asylum? And after said claim has been processed where are they all going to go? Where will they live? How will they support themselves? How will they intergrate into the community? What schools will their children go to? Where will they receive medical care? Where is the money going to come from if not from the pockets of Australians who have worked hard to make a go of it for their own families. id really like to know what you think the solution would be? I would like to point out also that the UK doesn't have an open border policy, but the EU and the UN pretty much see to it that most people get in. When they do it's not all softly softly nicey nicey, many have a very hard time integrating into society, for various reasons. They often get taken advantage of in cash in hand jobs which they have to take because theres pretty well no other jobs for them even if they are qualified. All that aside they get the full support of the state in housing, education, the nhs and monetary funding. Where does it all come from? Well there is no where else for it to come from than from the existing resources pool, when that starts running low? Well just put up taxes to pay for it. I suspect it would be the same in Australia no? Unless there is some secret empty city out in the bush ready to take all these people. With houses, schools, hospitals and huge stacks of cash just waiting to take them all in.
  5. It's good to see I'm not alone in actually being a fan of Australia's immigration policy? Being a resident of the UK for the past 30 years I have seen first hand the damage that a liberal border control policy can have. I would hate to see Australia go down the shitter the same way the Uk has. (Now before anyone says it, yes! I am aware that there more reasons behind the decline in the UK than just our immigration policy but I do believe that our loose borders have strained our already weak infrastructure to near breaking point.) A couple of questions for all those in support of letting in the "asylum seekers" into Australia... Where are they all going to go? Where will they live? How will they support themselves? How will they intergrate into the community? What schools will their children go to? Where will they receive medical care? How much will it cost the government and then the citizens of Australia to house these tens of thousands "asylum seekers". Where is that money going to come from? With increasing population numbers across the globe and an ongoing economic crisis I am in full favor of tight border restrictions in Australia.
  6. Hi everyone. I got an email today saying that my case officer for my 309/100 application has been changed from VS to AW. Has this happened to anyone before? Does anyone else on here have VS and have you been allocated a new case officer also? We are just a couple of days before the 8 month mark on our wait, I would hate for this to lengthen the wait time.
  7. I was just having a read on Bob In Oz, and I came across this piece of information regarding the new 10 day quarantine I cant believe that as well as increasing the cost of quarantine significantly they are also changing the visitation and exercise rules. This makes me very sad and it makes something which is already very hard to think about (im dreading shipping my little one) even harder to contemplate.
  8. Thats wonderful news! Congratulations
  9. Thank you for your replies. My husband says thank you also. Its comforting to know that we should be able to ship them with the rest of our stuff. We were thinking we'd have to try and take them on the plane with us ha! srg73 thats quite a collection you have! All the care you will have to put in will take some time. What kind of stuff do you collect? If its all a similar kind of genre do you think that might make it look more like a personal collection rather than stock for a shop or something?
  10. Is it safe to pack vinyl records in a shipping container/ MoveCube? Or should they be posted with Airmail? We have a couple of hundred records to get from the UK to Oz. My husband has concerns overthe temperature change with shipping, and that it might warp the records.
  11. My little dog has failed his rabies blood test, after having two rabies shots one month apart. I have heard that some dogs can fail after only having one jab and thats why the vet recommended he have the two. She said he should have no problems. I really wasn't expecting this. They have said to give him another shot, but after the two he has had already his result is at 0.15 and it needs to be at least 0.5. We were planning on, once we had received his bloods back, applying with a pet shipping company and getting him scheduled to leave around the 23rd Sept, with us following him on on the 30th. The situation is made more complicated by the fact that my husbands current visa to be in the UK runs out on the 4th Oct, so we (or at least he) would need to be out of here by then. If I get him vaccinated as soon as possible the earliest he (the dog) would be able to leave the UK would be the 12th Oct. I just dont know what to do, I cant face leaving him behind and im terrified that he will fail his bloods again. Has anyone else had this problem? I have been searching google for the last hour for answers but I am not finding any.
  12. I still can not see any results on the emedical site. Should I be worried? Also im thinking I might be checking the wrong site? https://www.emedical.immi.gov.au/eMedUI/eMedicalClient is what ive been checking. It just says Generate information sheet at the top of the page. Am I stressing over nothing?
  13. Waiting for the visa grant seems like an eternity, I'm not even half way through yet... Sigh! To fill all that time, as well as working and saving, clearing out a lifetimes worth of junk and making endless mental packing lists, I've been trying to watch as much Tv and films as I can which are either Australian films/ tv shows or are set there. Ive been reading 'Down Under' by Bill Bryson as well which is excellent. Does anyone else do this? Does anyone have any good recommendations? My favorites are below: Films Two hands Muriel's wedding The castle Candy TV Underbelly Border security Poms in paradise Wanted down under (revisited) Bondi vet Mrs Biggs Books Down Under by Bill Bryson

RE: certifying documents, you can get them certified at the post office, i think it costs around £8 per three documents. http://www.postoffice.co.uk/document-certification-service thats how I got all my docs certified and I didnt have any trouble.
  15. micman I see we have the same case officer!
  16. Thanks guys, you have helped settle my nerves somewhat. This whole process is so long and nerve wracking. Tina0101 its interesting that you said you were ok because all your tattoos were done in the UK and so you didnt need a test, mine all were done here too. The lady that was testing me said it was because i have more than one limb completely covered so you know what... fair enough. I didnt mind. Ive worked in the tattoo industry I know there are dodgy unscrupulous people out there (not that I ever got tattooed by any of them ha!) so I can understand why they would want to check.
  17. So I had my medical this Tuesday 4th and i got my blood results through the following day. All clear. Im just wondering how long it takes for the results to show on the eMedical site? How long does it usually take before they are submitted to immigration? It would appear that im still waiting on my chest X-ray results. Just thought id mention this as well but I had to pay extra to get hep b and c tests done because I have lots of tattoos. Has anyone else had to do this?
  18. So as I'm sure a lot of you guys are doing/ have done, I'm passing the time between visa application and visa grant by researching every possible aspect of the move in minute detail. This weeks research is focussing mainly around shipping and packing. We have already decided to go with the move cube, but now I'm looking at the best way to pack it, how I can fit the most stuff in there. i stumbled across these: http://www.containerstore.com/shop/closet/underbedStorage?productId=10034575 They look pretty good, what do you guys think? Is there any kind of problem with vacuum packing items? So far as customs at the other end are concerned? Or with conditions on the journey? What at is the best way to pack for a shipping container?
