  1. Check the Office of Energy website. They will list registered gas fitters.
  2. I came from the railway in UK, some 9 years ago. I was a fitter at a train care facility back in the UK. I registered with a number of agencies when I landed and had a job within 48hrs. I stayed there for 4 weeks, pulled the pin and never went back to the rail industry. Transperth run the trains in Perth and a number of the big mining companies have private rail lines up north around the mine sites. They are looking at building a light rail system around Perth at the moment, it's election year and both parties have been unveiling their plans. A few years back they extended the railway south down to Mandurah, and as the northern suburbs expand the railway is expanded.
  3. Have tried a line of credit type home loan? I have one with Macquarie . My monthly wage is paid direct into my mortgage and I live off the credit card during the month, at the end of the month the balance is cleared by the mortgage account. The account also comes with a cash card, so you can withdraw money from an ATM or make an eftpos direct from your mortgage. There is no minimum amount.
  4. HBF have been good to me, but then for $300/month, I should bloody hope so. Whether it's teeth, eyes or any other part of your anatomy, you need private health insurance. BUPA have sprung up over the last year, so if you're covered by them in Blighty, you may be able to transfer your policy.
  5. Had one put in when we moved in. Novelty wore off in a few years, you need an 'O' level in alchemy to balance the bloody chemicals and try walking out of a pool shop without being stipped of 100 bucks! Let it go "green" over winter one year, bloody nightmare to clean up. I have a pool blanket to help stop evaporation, in the summer it turns the pool into a huge bath tub, not really refreshing at all. If I knew then what I knew now, I would've saved my money and bought a spa.
  6. Moved here with family over 9 years ago, no real regrets. Went backwards financially about 10 years, but it's not about the money!
  7. As _shel said, you need to be able to back up any skills you have with some form of recognized training, eg trade college and/or apprenticeship.
  8. I'd bring all your gear except tanks. Tanks over here have an imperial neck thread and valves are fitted with burst disc's. During the summer the water will be around the 23C mark. Here's some footage I shot of the Lena, I was out with Ocky's Underwater World. I had the camera strapped to my head! [video=youtube_share;CiytVfEsDBU]
  9. You go from Bunbury to dive the LENA, a purpose sunk wreck. It was an old toothfish fishing vessel that was caught illegally fishing in Australian waters. They confiscated and sunk it as a dive attraction. Busselton is just down the road, you can get out and dive HMAS Swan from there. There are a couple of dive shops in Bunbury, Ockys Underwater World and Coastal Water Divers. Both good.

    I don't know what an AQF3 is.
  11. "Bunvegas", quiet little place, only been there to go out diving or pass through it when heading further south.
  12. Saw Hugh Cornwall at the Charles Hotel a year or 2 ago. Great night. I'll keep an eye out for killing joke.
  13. Last year, one of our cats, had both ears removed because of skin cancer . Looks like a Teddy bear now.
  14. In short, yes. May prove tricky if you're using his skill base to gain a visa.
  15. Further to my first post, we had a few bits shipped over, can't for the life of me remember the name of the company, it was over 9 years ago. One thing is be wary of the Australian Customs. They will check your stuff and are a bit handy with the stanley knife. My wife shipped her PA equipment over, speakers, mixing desk etc. When customs opened the box with the mixing desk in it they slashed right through to the vinyl and ruined the case. They also wanted to charge her and arm and a leg to fumigate some riding equipment, she told them to bin it, as it would be cheaper to buy new!
  16. When we moved over, we rehoused our West Highland White, he was 9 years old. We used a society called Westie Rescue, they were really great and he went to a good home. The reason for leaving him in the UK was the stress of moving on him and the climate change. Another thing to bear in mind is the ability to find rental accommodation that will accept pets.
  17. When I emigrated, I flew out with Emirates and we were given double baggage allowance as we were emigrating and had bought a one way ticket. I also got an extra 10kg for sports equipment (dive gear)

I had the forms sent to me by the company who was handling my visa application, Global Visa's (I believe they are getting some bad press!)
  21. Quick intro, I'm a sparky who's lived here in WA for over 9 years and holds a WA "A" grade license, Contractors license and Open data license. I don't believe dual citizenship will have any bearing on getting a license. When I started on the road to emigration, I had to get my trade recognised by TRA, once completed they would only send the cert to an Australian address, which is where your friend might come in handy. Once I had the TRA cert (Electrical Mechanic), I had the option of doing a 5hr practical exam and then a multi-choice rules and regs exam, or night school for 3 months. I did the former. The Office of Energy will be your best source of info, as it is they they issue your license. The last bulletin, I got from them stated something along the lines of having to serve approx 1 year with an Australian company to get experience, before issuing a license. Here's a link they may help. http://www.innovation.gov.au/Skills/SkillsAssessment/TradesRecognitionAustralia/AustralianRecognisedTradeCertificate/Pages/default.aspx
